Ohio Street Freak: 1969 Chevrolet Nova - The House Of Muscle Ep. 4

  • There is always that one experience for every budding car enthusiast that leaves an impression. For Mike Cosculluela, that experience happened more than 40 years ago when he was a paperboy in rural Ohio. First there was the sound, then the black paint, and then, of course, the five-spoke Cragar S/S wheels. It was a Chevrolet Nova, and from the moment he saw it, Mike knew there would be one in his future.

back in 1985 when I was eight years old I remember seeing my first muscle car. they were parked in backyards and garages. they look like they were stuck in time. the cars belong to the young man who went to Vietnam and never came home. it was so sad to see these car sit there idle they look like a dog waiting for the owner to come home. a memory I will never forget God bless our veterans.

upsidedownorangejuice really is true. i drive a junky 72 beetle and junky 68 impala, and someday my junky 78 bronco will be back on the road. all the time people come up to me to ask about them. tell me how they use to have one... maybe they'll get another one... something about reminiscing about the good ole days, makes us feel good. just the other day i came out of lowes and a 70 nova parked 2 spots away from my impala at the way back of lot, and i was like that dude respects my car, my junky car fresh out of the desert. and i respect his car.

Mike is a cool guy and has some awesome Novas. I see him driving all of them all the time. I am honestly blown away that his green nova didn't make a appearance... It's by far my favorite from his collection. I am also not surprised that he made it on this show. His builds are always immaculate. But what I love best, not a single one of them doesn't get driven.

What a shock to see this!
To the guy that built this car: I saw you/the car last winter/spring at the Kroger parking lot in Englewood. At the time I was staying in the car with my 1 year old boy who was sleeping, while my wife was in getting groceries. I sat there looking at the car in the parking lot, appreciating all the little nuances of it, pondering why exactly the car was there, and what the history/story was. I saw you come out, load your couple groceries in the trunk, fire it up and drive off. Clearly, I wanted to get out and come at least give you a thumbs up and/or introduce myself, but obviously couldn't with my son asleep in the car. I vividly remember how unique the car was, and appreciated seeing it out in the "wild". It put a smile on my face that day, as I'd have to think it would for anybody that appreciates hot rods! If you happen to see this, and if you'd like to- contact me through youtube, I'd love to connect, BS about cars, etc. I'm not far at all from your neck of the woods, and know all those roads this was filmed on. Heck I can even remember being right in that area as a kid in the early 90's in the back of my uncles old 69 Z28 with a 427!
Based on the impression this video gives, I think we may share a lot of the same motivations in working on and building hot rods. If it isn't for bringing something positive into people's lives and inspiring positive actions, memories, etc, then what is it for?!
Have a good one, and thanks for keeping those cars out on the road where they belong!
    -Mark

Yes I have a 69' chevelle (Malibu) far from original now though. It originally was blue with white vinyl top, 307/auto. I paid $200 USD for it in very poor shape two years ago. It had no engine/trans, and rusted badly. Iv sense built and installed a 400 sbc, th350, has 12 bolt rear. Replaced rear 1/4'rs, still need to replace trunk floor and drops. I still havnt been able to drive it sense I bought it.

Much love for the passion and these cars... personally these Nova's hit close to home, as one day I hope to own one in memory of my father. No matter the style,no matter the car. true car guys understand the love and passion that goes into every build. who cares what you can go buy from the dealership brand new today, you will never have that feeling in your heart and soul of turning the wrenches and building your own beast. I'm just a 20yr man from Mississippi with a dream and the passion for all builds no matter the style. House Of Muscle deserves much respect for covering these cars and builds that others may pass up.

Reminds me of my white 66 Chevy 2 that was jacked up like this with shackle bars and slotted aluminum wheels, or my first 68 Camaro, black, SS hood, Cragar big and littles like this, 408 big block, 4speed light flywheel, 5.14 12 bolt with a spool, slapper bars, and a gold Moroso aluminum rear end cover. just so you know this brought me to tears. im 53 im from brooklyn ny but now live in florida. this story reminds me of my first car experience back in 1976 i was 12 and one of the older guys from the neighborhood built this one car that i could never get out of my mind to this day i have dreams about the car and it sitting there on the corner of ditmas ave and east 3rd street in all its heavenly glory. it was a jet black 1970 charger with a very simular rake to this nove its had huge 50 series tires out back with skinnies up front it had a orange see through hood scoop the sat about six inches up top the hood showing all the Chrome down beneath sparkling of off that 440 down under inside black hight back bucks with a three speed slapstick automatic man that day that car had never left my heart. now im retired and not doing much of anything that is until this until right now this very moment im going to set out to build that car the black beauty the one in my dreans that sat at that intersection not only in brooklyn but in my heart. now i never did the mini van thing in fack i drive the srt8 challenger and now i think i know why. thanks guys for this i feel invigorated something to look forward to ill keep ya posted the hunt is on!!!

Mike, I am sure that you won't read this, but I really have to input for this episode.
I've watched every episode of "Big Muscle" and "Roadkill", but of all of them, this was it.
The idea you are capturing here in this episode is the reason I became a car guy. It's the reason at the age of 22 I have had 11 cars, 2 of them being '70's K5 Chevys. The excerpts you have of Mike Cosculluela and what he said about his dad and his connections to Novas really hit home. I have a picture from '87 of a 1978 Chevy K10 my dad built that one a local car show 3 years straight that I am dedicating my 1978 K5 build to. Props to this guy, this channel, and everyone of you dudes and chicks that read this comment, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. This episode wholly envelops the idea of being a car guy. Ride on friends, and support your local Navy sailor if you get the chance.

this guy gets everything about owning and building a classic car....the hanging out with granddad..dad..brothers..and his closest childhood buddies..can't put a price on any of that..he's definitely passed all this on to his own kids...

That was cool as it gets!! I even got a little misty when he started talking about his Dad.......my Dad bought me my first car in 1974 when I was a junior in High School. 1968 Chevelle SS396, 4-speed. Flames, big hood scoop, Cordovan Maroon paint, black interior, roller tachometer......owned it until 1990 when my first Daughter was born. I think it's still in Colorado somewhere up in the mountains. Sure wish I had it back, still have the original hood for it with the big hood scoop on it!

I drove a 69 Maverick from Indianapolis to Seattle and had zero problems. Engine's run better at longer distances because you're bringing the engine up to its optimal temperature and burning out all of the impurities. I had a blast

I remember when you would see cars like this and at that time (i was like 10) they were driven year round. They would have Craters or. Fenton or E.T.slots or Keystone Classics. Anyway, they would put steel rims with snowtires on them and the cool wheels stayed on the front. Of course the rust would be on the S/S's and Keystones by spring. But that is how it was.

This has quickly become a favorite show on YT. Not a huge fan of the style of this car but goddamn do I love this one, the man made exactly what he wanted and it's a driver.

Wise words from an obviously nice guy who built his car for exactly the right reasons. I only hope my son has such high regard for me when he's grown and from a fathers point of view, I'd be proud if my son turned out a little bit like him. Peace
