Yay! Bought a 530 yesterday and was getting ready to return it as I couldn't get my four data fields (power, cadence, HR, time) on the map page like I could with my Bolt. This solves that defect. Thanks!
Just installed it, that is a brilliant addition, and hiding the headers when in motion makes the 6 fields even easier to see. Great stuff Shane, thank you!! PS. I did have the re-add my Garmin to my Android phone to do this. The Garmin software has been really flaky the last 6 months or so for me. Anyone else?
Just given it a go on my 530 on a timely, unfamiliar 3 hour route. Worked really well, even on such a compact unit, with the headings hidden setting on. Really handy to be able to keep an eye on the route while being able to clearly see power, speed and distance etc. 👍
Will watch on the big screen when I get home but the title got me excited thinking a new Edge was here. Was patient waiting for the Epix, can be the same for the Edge. Love the outdoor videos.
And … installed, awesome! Thanks for the great work Erik and the wonderful directions Shane. I’m a cycling data junkie from way back in the Avocet 50 days and my career was a database programmer. Just fantastic stuff you two. Keep up the great work.
I just purchased a Garmin e830 after saving up for months. The device itself is impressive enough! This Datafield concept is new and exciting. Can’t wait to try this one. To the developer. Thank you for sharing your awesome programming skilz with us mere mortals. Donation coming soon! Thank you so much Shane for this kind of guidance to a newbie like myself. You save people from wasting time and being confused. BTW, that scenery and road ride had me completely distracted! Such a beautiful terrain. Thanks so much for all the effort you put into these productions! Cheers!
Thanks for this, GP Lama. Following this video, I installed this on my Garmin, but the real 'hidden' win out of installing it is a MUCH more responsive "Grade" field. I found that Garmins are generally around 35 seconds delayed as you change grade, but the field on MapDashboard is much more reactive. In fact, if you swipe between the MapDashboard field and the regular Garmin field on a hill, you'll see how much the Garmin one lags.
I used Erik’s 4 data field dashboard last year in a stage race. It’s great for focussing on navigation and a few key metrics. I also added Titan Lab’s Kommander to my bars so I can switch data screen easily (because I have a SRAM Red & it has no Shimano-like buttons to control Garmin screens on my shifters ☹️ - a miss by SRAM).
If you use the synchro-shifting mode (at least that's what it's called on Shimano Di2), you can use just the right shift levers to control both front and rear derailleurs (the fronts will shift once you hit a specific rear gear that you configure). That frees up the left shift levers that you can configure to control your Garmin Edge (switch data screens, etc). Works great
Hi @@shahedameer - SRAM’s system doesn’t offer that functionality. It broadcasts a lot of data to a Garmin head unit but not a command to cycle forward and back on Garmin screens.
I've been using that ever since I got my 530 last September. I think this is the best IQ data field app around tbh. Question Shane: Which other IQ apps do you use on your Edge devices and your Garmin watches? Maybe another video idea?
Hey GPL - just a note for racers who wants to install apps like this mapdashboard on a second Garmin device: make sure to select device you want to install apps on in Connect IQ shop at the lower right side "my devices" and switch to the desired device registered (must be registered in Garmin connect!) Greets MAP
Great tip, giving it a whirl, thanks. As for roadworks, count yourself lucky, no less than 6 sets of temporary traffic lights on a recent 100k ride! Granted it's the SE of England and digging up the road season but still 🤷♂️
MapDashBoard..great success thanks for heads-up 👍changing the subject a bit, what can you tell me about GroupTrack if you can🤔I’ve turned on all that is required and so has my co rider.. I have a 1030, he has an 830..both start Livetrack but nothing is displayed on either of our Garmins..watched numerous TH-cam videos but still can’t get it to work! Any vids on the subject would be most welcome and keep those interesting vids coming😊👍
Thanks, very useful tips! Is there a way to set up different map dashboards for different profiles, or can we only set up one? I'd like a map with different fields when racing a TT on a new course, compared to a group ride.
Hi Shane thanks for the video very informative. Not sure whether you can help but I’m having problems installing MapDashboard. Firstly my phone is connected to my 1030 but it won’t connect to the IQ Store..any ideas.
Question for you, done it on my map. Great. Wanted to also add it on the climb pro screen but this one shows 2 fields by default. Can place the MapDashboard there, but only takes half of the screen. I cannot find where to change the 'climb Pro' as just 1 field instead of 2. I feel stupid. Do you know how, or is it not working on the climbpro page, only on the map?
I wrote an app/widget, GRouteLoader, that downloads routes and locations. It's kind of like the RWGPS app but works on many more devices and the widget version works when recording an activity (There is no RWGPS widget version and the RWGPS app isn't available on the 1030+ and watches, etc). My app combines the functionality of 4 apps and it's fairly easy to club schedules on the devices and let members download the routes for those rides. One reviewer called it a "Swiss Army Knife". (I'd include links but Google is trashing comments with links. Err.) Look it up in Garmin IQ. I have a link to a website that has even more details (and screenshots). (Mapdashboard is the greatest thing ever.)
Would be nice to implement the fields from Shimano steps, so on e-bike we could select the assist mode and % battery in 2 fields. I looked thru the settings and for now it's not possible and in other downloaded data fields I could.
Hi Shane very informative video. So after numerous installing and uninstalling I still cannot get the map to display on my 1030! I just get 6 fields at the top of the data screen! Any ideas would be most welcome😊
Shane, superb info. Can you advise, how do i do a FTP test using a Garmin Edge 530 and a KICKR Core , the Edge 530 automatically sets to ERG mode which does not help with a FTP, i do not use any other platform, cheers
Not something I've tried with just an Edge unit. Looking at the documentation it looks like it executes a step test protocol, where ERG is fine. Here's a video a while back I did about a step test protocol on Zwift: th-cam.com/video/ZtKTdf9yhZE/w-d-xo.html
If I understand well, you can’t have this setup differently in 2 pages ? And what about having both this one (the 6 data fields) and the other one (4 data fields) to have way more data fields than the original 10 ?
Excellent, I was looking for more fields in Climp Pro mode! Edit: Damn, I was wrong, It doesn't work on Elevation and Climb Pro screens since they only support 2 data fields and they cannot be configured to one. Shame 😕
I've always been keen on the 830 as my next upgrade but this video has made me think twice about the 1030. Am I missing out on anything going the 1030? The smarts are the same despite the 830 being the newer model?
The 1030 Plus is what you're after for the equivalent of the 830. (The 1030 Plus is a slight step up from the 530/830 with a larger capacity to allow for global maps).
Has anybody Problem with a time-zone setup of Garmin Edge 830? I use it in Austria, every set up done, only the time and temperature is shown where produced is (Taiwan time and temperature are cannot set up to european). I tried it via Garmin Connect too. Nothing changed.
Loved this, one question, has anyone got ETA to work when following a route? Normally use this when I have to get home for a certain time but it appeared blank when following a route using this IQ app today 🤔
@@shahedameer Thanks. So it displays the estimated time (of day) you will complete the current route? Might just have been a glitch if so and will give it another go.
The option without the titles also use a larger bolt font which makes it more unreadable than the one with the title and smaller font. That's a bit odd I think.
Random question regarding data fields: ¿is it possible to highlight in color the current HR zone in the heart rate data field, like Wahoo does without having to add another data field for the current HR zone?
@@gplama thank you, I'm new to the Garmin ecosystem (been using a Garmin Edge 830 for around a month) and I'm just getting familiar with the Connect IQ Store, your videos have been very helpful, thanks a lot!
