This video is for all Toyota proximity smart keyless entry car owners.
The remote proximity has a button on the door handle to lock and a sensor in the handle that picks up the key fob and unlocks when you reach your hand behind the handle to open the door.
The remote proximity smart key, also known as keyless entry allows you to open your car and start it without
touching the smart key fob, a small device that transmits a code to a car’s computer when in close range.
Today, we a 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid with a proximity smart key and a push to start system.
This applies to all newer Toyotas with similar features.
I’m going to show you how I protect my car from being stolen by car thieves
Please do share your thoughts, and feedbacks in the comments below, in the steps you are taking to prevent your car from being stolen.
I really appreciate it if you hit that like, and subscribe button, to help this channel grow.
Until next time. Thanks for watching!

I am glad, after discussing things with my manager at Autozone, I knew I didn't want a push start due to electrical issues causing repetitive battery draining problems, so I wanted a normal key. I was delighted to find my 13' had a normal key entry & start though I know that never guarantees it won't be stolen or have issues. But it made me feel better and I love it entirely.

Manufacturers also need to include additional security options, like an optional passcode, that drivers can initiate to prevent future theft.

HOnestly, what I did was buy a small Faraday keybox (which fits in my pocket and is only slightly larger than the key itself). I put the remote to sleep and then removed the battery (keep the keyless remote in the Faraday box). I also got a few copies of the mechanical key made. I use the mechanical key to unlock the doors, and to start the car, I just open one end of the Faraday box to expose the key and hold up to the push button starter until it beeps and then start the car. Again, this limits the range and the Faraday box protects the key (even though the battery is removed). By using the mechanical key, and removing the battery, the keyless entry on the door handles (proximity sensor) doesn't work so the doors have to be locked using the button the front doors or the mechanical key.
Doing this method might be overkill,. but it also means that your key is no longer transmitting a signal since the battery is removed. The Faraday box helps protect anyone from even capturing the signal, and the mechanical key for the door lock means that the proximity lock/unlock feature is non-functional on the car. With the battery removed, you do have to hold the key close to the ignition switch (about 2-3 inches, as there is a wireless signal that is transmitted from the car, but it's very short range, maybe a few inches so it's too weak for anyone to pick up. Plus for the car to start, the key fob has to respond so this makes it much harder for anyone to get the frequency or code from the key fob. I also would recommend a metal Faraday container, as the pouches tend to wear out from being folded and unfolded (and thus the thin metal material can break apart where the pouch folds. If you do use faraday pouches, I'd say replace them about every year or so just to be sure that it's still securing your key fob's signal. But the best route is the one I described above: Key fob case (Faraday box/cage), put the remove to sleep, remove the battery, and only use the mechanical key to unlock the doors.
For additional security, and not specific to Toyotas, if you have to store your car somewhere outdoors for a long period of time (say at an airport) remove the starter relay from the underhood fuse panel. This will prevent the car from starting unless someone has a relay for that specific generation of car (this isn't a surefire way to ensure anti-theft, but it will make it harder for someone to steal as they would have to then get a starter relay to start the vehicle -- obviously doesn't stop them from towing the vehicle).

If you want the best solution, install an IGLA system. It’s an electric killswitch that disables ignition that’s hidden anywhere within the CAN bus system. Even if the thieves stole your keys or key fob, they won’t be able to start your car without entering the PIN code (made up of up to 20 button sequence presses of the buttons that’s already on your car). Simply put, if the thief wants to take your car, they have to tow it. That negates 99.9% of thieves who don’t walk around at night with a tow truck. Better yet, combine your IGLA with a Compustar alarm that detects shock, glass break or car tilt and the independent alarm goes off (has its own battery) and sends a message to your phone.

Avoid buying the top five most stolen makes in USA/Canada: Acura/Honda, Lexus/Toyota, Jeep/Dodge, Land Rover and Ford. Next, use a steering wheel club lock. And if you can, stick to older vehicles with physical, metal ignition keys - you can still get nice VWs, Nissan, Subarus, GM and others from 2018 or so thus equipped. This will decrease the odds of your car being stolen. Bonus points if you drive a manual transmission. For example, no one in Africa wants your 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander with 2wd and manual shift.

Besides all the good advise below I also did 2 more things. 1) Cover your VIN # on the dash smart keys can programmed based on VIN # by unscrupulous people with access to a dealer. 2) Relocate your OBD diagnostic port or buy an OBD port lock. High Tech thieves will break the driver's door handle to gain entry then hack your car and just program a new key and drive away. I prefer relocation over a lock. You can purchase powered dummy OBD ports that will power a hacker's equipment but not allow communication and extend your real port to a discrete place of your choosing.
