I use a coffee grinder dedicated to grinding dehydrated veggies. Gets it to the "powdered" stage.

I make tomato powder every year. Usually I sprinkle a little bit of garlic powder on the tomatoes before drying them so they have that garlic taste once they are dry. I even sprinkle powdered basil on them. Like you, I put them in my blender and after the blender has done its job I transfer it to my magic bullet or my husband's coffee bean grinder and that results in a very fine powder. I keep a desiccant packet in all of my dried food jars so they don't clump up. Hope this helps

I make tomato powder from dehydrated tomato skins during canning season. It blends to almost a dust.

I just made “sun dried” tomatoes with mine. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the tomato flakes you have. They’re very easy to use and I think the results are better than the powder. Keep up the good work! Love your channel ❤

I recomend a coffeegrinder to make more of a powder. Love your channel, thank you so much for all that you are sharing. Much love from the Netherlands ❤

Yes coffee grinder for sure. I think mine was 10 bucks. Makes smooth powder.😊🍅

I think you had freeze dried tomatoes in your mind that would blend down super fast! They definitely would turn to a fine powder in seconds! Dehydrated is a very different texture at the end, of course, so you'd likely need a really high powered blender to get the powder you were expecting/hoping for. These will still work great for thickening soups and stuff as they reconstitute in the liquid, and look how much space it takes for that sinkful of tomatoes!

i did mine in the dehydrator and putting them in olive oil with lots of basil and a garlic clove. yeah sun dried tomatoes in the dehydrator. i cut mine in half then in half again for the bigger one cut each half in 3rds. Big chunks lol then you have to rehydrate them in 3 to 1 water and vinegar, until they are leathery, like 2-3 mins depending on the size once cooled put in olive oil with garlic and basil oh these are sooo good! have them on my eggs every morning! Made Tomato powder with the left over from separating my tomatoes in the press, then dehydrated the skin and seeds together, after that in the grinder ! great for thickening soups and sauce

I still do my grandma's method. She only used the skins, she would make sauces and such where she would blanche them then peel the skins. She didn't have a dehydrator, so she used the oven for like 3 or 4 hours, taking them out and turning them every hour or so, then she used an old coffee grinder to get the fine powder like what you were looking for. In all honesty, I have only done it twice myself because I had a big harvest of tomatoes. The second year, I got experimental. I still have some of that batch. I used red skins from Pink Ponderosa and yellow skin from a medium sized tomato called lemon boy, made for a real pretty mix and then, for the heck of it, I added some dehydrated Anaheim pepper for kick. When it was finished, I added three dashes of Himalayan pink salt and its pretty good. If you get a chance to hit a thrift store some somewhere and get your hands on a coffee grinder, it is a game changer.

After pureeing my tomato sauce with a food processor, I stirred it through a sieve and then spread the residue from the sieve onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. I dried it in the oven at 50°C and then ground it into powder in a blender. It is very fine and aromatic. Tomato sauce in powder form.

I dehydrated seeds and skins from making tomato juice . I didn’t get a powder either ,more like little hard nuggets. I used a food processor and it messed up the bowl of the processor. I haven’t tried using it yet.

I would like to make a suggestion for dehydrating tomatoes that will make your experience with them a positive one. If you have a juicer that separates the pulp from the juice you have a perfect machine for having both tomato juice and tomato powder. The pulp is nearly powder ready once it comes out of the juicer and dehydrates beautifully plus it's much easier on your grinder when you go to powder it.

Don’t give up. I use the tomato skins after I blanch the tomatoes for my sauce, stewed, etc. after I dehydrate them I put them in a blender and they make a fine powder.
    Just a thought.

I made copy cat V 8 juice. It was too thick. I decided to dehydrate it. It was the consistency of tomato leather. I did use the ninja and bullet to powdered it. Then i added boiling water and it was great as V8 juice. Lol a long way to go fir it but it will be great for drinking.
Make it Make in working in my kitchen 😊❤ thanks again for sharing.

I’ve been wanting to dehydrate tomatoes(been too busy with peaches!), but I will add some salt and herbs and use them like chips. They are so good! But you can’t eat too many because of the acid, they kind of do a number on your mouth after a while.

I had bad luck with powdered tomatoes turning to rock as soon as I opened them from vacuum So I puréed my tomatoes cored and whole and put them on the silicone sheets with edges and super dried them like fruit leather then peeled them off and vacuum sealed in jars. They are fantastic for soups and stews and I don’t have to take a pick ax to get them out of the jars. We are very humid here. I have the same problem with beet powder. It’s much less work too

be sure with the powder to put an O2 absorber in the jar and vacuum seal it. They say dont just tighten the lid cause it can still collect moister

Hi there! First I want to say I ❤ your channel! I’ve been looking for someone who has the inside track on Original Canning! I have a question based on a video you did a while back for potatoes. I did mine yesterday! The jars are clear and beautiful…but I have water levels in the jars that are very different. I have a pic but don’t know where I can upload for you to look at. Some are still at the neck and some are 2-1/2-3” below the neck. The jars are completely sealed. Will they be ok?

Tomatoes do that.😅😅😅. I save them, put in stews, etc. Or grind for seasoning or making a veg soup base. I grind all the dried veggies, together use them to ma,e a season base stock. Great way to save my harvest😊😊

You are so beautiful Leilani! I just had to tell you that.
There is so much you can do with the powdered. If you would like a fine powder you can put it back in for longer. I have a ninja and I have powdered veggies that way as well. Stay fresh pouches are worth investing in.
For a thicker more pliable tomatoes cut them in half (long ways) lower your temp to about 128-138 and try 10 hours. 😊 have fun with your dehydrator! I want to send you some goodies and recipies when I start dehydrating again. It might be a while when I do I will reach out to you to send you goodies

    Hey sis,
I found this video... you love a beautiful looking jar of canned something and these are gorgeous. It has English caption but her jars are not lidded like a ball jar and the sealing device used...I could try and Google for it but (shrug), I don't know if I could find it. I can go back and post the question under her video and see if I get a response and answer in English. But I knew you love a pretty jar of canned food and these are eye candy. It makes me want to try it myself.
