    What you get at an Immigration Office is not a visa it is an extension of stay or a right to stay. Visas are only issued at Consulates or Embassies and are a travel document that allows you to enter the country under certain conditions and for a limited amount of time. What this guy did was change his status from having an extension of stay based on retirement to one based on being married to a Thai. He could have left the country and applied for a new visa based on marriage to a Thai but I guess it was easier to change his status at the Immigration Office.

    To do it properly you need to apply for the o visa outside thailand , multi entry , then apply for the marriage visa inside thailand .They don't like issueing a visa inside thailand thats why so many people have trouble at different thai offices.

      If money is not a problem I believe getting a Retirement Visa is easier.

    All I can add is if your marriage fails you lose you visa automatically and as far as I know you get 7 days to sort out your new status.
    You would be better off IMO, to not have to relie on someone else's whim in order to stay in the country.
    As you mention yourself immigration said it's easier unless money is the hurdle.

      That's right. Hopefully I can stay married. In hindsight I probably should have got a retirement Visa.

      It takes more than 7 days to get a divorce and it easier to switch to a retirement visa. Worry about that when it happens and not if.

      and also, if your spouse dies, you enter into the "7-day to fix your status in Thailand" scenario.

    Thank you for the update. I intend to re-enter Thailand early Feb on the (now) 45 day visa exempt stamp. Then go to my Local immigration and apply for the "O" Visa based on retirement.
    When you came back to Thailand last August did you have a flight booked out of Thailand or just entered Thailand on a one way ticket. Quick reply would be greatly appreciated.

    On a multiple enter marriage visa, does anyone know how long you can stay out of the country? I know one year and it'll expire. How about 5 months? I want to work in my country for 5 months then come back and still have valid marriage visa.

    Hi Brett,
    Great video,
    I am qualify for Non-O Visa and thinking of apply by myself but IS IT REALLY TO APPLY BY YOURSELF?
    If it is too hard, do you know any agency that I can pay to get it done?

    • @brettandsamthailand
      @brettandsamthailand  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are plenty of Agents in Thailand. I don't know of any personally. I didn't use an Agent because I live in Rural Thailand and there are none close by. I have the time to do it myself and I like to find out the process by myself.

      @@brettandsamthailand it’s 2 months before and you can spend it after extension stamp has been stamped based on marriage. Just make sure you put it back 2 months before extending. I spend it all then replace as l prefer to keep my money in Australia. Been doing that for 4 years now.

    • @KeunMikeun
      @KeunMikeun ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's 3 months prior to, then they check every year. On each annual check, it needs to be in there 3 months prior again. Best to just leave the money in there I think.

      Depends on which immigration you visit. It appears each office has different rules. It might pay to try a different office like Udon Thani.
