I have built hundreds of engines, Cummins , Cat , Detroit, over the last 45 years in the trade, it's great to see two old school craftsmen working with their hands, no nitrile gloves needed ! Clean work and great attention to detail.
Back in 1986 I drove a tryaxel it was a Detroit with two turbos feeding a huge blower with a 15 speed and two speed rears and did it ever work loved that truck
My compliments. I understand that you folks are really recognized in the Florida Marine and fishing industry as the go to place for boat diesel power. Bill
This is my first time watching your videos and it is the best I’ve seen so far. The detail and illustrations are incredible detailed. I would love to work in this place. I plan on binge watching part one and the rest of the series. Thanks for a great job!
I have one question. Although they don't build 2 cycle Detroit Diesel engines anymore for commercial use, do they still make parts for them or was this parts that sat for a long time?
I watched some more. Appears fitted l/h cam into r/h but with correct gear on first attempt? Then cuts to correct cam installed. Please prove me wrong. Bashing an 8V71 cam in with any hammer is a big no. No advise on location of cam bearing retainer clips. On top or underneath? And why?
watch when they do the cam follower retainers... umm not on that side ! For others out there cool video but please have the 1200 page DD rebuild manual if you are doing this on an engine.
I stopped watching after tech failed to correctly set cam follower to retainer gap with feeler gauges. Based on this, I’m sure there are other mistakes. I would not buy this engine

Assembling 12v71 détroit dièse long block
Why didn't they use assembly lube on the rod bearings?

First step: The technician tells the customer " I don't work on antique junk. Bring me a modern engine so we can begin".
Dumt!

Why must a dropped bolt be replaced?

This was used in a marine application
Cool channel colleagues, bravo
