I walk in there and come out with a new reason why I hate them. So I Go To my Avon IRC Music and get it there.
the scariest thing is going to a guitar store when you’re just beginning or don’t really know a lot and they just judge you and give you and the other employees a look that says you shouldn’t be there
That’s why I don’t want to go into a store but I don’t wanna order online so I’m trying to figure out how to get this hobby started
I’m in the same position but I think I’m just going to suck it up and go in the store and why should I care if they judge me on my skill or knowledge gotta start somewhere
Don't stress it, I was a beginner too and was scared to go guitar center but they were really nice
If a guitar store does that don't give them your business. Find a good one that will support you as a beginner as you know they will help you out even when you're experienced.
I was thinking the same thing 5 years ago when I started, I’m a girl and had never played guitar before and I reallyyyy didn’t want to go in but I wanted to learn to play, so I went in to my local stores and I would look at price, and i would just try stuff out and even just hold it so see how it felt, dont be afraid to ask questions to the employees because that’s why they’re there, they want other people to pick up their hobby of playing guitar too

At my Guitar Center I ask for a pick nearly every time I go there. I felt so bad about this that one time I was there and asked if they sold a pack of picks and the guy was like "No but I can give several of these" as he pulled out the fishbowl and gave me like 5. It was awesome. They are like their business cards so they don't really mind giving them away.

Nikki im a left handed bass, i dont think i could play a left handed guitar as good unless i restring it because i learned how to play on a right handed bass, backwards and upside down.

Love this, esp. being a female. It’s so true, you get hit on, judged, or ignored.
But, the worst I always have is going in the room full of classical and acoustic guitars, and they’re atrociously out of tune. Ask for a tuner and I always get the “We don’t have one,” or, “You know those are classical right?”

When I was 17, I went to a Guitar Center and asked the poor girl at the sales desk if they had any flying v's. She proceded to lead me around the entire store picking up random guitars and handing them to me. She didn't even know what a flying v was. I know she was probably a minimum wage college student, but that experience forever cemented by dislike for Guitar Center.
Doubt you could afford one and she knew it. I wouldn't give you that much time. If you can't identify a Flying V by yourself looking around you need to go home. The Guitar Ctr. team is taught to recognize Kiss Army

It wasn't quite 5k but this literally happened to me when my mom and I went to get my first guitar when I was 12. The guy came out with this 1200 dollar guitar saying, "Look, if your kid is serious about guitar, this is the one he needs!" my mom just looked him right in the eye and said, "Look, if you're serious about getting a sell, this is NOT what I need." lol
I ended up with a 50 dollar nylon string guitar. :D I still have it. I wish the guy were better at selling expensive guitars, though....

Warranty isn't an idiot tax, it's a spare tire. I have warranty on all of my electronics, even though I've not once screwed them. There's a first time for everything.
Tom Morello warranties are a great way to protect against accidents. My rule is pick an amount that you can easily come up with to replace a piece of equipment if it fails, mine is $150, any gear that costs more than that get the warranty. That amount or less no warranty. That simple.

Me too. I wanted to try a fretless bass, and I asked to a guy, that said:"not now!" And all the others employees where too busy. In the end, another guy arrived, said "I want to try a bass" and started playing. He has been there for 30 fucking minutes, than I decided to go away. As someone who works in a music shop I can tell you that in store pricing is spot on almost all of the time, at least at my store. We also price match if it's something reasonable and from an authorized vendor
Well then his local sales guy shouldn't be a dick and refuse to let him try the Epiphone. As someone who used to run a brick and mortar store, if one of my employees had decline to let a customer try out an axe because he didn't want to have to clean it again, that employee would be back to flipping burgers the next day.

Bro literally any time I go into a guitar center they just assume I don't know what I'm talking about because I still look fairly young, so they just explain everything in the most simple, childish terms. My mom does the same thing
At my local GC I play bass in bands with a third of the employees, another third of them know that, but the last third don't know who I am at all, so they come treat me like they would anyone else off the street. There's like this unspoken agreement between all of us to just let them do it too. It's a good time.

20w???? First off if you tune low enough you literally are killing the need for a bass player, hell you're a bass player that hasn't come out of the closet. If it's a baritone guitar I get it, nothing wrong with that, but a normal guitar, you seriously don't need anything overly thick unless your fingers have the strength of ten men.
+Jason Jacobs i heard jazz players tend to use really heavy strings to prevent accidentally bending notes in their chords, and heavier strings add that bling to your clean sound. but tuning lower than drop a makes no sense to me either... d tuning ftw

Guitar Centre once tried to give me $350 for a 6 month old Gibson Les Paul Special that cost $1,100. Ended up selling it on Craigslist for $750.
why didnt you sell it for more though? guitars dont really lose their value, unless they get dented or slightly damaged.
Again, Guitar center is like Lamestop for instruments. It's easier to take it to a local music store or a pawn shop to retain what you've paid for. I prefer taking it to church, make a couple cents, and be strongly blessed for it.

That's why the luthier perk and ebay can be your friend in cases like these. GC goes by that dreaded commission pay roll like a dealer because they're trying to get rid of their inventory, but generate a small profit to pay these saps a living wage. I'd be fired within a week for BS reasons like telling them the truth/secrets of fixing a broken instrument without busting the bank, guitar lifehacks, and work with the customer's needs instead of throwing random stuff they can't afford/suits their needs just to be on top of the sales board.
