    I just had my Lexus RX 350 stolen June 4th parked outside my house. 99% of the time it is in my garage, however, I had my driveway paved & left my RX outside for 4 nights! The dirt bags must have done exactly what you described in your “tube!” At the time I did not know how to deactivate the key fob from the car! Nevertheless, I believe that Lexus/Toyota should. E doing more @ the design, manufacturing level to combat this problem! It is absolutely ridiculous that “dirt bags” can steal these automobiles so easily! Now, if I purchase another RX, I will have to be concerned about same “dirtbags” or different “dirtbags” will do the same thing & steal my replacement. I am in quite a conundrum as to whether to get another Lexus or just purchase an older used car that no one wants to steal! This is what our country is becoming!🇨🇦

      I know man. My brother in law has his tundra stolen off his driveway… it’s sad. But right now, they’ll take anything. With new vehicles so hard to get. They are even taking corollas. Try pulling the fuel relay when you park the truck overnight. It cuts the fuel to engine. They stole like 100 cars in Scarborough one weekend… unfortunately if they want it, they’ll get it

    It’s ridiculous that Toyota UK’s advice is to get a steering wheel lock, I haven’t needed one of those since my old 1980s Mini! Smart keys have created a problem that didn’t exist!

    As far as I know it's not that easy, the signal from your key works to open the car but you need the actual key to turn it on, because it's not the same signal, and there's other features that's the car computer check between the real key and itself before starting the car. So, they may be use this system to open the car but then they have to do something else on de OBD 2 system.

    Does Toyota have a key fob system that have the proximity sensor turned off and yet still acts like a regular key fob? That way it will never unlock itself when you get close.
    Disabling the key fob doesn’t really solve theft issues if the thief just waits until you re-enable your fob to capture that remote signal. I think old school Toyota key fobs make more sense. Want to unlock? You have to push the unlock button doesn’t matter if you are close or not. Will Toyota ever go back to this system?

  • @daveborchard2019
    @daveborchard2019 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Could the key fob be modified so that pushing the button is mandatory to unlock the vehicle? It would be an extreme hassle to repeatedly disable the continuous key fob transmissions. It seems like a brain dead design that key fobs are designed so poorly that make the vehicles much more vulnerable to theft for the slight convenience of not having to press a button to unlock your vehicle.

    Should have never done away with using keys alone to crank the engine. Perhaps they could create a faster short signal range where it’s too fast to be detected by just touching the handle. Like lighting speed that can’t register if not on the handle. I guess that’s getting into fingerprint detection. Allow programmable prints. Leave the long range code that only locks. So two separate codes. How are these dealerships not getting robbed blind?

    So why didn't Toyota make the RFID disable permanent by pushing the buttons? What a pain to play with buttons every time you park your car.
