    they should sell ocean blue or green tarps instead of black. it will give the water a nicer and more inviting look!

    • @Joshua79C
      @Joshua79C 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ask about whether a white or black/green plastic tank is better, you will find the white tank is an algae farm, black is a good passive heating system to warm the water along with a medium to dark green or even blue also help keep algae at bay along with the plants providing natural algae killing oxygen into the water as well

    Two Men in Fort Worth Texas built a spring fed public pool of 1 main gallon capacity in 1951, it had sand well fluidized bed filtration and was crystal clear, but the concrete didn't last after many repairs and a few owners it fell into disrepair after a drowning in 1981

    For people who like to swim in natural clean water but don't like plants or animals when swimming, there are ways to create a Natural Living Pool that looks like a normal swimming pool.
    This type of Natural Swimming Pool is also perfect if you want to have a modern styled garden.

    But ! Warning .... I am a snake !
    And I love to hang out around your garden most days. Im pretty well hidden even though I do like to go swimming sometimes. I'm not sure if I real venomous. But I will bite if you get in my way to harm me.
    Thanks for the lovely garden water the snake says I'm happy.

    Larger species of fresh water clams (never use zebra mussels) will filter additional microbes out of the water specifically things like algae. Enough vegetation should limit excessive algae growth through nutrient depletion.

    • @jameslandon4126

      That is not the right environment for clams.

      The plants provide oxygen which is what keeps algae at bay, ever seen a pond using those floating fountains? those fountains are helping oxygenate and thus reduce to the point of elimination of algae. The plants are doing the oxygenation and filtration of certain other biologicals that are not harmful to you but to keep it in check.

    • @V0YAG3R
      @V0YAG3R 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kirk Lazarus Nutrients provided by what or whom? You're a dolt! Those plants would die in less than a week, unless you you start filling that nasty swamp with enough fishes to support an ecosystem that doesn't exist in the first place 👌🏻

    Won't the wood rot over time? And what about mosquitoes and such? I know the water isn't stagnate but still it would be considered a pond no?

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, but the integrity of the wood will be maintained for years and years, and if you're that worried, the lining can tear, the cement and mortar can crack, etc. etc.
      And mosquitos require stagnant water to breed, which is why the problem exists. This body of water is circulating. Mosquitos won't be a huge problem.
      Plus mosquitos don't live everywhere, so where this guy lives is also a factor.

    • @clsherian
      @clsherian 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      larsonny77 wood will not rot if it stays submerged.

    • @RepublicofTX
      @RepublicofTX 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      larsonny77 wood needs oxygen to rot, so if submerged then you're fine. You realize Venice, Italy was built on a wooden beam foundation right? You know how old that city is? It'll be fine.

    • @ertfgghhhh
      @ertfgghhhh 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What about the frogs?

    • @Joshua79C
      @Joshua79C 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Republic of Texas, actually Italy uses Piles it sit on, not just beams, and only sinking due to the wood deteriorating due to the movement of the buildings and people walking rhythm, woods does not live forever underwater where aquatic wood borers persist and is only 'sinking' due to tides thus why they have built those barriers to protect it sometime into the future.
      They really should look at replacing those piles with carbon/dyneema/fiberglass/kevlar composite piles as they are impervious to rust unlike steel, wood borers and rot like wood, or washout and rust deterioration like reinforced concrete. But that would be a vast and very highly costly operation

    Looks like a flooded backyard... I don't understand why this is somehow better than a regular pool. It certainly wasn't any cheaper... Is it because it doesn't have a filter? Who wants to swim in unfiltered water... and fight mosquitos. You could have just dug a pond for 1/3rd less money, and been swimming in the same dirty water...
    And the only thing "organic" about it, is the plants growing around the edge... seems like a silly waste.

    • @sophi-vive
      @sophi-vive 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      RIPPER334 the plants do the filtering

    • @youknowmetoowell1516
      @youknowmetoowell1516 7 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      David Ayers do they kill bacteria and parasites?

    • @RIPPER334
      @RIPPER334 7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      David Ayers No... no.
      While some plants CAN absorb (and adsorb) SOME bacteria, and even a few heavy metals, these are typically leached fairly quickly back into the water colum. So using the term "filter" would be extremely loose in this example.
      Mostly what aquatic plants WILL do, is take excess nutrients from the water (even then, only what they need to grow), and as a result of this nutrient reduction, algae is starved... and you have clearer "looking" water. Again... using that term loosely.
      Plants won't do anything for parasites... they've never stopped a case of dysentery or foot rot... and the money you save on pool filter sand, you'll quickly spend on mosquito spray!
      Basically, unless you are a fish benefiting from a balanced nitrogen cycle, and the added oxygen in the water, plants aren't doing much for funky, mostly stagnant water... (which this will become without proper stratification)... especially in the few numbers planted around this flooded backyard.
      This is just another go-green money grab...

    And the final step is a fence to protect your baby.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 10 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      If your child is that small, you should be keeping an eye on them anyways, and making sure they're always somewhere safe.
      Fences don't exist to remedy parental negligence.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      ***** I'm aware. It's still moronic, however. It isn't the place of the government to make the real world into a safety blanket for stupid and irresponsible people.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      ***** Exactly.
      Again, it's not the place of the government to make some people suffer to make the world a safety blanket for idiots and the irresponsible.

    • @3887douglas
      @3887douglas 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I totally agree! There's never been a child worth $7,000! And ALL drownings only happen to stupid, incompetent parents. Besides, a pool just looks better with a poor, dead baby floating in it.
      IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD A FENCE, YOU CAN'T AFFORD A POOL. DROWNINGS KILL MORE CHILDREN IN FLORIDA THAN CARS, GUNS AND POISONS COMBINED.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      3887douglas
      Don't try to blame others because of your failure to look after your children. You neglected the child, leading to their death. The people with the pool are innocents, in fact, they're victims. They now have to go the rest of their lives knowing a child drowned in their pool, and that's all because you just weren't good enough.
      Your weakness and neglect killed a child and likely traumatized other human beings. What if the family with a pool had a kid, and that kid was the one who found your drowned child?
      Don't try to displace blame. The world shouldn't have to safeguard itself for your child, you should safeguard your child until they're capable of managing their own safety.

    A question please, i wnt to dig a pond of 60.000 liters. I was not planning to use cincrete or walls in concrete cellblocks. I was planning to dig a hole the walls will be dugged declined so not straight down, then put the protectclorh and liner in done ( to put it simple).. Is this possible. Wull the pressure of the water hold the walls standing? Thanks in advance Guy- Louis

    Dave - I noticed the airlift doesn't have a 5 foot down-pipe to generate the lift. Is it not required here??

    What keeps the the sloped part from eventually sliding down under the liner and leveling out at the bottom???

      I think the weight of the water will hold it in place.

      the wood has stainless steel rods holding it in place and the rods extend into the concrete blocks it sits on, they showed that part briefly and I saw it unlike you clearly did not

    Hi, are the air lift pumps plumbing/inlet below the gravel by the regeneration zone?, and blocked off from the gravel but big enough compartment to push the water back up into main swim area?

    David, would you have any insights to share on whether or not something similar could be realized in a more Southern Mediterranean setting... On a Greek Island such as Crete for example? I was wondering for instance about whether or not their indigenous aquatic flora would perform the same in terms of filtration capabilities

    "DIY" with the help of some professional, haha! I don't think that's very DIY. Interesting to watch nonetheless.

    I love the manual - thank you very much indeed! But why is the pool so short?! So much time and money invested and all that into a pool where you can't swim?

    How big a pump do you need to circulate the water?

    Does the perforated circulation pipe under the gravel have end cap on or is it just left ? And are there two separate ones or do they join together?

    isn't an organic pool just a man made pond?

    • @Joshua79C
      @Joshua79C 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its organic in that the plants while they remove some biology stuff they provide oxygen and the limestone gravel along with charcoal filter also maintain health and clarity are all ORGANIC, so is the wood sleeper wall clearly seen, oh and if this is a pond, then I guess an olympic pool is still a pool even if it is built into a natural one.
