You're dancing with the devil going under that heavy machine without jack stands. I know a guy who knew a guy who had to pay with his life for this very same mistake. Always safety first, especially with a heavy truck like that.

Thank you. I understand now. Funny how having a kid changes the way you think about life.

Great video, but ALWAYS use jack stands when reaching under a vehicule !

Yeah I know better. Things I do are not smart and after a close call I will never be doing that again. Will only reach under to put a jackstand under a vehicle.

Perfect . I am very impressed with the way of working and explaining. Following your way of explaining, I think I would venture to do it. Not yet, but maybe soon. Thank you once again.

For the love of God put a damn jack stand under there or at least lay the tire back under there.

Nice video. Honestly watched it to get a time frame. I will also be replacing my hub assemblies in addition to your project. I’m in Az and my cv boot is blown out like my ex wife and needs immediate replacement. Glad I won’t be sweating my ass off for 3-4 hours.
You made it look super simple. I’m not going to tell you to use a jack stand since you’ve already been crucified.
Thank you for the informative video my man

Haha thanks man. Just did the driver side last weekend. Only new advice I would give would be to get a 1 3/8” wrench (one and 3/8”) and use that to pry on the cv joint while beating it out with a big old hammer. There are clips that hold them on and they are inside the splines which make taking the cv joints out a pain in the ass. Is what I did was, take the big wrench, put it on the cv joint and then use a ratchet strap on the end of the wrench to the opposite side of the truck and snug it up nice and tight. Then go to town smacking the joint and turn it every 10 smacks or so. It will come out slowly but keep hitting it and it will come. Sorry for the book but just giving my .02 again.

Thanks a bunch man you made it look alot easier than what I thought. I've been overwhelmed thinking about doing it and now I have a lot more confidence that I can thank you!

Glad I could help! The hardest part was getting the cv axle off. If you come to a place where it won’t move due to the clips holding it on, take a 1 3/8” wrench to the cv joint and use a ratchet strap on the bottom of the wrench to pry on it while banging it with a hammer. The drivers side was 100x harder when I did it earlier this summer. It’s hard to explained what I mean but once under the truck you will understand.

You really should torque those bolts down to the factory spec for safety sake. Other than that good job, you made it look easy.👍 A second thumbs up.

Thanks for your helpful video. I read the service manual (shopkey pro) and it said that don’t recommend replacing the lower ball joint, should replace the aluminum lower control arm and ball joint. Is good if only replace the ball joint? Thank you!

    • @BackyardGarage1
      @BackyardGarage1  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I would replace the whole thing. La lot easier

Do you have a part number for that ball joint? I've searched google but can't find it. I can only get prices for the entire lower control arm assembly. I have to replace the right hand side.

I do not. I got the whole assembly. Might wanna call the dealership

The c press that you use is the 9 inch or 6inch? I had to do my ram ball joint also, and i want to buy the right one.
    Great video also.

I am not sure to be honest. I rented it from my local oreillys auto.

I want to say a 9 inch though.

CV axle IS a drive-shaft. The thing that made me cringe (not trying to criticize you, but you should throw a jack stand under your work in addition to just a tippy jack) for your own safety. Comments for the peanut-gallery for whatever it's worth. Thanks for making the video.

I 100% agree with you. I knew better and know better. Pure laziness. It can get me killed. It’s amazing how having a kid now changes the way i think about safety and making sure I’ll be around for them in the future.
