  • While I was waiting for my repaired starter parts to arrive I decided to replace the wheels on the Bonnie. When I got the bike the wheels were in a bit of a state where it had been stored for years, I ordered new rims and spokes from Central Wheel Components www.central-wheel.co.uk/ and hubs from Ebay. New discs, tyres, sprocket and bearing parts were from Feked Classic Bike Parts www.feked.com/ Tyres were fitted by Cabot Tyres in Totterdown, and wheels were trued by Paul Rylands at Classic Wheel Works / classicwheelworks.co.uk who did a very quick turnaround.

Nice looking wheels, but are you sure about the spoke angles for the rear wheel? My 78 T140V has 90 degrees for the inners, but 85 degrees for the outers, with the extra 2mm under the head to allow for the extra bend. These are the same for both long and short spokes.
I've always stuck with the Dunlop TT100s for mine, 4.10-19 and 4.10-18, as factory fitted. Those Roadrider 2s are good tyres, though, I've got them on my GS550.
Those discs look interesting, I'll have to look into those for mine. I replace the original chrome front disc on mine with a plain cast iron one about 20 years ago and it's a bit better, especially in the wet, but nowhere near as good as modern brakes. One upgrade I did to the front brake was replacing the original 5/8" bore master cylinder barrel with a 13mm, stainless steel version. Externally, it is identical, with the same fittings, but it gives much better feel and 50% more leverage.
I hope the new parts resolve the starter issues.

Hi Rick, You may be right about the spoke angles but I couldn't see any difference thats why I was a bit confused, and the wheel trued up OK despite having a bit of a wobble where the weld was. The front ones were obviously different angles. I have a pair of new TT100 tyres so if I don't like the roadriders they can go back on. The discs were quite expensive but if it improves the braking will be worth it. I got them here www.feked.com/girling-floating-brake-disc-4-hole-triumph-750cc-disc-brake-models-from-1973-onwards.html. Interesting mod to the master cylinder, thanks for the tip. New starter parts arrive tomorrow!

@@probewizard Usually, the outer spokes are bent to an acute angle, with the extra distance between the head and the bend, so that they have a straight pull between the hub flange and the rim, without being bent around the edge of the flange.

@@rickconstant6106 Yeah I see why it is like that, but I ain't taking it apart again, hub will just have to get creased if they are wrong lol.
