You can only go down to that area off the side of the beginning of Boletaria if you have white tendency in Boletaria, which is very difficult to get until you reach close to endgame. White tendency unlocks locked/blocked areas in each archstone. Dying in human form in an archstone area takes you towards black tendency. Thats what all the bloodstains up high in the Nexus are - people getting themselves back to spirit form by jumping off the stairs. Its a bit of a pain in the butt.
The mudmen are super vulnerable to sword thrusts.
The hardest part of this game is the runs to the shortcuts. Once you have the shortcuts the runs are not too bad. Just dont die before you reach the next shortcut! Thats what makes this game gruelling.
I always cheese the armour spider, 'cos its annoying.
The first areas of each archstone are not harder then the others. Theyre just different (obviously). The archstones dont increase in difficulty from left to right. They increase in difficulty as you go deeper into them (so youve only been in the easy bits! yay!) If you get irritated by one area, go to a different one. I recommend going to the archstone of the shadowmen before knocking off the spider. Take some arrows. You wont need them necessarily but they have their uses. The shadowmen archstone is my favourite, followed by the Tower Queen's archstone. I suspect you will LOVE the Tower (and Im not being sarcastic).
Nah because hearing you say Lvl 1 run is more fun than DeS is so valid but don't forget you're in the OG and it is TOUGH but I know you being one of the best souls players I've ever seen will come back and tear asssssssshhhh baby!!!! That spider is TOAST next time 🔥✨🤘😈

I know it can be a source of frustration for some, but personally I like that you can't rely on just one weapon to get through the game. Different enemies have resistances to piercing versus slashing, etc. Part of the fun for me is figuring it out. I also played this game when it first came out, so maybe I'm just used to its play-style as compared to the other souls games. I will give one tip: maybe play in offline mode and look out for dev messages. There is a dev message at the start of Stonefang Tunnel that gives a hint about weapon damage. Good luck and happy demon hunting! (at least until ER's DLC)
For me personally, demon's souls only becomes incredibly difficult with new game plus. Every small enemy will destroy you in just a few hits. In contrast, new game plus is child's play in the other Souls games.

@23:57 With thrusting weapons (like the spear) you can block and light-attack simultaneously. So that you do not lower your shield to light-attack. That way you can attack enemies like dogs without risking getting hit. Your attack is getting interrupted here because you're using the heavy attack which lowers your shield for the attack.
Blocking and light-attacking simultaneously is safer but uses more stamina than light-attacks without blocking.
The same game mechanic exists for thrusting weapons in Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
In that kitchen, the miners forge sandwiches.
Shield and spear was my first strategy in Dark Souls 1, the very first of these games I played. One good thing about spears is that you can use them while you are holding BLOCK. Then I found Claymore and that became the one to go, but I still used an assortment of weapons: hand axe, Zwei, Avelyn, pyromancy hand, morning star, and that's something I like, to try different weapons against different enemies, or in different environments (zwei or slaymore in narrow corridors are not too hot). But I can see why a game that almost forces you to switch between weapons can be annoying to some if not most players. A little bit of a puzzle to solve just to find which weapon to use.
One of the messages on the floor just before the boss had a helpful tip, wink wink :)
If you get stuck or frustrated with this boss you can always try the other arch stones. I'm not saying those other areas are any easier but you may find better equipment. You might also get enough souls to level up a few times before coming back to this boss. Good luck.
You will drop your souls on the last 'stable-ground' spot you were at a few seconds before you died. Areas of the map that shift or move like elevators and lifts do not count as 'Stable Ground'. So if you fall off a cliff and die, or even if you fall off a cliff and survive, but die within the first second or two of landing, then your souls should be at the top of the cliff before you fell off.
I played demons souls around the time it came out for ps3. Around the time, no one knew what a souls game was. I started palying it, and i died so many times, and i was thinking to myself, "Maybe im in a very high lvl'd area" but nope, i later realized it's just a hard ass game 😅
Don't worry, Stonefang has the same effect on everyone. If you can't continue in a certain area, maybe try changing your fighting style, or try another area in extreme situations. Don't put a limit on the possibilities the game offers you.
Demon Souls is definitely the least well balanced of the FromSoft games. There is a lot more trial and error.
I think the Spider is pretty tough melee. I just use a bow or spells and shoot them from the corridor.

Armor Spider easy kill: After passing the fog gate, stay there and hug the wall to the left. Its fireballs can't hit you there. Now kill it with a bow. 😊
Watching this makes me want to get back to DS, I’ve been on the Elden ring Dlc
I'm glad I played as a Royal so I could use magic and stay away from the opponents. After killing the dogs there was a wheel to activate the lift that you totally overlooked.
BTW the Falchion are a great wespon to upgrade and use.
The bridge that collapsed can be passed by running on the left or right piece of wood.
Go for the areas 1 first, then 2 and so on.
I’m happy you gave the game a try. It’s truly an IMMENSELY difficult game and this spider destroyed me so bad until reading attacks and staying point-blank range. You did very well for getting frustrated. I’d say how you went in to DS2 with a bow and other weapons is how this game becomes tolerable. But yeah. You’ll soon enough kick this games ass into oblivion.
And I never played that game! Valheim right? I wanted to but like Ark, that game eats so much time and attention.
Yeah Valheim! It's SO good!!! It's more fun with friends tho, I've never played it solo. I highly recommend trying it. :)

Another great episode, dont get too downbeat.. the game definitely takes some adjustment after playing the other fromsoft games. As others have said, after killing a boss and geting body form back, die in the nexis as this wont negatively affect the world tendency in any of the arch stones.
Keep it up, dont give up! I know you wont 😉👍 The game gets more fun as you get to grips with it - promise!

Your facial expression say it all. You could speak any language or not speak at all and we'd all understand. As I'm playing this myself I am not looking forward to this area at all. I'm only just before the Tower Knight in my playthrough.

yeah im playing this game last of all the souls games, looks so annoying.
On another topic of rage, I'm really annoyed at the amount of spoilers I've already seen for Shadow of the Erdtree before the game has even come out. I really dislike FromSoft's decision to give early access to these "influencers." I'm not even talking about gaming journalists to review it, they've just given it to a bunch of selected streamers. It's so unnecessary; the hype is real enough. And it's just plain nepotism.
That´s why i´m not seeing anything related. Easy.

It's not that difficult to just touch grass and not look at it if you don't want to see it lol. Most everyone I've seen who's gotten early access and made content revolving around the DLC has been really respectful of spoilers and made sure to include warnings regarding them.
I just can't do any Soul's type games... life is too short to even try...
