She wasn't happy because you are putting your hands on the soft flesh of the watermelon. These people make minimum wage selling fresh produce. I live in Australia and also cringe at you clowning around a market like this.

Clowning around? Think you need to lighten up, and minimum wage? I don’t think so majority of them own those businesses and are actually very successful at what they do.

Most farmers you see in the stalls are local ones selling their produce, but I think she over exaggerated a little bit about him touching water melons. You obviously can't taste watermelons there, but for berries and other smaller produce, it is acceptable in many circumstances to "taste a sample" aka eat one berry to see if you want to get it. It is possible that the lady wasn't happy them touching the watermelons cause they looked foreign to them and a lot of times people are quite racist and nationalistic in Latvia. Not everyone, but a lot of them are.

zeppelin hangars - MARKET HANGARS are in 1920s in Latvian independence time not by soviets
Located in the center of Riga, opposite the Riga International Bus Station, near the Riga Railway Passenger Station.
Riga Central Market is the largest market in Latvia, which was once recognized as the best and most modern market in Europe. Its bright symbol is the 20th century. Market pavilions built in the 1920s and originally used for military purposes.
During World War I, the German army established Vaiņode Airport in Kurzeme, where several airships were permanently located. These were elongated-shaped balloons filled with gas and enclosed to carry passengers and cargo. Control was provided by an internal combustion or electric motor and a wing in the housing. The airships were intended for reconnaissance or for bombing an enemy, for example, by attacking a Russian army seaplane airfield on the island of Roņi. The hangars are known to be called Walhalla and Walther.
After the Latvian War of Independence, the hangars were dismantled and used to build the hangars of the Riga Central Market, planning to leave them in their original size. It was later decided to use only the upper parts of the hangars.
Today you can see the metal structures of the German army airship hangar. The market provides a pleasant way to learn about the origins of world aviation.

I don't think its a depressing country. Of course, you shouldn't compare it with the likes of Morocco as the culture and climate is very different, but trust me, based on European standards, Latvia seems least depressing, especially when you would compare it to Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Austria, etc. These are all countries with dead streets, cold people, bland cultures, and poor weather.

Well just the same goes for Dubai where you are right now. Many avoid due to it being depressing and no good surroundings. At least rīga is full of old beautiful architecture, nice parks and so on which in fact are considered to be inspiring places by many. In any place. In general latvia has plenty of inspiring historical and natural places for inspiration. It seems that you cannot say the same for Dubai, I have not been there but that's what I have read from many. Many have no interest in visited Dubai and neither do I, that's the impression I get from the things I've seen about it, just not attractive

And I'm not exactly sure by what do you not much to do? What is it that you wanna do? What you wanna do may not be the same for someone else and they very well may be interested in other things. There are plenty of cultural, natural and historical things to do in latvia. Riga alone is full of all kinds of museums for example. Perhaps for someone who chose to live in Dubai the interests indeed may be quite a bit different. You can sometimes tell the values and interests of people by seeing in what kinds of places they choose to reside

To fully understand the situation in Latvia you would have to visit each county in Latvia. For example, Latgale is considered one of the poorest and underdeveloped regions in Europe. What i can say from my perspective is that too much of the available resources and developments are focused on Riga. The regions and provinces are forgotten for most of the time. Latvias main problem is the huge gap between rich and the poor... and that everything is centered in Rīga..

I don't think downtown is the best place to ask people about country, lol. Also asking 2 kumar brothers/immigrants who knows only teriyaki and chicken with dozen chilli or red pepper is a bit silly.

What is truly silly is racist people like you. Teriyaki is Japanese, not Indian. So if you’re going to insult someone with your racist comments, at least say something like curry to make some sense out of it.
