My only complaint with Island Sanctuary is the lack of options to personalize the island/buildings/layout. I'm sure we will get more of these in the future. I went hard on it only because I wanted to start producing a source of cowries for the mounts. While like the gold saucer I don't want instant gratification (the feeling when saving up that first 1,000,000 mgp for Fenrir was amazing) when we set out to achieve the goals the journey to reach the final payoff needs to be as rewarding as the prize at the end of the line.

Yea I wish there was a bit more personalization options. Like buildings based on architecture from the main city states. Or just more than 3 options for the looks of the hideaway besides grass, dirt, and stone.

I enjoy the Island Sanctuary, I've not bothered about being "efficient" at all. I just go there, mine some copper or harvest some flowers, build the structures and whatever else there is.
On my island I only have monkeys & I only plant pumpkins.

I'm personally not a fan of timegating because instead of letting people do things at their own pace (yes, speedrunning is still "their own pace"), it *tells* people how fast they should be pacing themselves. Also am not a fan of how their tutorials are presented in awkward paragraphs of text. It makes shit feel more like a mobile game, though that being described as a glorified submarine or squadron system makes sense too.
However, the core foundations are still there and timegating doesn't really "ruin" the experience, though I just think it doesn't have to be there. I think people just want their cool glamours and rewards ASAP because good ponytails are definitely something people have been wanting for *ages*. Or play in short bursts so they can enjoy other parts of the game, or even other games.
Otherwise, you did bring up a good point. Other than the glamours and rewards that you will get eventually, it really doesn't matter on how fast or slow you pace yourself.

The problem isnt the min maxing. Its the fact you have to manually grind just to keep things going. Maxed out sanctuary? Great! Assign people to manage all your farms. Pay them every single day. Right click them to harvest the crop and harvest mats from the animals- or the crops will die and animals go away. You need to grind more, if you dont want to watch your workshops stop because they dont have mats to make items and pay your laborers!
Sadly, the island is MADE to demand constant interaction to keep going. So its not surprising everyone is taking it seriously and not taking it slow.

My only issue is with the speed of the crop growth when compared to the speed of the workshop agendas and the pasture. those timings should line up, so even if there's a time-delay, it doesn't feel like a "timegate". it may look simple, but games like harvest moon and animal crossing have perfected these things. the goal is for casual content that you can "zen out" in while doing. the problem with the production timings not lining up is that it creates frustration, and that sense of frustration takes people out of that state of flow that people that enjoy this genre of games crave.

Look at the seeds before you plant them, it states the exact time it takes for them to grow, all the basic gatherable seeds take exactly 48 hours, if you've remembered to water them. - Easy to time it with the pasture leavings every 2 days that way.

    • @UmatsuObossa

Yes, acquiring rarer materials for pricier handicrafts isn't very well tuned to the speed of handicraft making. It's difficult to plan to make more than the basics, which can go from "nonexistent stock" to "surplus" even just making them a few times in a season.

This is not so bad once you have 3 workshops, 2 granaries and 2 to 4 cropland and pastures.
Look at the popularity of items and pick things where the popularity is rising and the supply is insufficient or nonexistent. Then making sure to alternate between things to get efficiency bonus, line up the workshop even if you don't have the items.
Once the workshop for the next day or two is set, check the material allocation. Gather whatever you can gather that shows up with a Deficit in the last column (if the deficit says -5, gather 5 so the deficit is 0). Then plant whatever you need two days in advance. Also catch animals whose guaranteed drop you need and give them the cheapest food so they just give you the guaranteed leaving.
Also send the granary exploration to whatever area has the hidden item you will need in a couple of days.
      Basically it's just planning.

@Daniel Morgan Jr 1) No need for the condensending attitude. If its not meant, then apologies, but it looks like it.
      2) Yes, that is a "them" thing. ThTs why they started with "my only problem is..." rather than "the problem with Island Sanctuary is...". They are owning that its an issue they, specifically, have but not everyone will have an issue with.
      3) Its cool that you can walk around, enjoy the island, take in the sights and that is good enough for you. But to apply that to everyone is foolish at best. People like a sense if progression, even in casual heavy games. Asking for an activity to "zen" out for the average playerbase so the time gates are less noticeable is very fair feedback, and vital as Yoshi P has even said they wanted feedback for IS since it is new content.
Something as simple as maybe mini games that can be played on the island, such as something to do with the pets at the Pasture, or "helping the mammots" when they are building something to give it a small boost, or puzzles to complete, jump puzzles, if we get crazy we can even through in golf, chess, etc. In otherwords, they are mentioning why some have an issue and what they may like as an alternative. Be mindful of their fun as well, because the OP wasnt demanding rhe change or anything, but giving their own view in a mature way.

people saying that the "Spreadsheet gamers" are ruining island sanctuary need to stop and reconsider some stuff. The Island is a solo instance thing, how one person chooses to do it doesn't affect you in the slightest. You are not required to look at there spreadsheets or graphs, charts, lists. Them minmaxing the island doesn't affect your game experience in LITERALLY any way, shape or form. Stay in your lane, and let the die-hards who wanna run through it ASAP play there way, just like they are letting you play yours. Seven hells, they're even giving you an extra resource if you decide to try playing that way later on yourself in that those charts and graphs are already up.
TL;DR the die-hards doing island there way doesn't affect the people complaining at all. go touch grass.

I am definitely the sort of person that loves this sort of low stress grindy content.
I got my sanctuary to rank 10 yesterday and completed building my hideaway this morning, the time gates actually work to pace the completion of the construction to match the rate at which you acquire the cowries you need to expand quite well, if you are not obsessed with exp grinding to reach maximum rank immediately and you hold back on buying the glamer until you finish the construction. Though I did do exp grinding while waiting for ranks 8 and 9 to finish constructing, but as I said above I do love doing low stress grinding. :)

I don't even play daily, so I definitely haven't done much grinding on my island. I forget if I'm at rank 6 or 7, think it's just 6, but I enjoyed it more as I unlocked the workshop and granary. I think the bad points of the island sanctuary are:
    1. Island Sprint should be toggled on permanently like the PVP sprint, cause you can already keep it up indefinitely. Just a QOL change so we don't have to mash that button all the time.
    2. The orchestrion should play music across your entire island.
Otherwise I haven't run into real problems with it. I'm sure next time I play I'll see how mad my animals are or how bad my garden's gotten, but eh, whatever. None of it matters.

In 1 week, I've managed to get maybe 2k? cowries from my workshops. Now that's with missing out on 3 days of play. I'm not trying to be like "oh this will take exactly 3 month, 2 weeks, 4 days, 18 hours, 35 minutes, and 2 seconds to collect everything." 4 months is just a general idea of how much I expect myself to get through this content based on my personal experience. There is indeed a fine line between optimizing because you love it and also flogging the grind unnecessarily beyond what the game intended. Most games like Island Sanctuary (AC:NH, Rune Factor 4, Stardew Valley, etc), I've played. I sunk hundreds of hours into RF4 particularly. However, I watched my friends and family play Animal Crossing: New Horizons during Covid. For some, it was their first time playing it. They went full ham--spent hours and hours on it, abused time travel, and whooshed through the content. The end result? Discontent. "Is this it? What do I do?" Many of them began to realize that while they had reached "endgame" and had nothing to do beyond maintenance, I was still enjoying my "slow" gameplay. I did end up leaving AC:NH because there wasn't any combat gameplay, but I recognized that the small incremental changes had become meaningless for many because they had min-maxed the fun out of everything and essentially 'cheated the system'. Most of them ended up wiping their data and starting fresh recently.
When IS arrived, I knew this would happen too, despite the time-gating. After Level 10, after people getting all the prizes etc, there'll be a "what now? is this it?" After all, while IS is robust for a mini-game within a game, it is by no means comparable to the complexity of RF4 or SV. It is also, as far as I know, incomplete and will be updated in the future. Additions to IS will also take time since it won't be updated every patch either. Yoshi-P has repeatedly tried to tell us that MMOs do not equal grindfests, while giving us some grinding options (I even did the Bozja grind for a ShB relic), but even so, he did give us some options for grinding and you can achieve a limited grind on IS... but in order for IS to provide a long-term, non-timegated grind, it'd have to be way more robust in terms of assets and rewards. I have some ideas on that, but we'll see what the team does.
Keeping all of this in mind, I have decided to go at it slowly. Even "slowly", I'm still further than I expected to be. I have steered away from guides (even the guides you made, Quazii, sorry!) because I want to learn it all on my own. And until my island reached 6, I didn't visit friends' islands either. I haven't min-maxed anything, but I can see the lure whenever I open up my tasks management box. Still, I feel like people have forgotten already what IS is about, what Yoshi-P has stated over and over on the design philosophy behind the island. This section of the game isn't poorly designed or structured necessarily, It is made with a very casual philosophy in mind. In fact, I think this philosophy runs throughout FFXIV as a whole...? Complaining on time-gating is on par here to WoW players complaining about "the lack of (raiding) content" in FFXIV's endgame simply because FFXIV doesn't have a pitiless gear grind and punishing boss runs with 'run back to your body' mechanics.

While I think there should be more variety when it comes to crop growth times (maybe like the berries take one day to grow and give less yeild and pumpkins take 3 days and give more yeild or something). These time gates are there to save the players from themselves
You know that there are people that, if there weren’t any timegates, would of 100% the island in 6 hours and then spent the other 6 complaining about the lack of content in Island Sanctuary.

In all honesty, I haven't entered Island Sanctuary. I know people are hyped about this but there is so much content in FFXIV that it will be kind of hard to just mash it into one day (doing DR and dailies, Crafting 3-stars, Gathering the new nodes, finishing Hildi etc). So I'm just chilling out until I finish or feel satisfied with those before doing Island Sanctuary. I'm a fan of this kind of games but I want to do others first :D No problem with the time-gating part. It would be weird if it is not time-gated, to be honest :D Also, when it gets too tedious in-game, I always step back and relax so as I can play for most parts of the week without burning out :D

but tbh. i dont care how other people play it because it doesnt affect me and my experience with it. if people want to rush it or go crazy with it. fine. i feel like people care too much of what other people are doing. if someone is harassing you on how slow or fast you are going just block them. simple

It doesn't respect my time when I have it available, it respects the time when the developers *think* I should have it available. A lot of the timers are super strict and act as hard gates to any progress unless you're willing to grind stuff out.
Compare it to another time gated system like tomestones. Tomestones are basically "You have a week, get it however you see fit within that week." Sanctuary is "You must follow this strictly prescribed method that halts everything and you need to check the essentially daily timers to continue."
Totally up to you which you prefer, but I definitely prefer the flexibility of the tomestone style.

I think situations are different for everyone. For example, I wasn't too interested in the islands and thought, it'll probably be a cool little thing to check out one day, until I figured out that there is not one, but two literal character customization options (the hair) to obtain from the islands. I'm in the boat where I want to have brand new ways to customize my legitimate character body, and of course I'd want it as fast as possible. I wouldn't complain that there's no more content or nothing left to do, I would say hell yeah I got my items, now I can move on to something else. (In my head with no knowledge of islands, I thought I'd be able to hop on, grind for a while, and knock this out) But I was met with the workshop time gates and others.
I think it just depends on what people want, I personally don't mind waiting for resources to build up for the mounts and glamour, but actual character customization options are prio number 1 in mmos for me and I tend to prioritize them over anything else.
I'm just saying there's different reasons why people might complain about a timegate. The greatest thing about not time gating is just that people can choose to go at their own pace or finish quickly.
The ones who actually complain about having nothing to do after just don't make any sense.

I think the optimizing right now is due to that 17k cowrie in a week achivement, as well as people trying to figure out how the mechanics for the island/workshop actually work. The weekly reset threw off everyone's supply expectations really badly from what was "common sense"

No one is forgetting to have fun. The developers forgot to add playable content. It's all time gates and automated spreadsheets. There is literally nothing to actively do except gather mats to feed into an automated invisible manufacturing process that serves no purpose greater than the manufacturing itself.

I'm at level 8 on my island. I started a day late, but I haven't been going hard on it either. I play a lot of similar games, so I have a way of doing things that's efficient for me without requiring much work. Island Sanctuary is more shallow than other systems I've seen, and since it caps at level 10 and there aren't many ways to customize things, I see no reason to rush it.
That being said, it's a solo thing. People can play however they want to, and that won't effect anyone else. That's the best thing about it right now.

i dont think min maxing is the issue here. the issue is people farming it so hard they went out and farmed 10xp at a time to get level 10 in 3 days. also crafted nets and stuff that they would never use for more xp. they made a chore out of it instead of just having fun. and as much as they say they had fun running around hitting rocks for hours while watching something else on another scream they can lie to themselves all they want. now they have nothing to do but wait for their money to come in to get items.

I learned the last two times I ranked up that gathering the last 500-1.5k exp you need to get to the next rank isn't worth it. Because once you rank up you find out you just have more gathering to do to renovate/expand. It's tiring. Right now I'm at rank 8 and although I'm itching to gather the last bit of 5k exp I need, I won't. I'll just get it through the workshop and rank up tomorrow.

My only timegate-complaint would be that the only Cowries you can actually farm without being gated are completely useless.

I just spent 6000 I saved up for one of the hairstyles (the non-Estinien one).

The philosophy behind that is most likely that they dont want you to consume everything in a few sessions. Given that we're most likely getting more updates in 6.4, they have like 8 months to pad things out so you don't feel bored fast when you have nothing to buy.

I feel like Island Sanctuary needs more side content that isn't for progressing but more for socializing/lore aspects.
The Orchestrion for instance would be nice to share the tune with other players in the area.
Or minor 'side content' functionality like making use of your DoH jobs to serve NPC food items for seafarer currency.
Or maybe 'serve' dishes to your friends this way too.
Turn your Island Sanctuary into a tourist trap for NPCs, and you might get interesting visitors from your MSQ visiting like fellow Scions and such.
Maybe Nanamo in disguise would 'visit' and you have a small cutscenes of her chattering about life, while eating the food you prepare for her, and commenting on your aesthetics.
Instead of min/maxing to level up and unlock your content, Naoki Yoshida should use Island Sanctuary as a personal social hub to cater to players and be rewarded for it, like a sort of minigame.
Earn custom titles that is unique to how you progress your season by catering to NPCs and Players, to get commendation for your own restaurant or hotel or whatever.

I'm a veteran farming sim enthusiast, so I know -how- to min/max, but I'm opting not to. I'm sitting somewhere in the middle ground and that's comfortable for me. I do my chores, do a bit of gathering, say hi to my minions, then go do other things in the game. If someone calls out a rare spawn, then I'll pop over and grab that, but I don't spend hours and hours and hours trying to do all the things ASAP. Me on island sanctuary: completed intro quests? yes, ok, cool *leaves it alone*
Wish that there was an easy way to come and go from and to the island. Yes, I know I can teleport to the port talk to the npc and get into my island.... too many steps and bothersome, just let me teleport in, haha.
The island has this problem of having people to have "goals" into the island (aka levels, unlocks and quests). IMO, if you have the option to do (or not) things in the island, the quest of "making your perfect island" should not not need you do to SOMETHING.
The mamet should have this interaction where it asks what it can do for you:
Want to make a house? Give a list of mats you need.
Want a garden? Here, some seeds, you can plant them.
And so on... The levels and unlocks with levels feels... Like something I wish I just could toggle off. I like the wild looking island. Maybe if you could just explore it and discover things within (like minecraft, just no monster pls) Find a cave? Cool, let's see what's in there, maybe toss a random glam or plans for you to build something for your island. Not just mindlesly farming things to force the level up of your island to unlock other things.

  • @UmatsuObossa

My only complaint is how quickly the value of a handicraft declines. You can make something only 3 times a day (once per workshop) and it'll go from nonexistent stock to "surplus" before the season is over, and with MOST items beginning at sufficient stock, you're no looking at a lot of good options to switch to instead. Also rarer materials costing cowries but no assurance you'll get anything, and those materials not able to be brought in sufficient numbers for a season on handicraft making

I feel like people are still comparing this to housing or Animal Crossing when Yoshi-P and his team said multiple times not to compare to those contents. I think a more accurate comparison is the restoration content like Domon Enclave and Firmament with exploratory dungeon element like Diadem, but with more customization. If you compare it to that, I feel it is a huge improvement compare to those content as those ones are a lot more time gated and for the Firmament people would spent a lot more time grinding just to reach the top percentage of the server or try to get the achievement minion and mount.

I can't use it to buy seeds, to send out expeditions... to do anything ON the island... just seafariers all the way down. What I want is, for the buying of seeds and paying of Mammets to take Islanders, while buildings and whatnot take Seafairers it seems to make sense, that way at least to me.

  • @SRFAA
    @SRFAA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I've been spending more time than I will admit on my Island Sanctuary, and the only thing that I can really get is people buying a piece of armour with their cowries and being unable to do much until the weekly reset because of how much of the currency they've now used and are unable to get refunded. Had I not known about that mistake people were making I would be pretty far behind where I'm currently at.
Outside of that issue, that's only really present in the first week when you're new to it, you can spend a significant amount of time on the island without worrying much about the "timegating" unless you're doing optimal 4-5 hour gathering/crafting grinding. Right now I'm just waiting for my workshops to finish crafting a few items for exporting, and I'll be done expanding. This is the first time I've really had to wait a significant period of time (12 hours).

I have enjoyed playing efficiently. But I'm not looking it up or anything. I'm looking through my lists and going "Okay so in 24 hours how can I fit these... Three Four hours and two six hours? Four six hours? Three eight? Two Four and two Eight? Oh but I should start with a 4 hour because that's less time wasted not getting an efficiency bonus..." and then playing around with what my options are with what animals I have, what I can get, how I can try to squeeze the biggest things in... The efficiency puzzle is one I am content to never perfect, but continuously improve upon, and that's what's fun to me about it. I'm not rushing it to level 10 and being done with it or anything.
I'm not making Spreadsheets, optimizing farming routes (I just kinda find the spot that has the cluster of what I'm after and run around there for a while, there's always one for everything it seems) and just... Enjoying myself. So I'm not super casual about it, but I'm not super hardcore either. These kinds of numbers games are fun to me, so of course I'm going to try to figure it all out. But also, having a variety for flavour's sake is nice too. I'll not put all 3 workshops on the same orders. They're all different, every time.
It's fun. I can optimize all I want, but I know that if I am not playing perfect, it doesn't matter at all. I'll get it all eventually. It's all good!
For the people that are unhappy with the fact that the puzzle has been solved, it doesn't mean you need to look up the solution yourself. If you can't resist the temptation to have someone figure it all out for you, that's a you problem. If you can't handle that someone is making more than you because they opted to have someone solve it for them (or were the ones that solved it the most efficiently themselves), that's a you problem. There's no leaderboards, no rush, nothing. You reap the benefits and the dissatisfactions of comparing yourself upwards. It's a mindset you need to conquer on your own, or submit to. It's not anyone else's responsibility to tailor their lives around your mindset.

  • @foomp

I was looking at the complexity of bothering to min/max the workshops. I probably would have done that if I were younger, but fuck that now. There is the urge to overly optimize but... no, just fucking no lol. I waste so many hours doing that in general, be it in this game, in FFXI (especially FFXI), and other things. I hate it so much when I think back on how wasted my days are when doing that. The fact that the way this content works is in relation to you, rather than others, it's perfect to work on taking that step back.
The rares are one thing, but it's just a one off for most people. I'm sad that I was there when the Alligator showed up, but don't have access to large creatures yet, but I'll have more opportunities later. Only Rank/level 7 right now for the island and given how much exp is needed to reach 8, it'll probably be a while.
I do however love how uninvolved a lot of the content is. Even the creatures are quick to get to happier moods, which makes getting rid of them so much less stressful to make the decision to release them if you ever feel a need to mass produce certain mats.

I'm loving my Island - about to check on it now. I checked out your guide on it and had to laugh because I made some of the mistakes mentioned. (I bought the chocobo barding. I had an idea at the time I probably shouldn't but ---)
I always have the "messy" character when I play a game. That is the one I dive into the game with head first, knowing absolutely nothing about anything. So, I learn as I go. I might get tips from friends or get stuck and ask for advice, but I am far from optimal. My main in the game is my "Messy" character.
Secondary characters tend to be more focused. I am not going to spend another thousand + hours with them, so they serve some role or purpose my main lacks. Maybe I want them to fly through the MSQ. I did something like that with Stardew Valley. My "main" did everything, my other characters are all that - characters. Chrono from Chrono Trigger, Mettaton from Undertale, Link from the Legend of Zelda. Knowing the game as I do now, I have very specific ways I play them all. Mettaton is after attention and supports the Jojamart and seeking to automate my farm as much as possible, while Link accepts any and all help wanted requests and I spend more time in the dungeons with him, etc.
Ok, back to the point: I'm a middle grounder. I go in, play on my island, and learn as I go. I don't have any spread sheets before me. I may ask about it if there's some rare I must have, but otherwise I'm perfectly content to chill on the island while waiting for a queue to pop, but there are soooo many things I could do in game. There is more Triple Triad I've yet to earn. Dungeon gear to loot. The Island will be waiting for me when I get back. (Seriously, Tataru, why Capitalism is my weakness!)

It's really frustrating for me when I need 15 pieces of an item and I have to look around to get it even though they're clustered in one area it's still easy for me to get lost when I just look away for a moment. They say we don't need DoH and DoL skills to enjoy the island. But top crafters are asking millions for a "pool" to put on our sanctuary.

My only complaint is that there isn't an upgrade to make a proper dock. What kinda piss poor island owner would I be, selling my products if all I have is a tiny boat to get to and from my island. Sqeenix, let us make a functioning dock, please.

It just goes from Island Sanctuary to Tropico 14: Presidente of Light

Not even talking about the sanctuary, when it comes to melds the formulas are so convoluted that you either studied math at a college or you are better off asking someone who knows what to meld.

now that I finished everything on the island, I really like the gameplay loop of collecting my crops, feeding the animals and stuff and setting up the workshop schedule. It's not like you get rank 10 and completely abandon the content.

It's not the optimizers that bug me, it's the people who rushed to rank 8 on day one (HOW????) and then complained that there was nothing to do and how this was ruining their gaming experience and wasting their sub time. Like, I'm sorry--what did you do before Island Sanctuary came out? Go do that!

At first I wanted to reach rank10 on the first week so I could start saving for those mounts but after seeing that I could get around 8k cowries in a week without even optimizing the workshop, I stopped rushing and just set my agendas for this week, gathered the materials and will probably visit it to feed the animals, gather leavings and crops.

I’ve done exactly this. Just set my workshops for the rest of the week, and have paid the mammets to look after the crops and animals, and I’ll come back every so often

I don't understand the rushing since it doesn't affect raiding at all. I guess some people just have that mentality of "I must complete it asap."

seems to me that the people complaining about time gating in island sanctuary don't seem to be familiar with games like Stardew Valley or even the earlier Animal Crossing games like Wild World, and therefore are also not quite familiar with how those kinds of playstyles are supposed to work

its like in alliance raids when everyone is sprinting between pulls, personally id rp walk the whole dungeon if it wasn't considered griefing. But i save my sprint for combat.

Always the same problem. People who are happy if they can play game 3h per day, and people who spend 12 hours every day and complain there's not enough content. I think there's a lot of content, both in the game, and also.... in the real life :P
I am pretty sure those people have also BIG problem with 2 days of mammets resting, geez... xd

In general I don't accept time-gating in core mechanics when it comes to games I pay for. But while FFXIV does have some time-gates in it, I'm okay with them because there's SO MUCH else to do! I've been playing for years and there's still things I haven't done yet and it's not because the game time-gated me, real life did. XD
And there is validness in putting in brakes in content to help people avoid consuming it to unhealthy degrees. I'm fine with being slowed down so that others, who can't on their own, will have a healthier relationship with the game.

My current issue is with the raiding scene.. The patch dropped and I can't play on launch day because of my work schedule, but come the weekend I went through the story to unlocked the trial and make sure I unlocked the raids as well.. then I went to party finder to find a group to try the new trial on extreme... But what did I find? Every single description as follows:
Using strat "HANDJUDDBCHDBDJDHDB" FARM PLAYERS ONLY!
I have no clue what any of those acronyms were, and this is for a trial that had been out less than 3 days at that point... Not a single first-timer, prog, new player friendly run. AFTER 3 DAYS!!! I really wanted to make my own gear this time so that my name was on it and I do have an omnicrafter, but good grief I couldn't even gear my character fast enough to have all the strats of the end game stuff mastered!! And now this week was Savage dropping I'm sure when I go to look at the party finder this week it's going to be much the same thing, elite players only... The day the patch dropped for Savage I had people posting their parses in our FC's discord... So I guess if you're not there day one you're just SOL..

Island Sanctuary is like Animal Crossing for me. I'm enjoying it so much. Every time I'm done with my things on the island, I just get out and continuing doing my MSQ.

Time gating is a fundamental to the longevity of any MMo... People are coming into this genre these days with a gimme gimme attitude, literally any mmo bar anything released in the recent 5 years is built on content that you cannot complete in a day and turn it off.
What would the waitings be on queuing any sort of dungeon/raid if everybody could grind out there tome gear and raid drops in a day???? There is already a hurdle to cross with longer queue times when playing catch up on not-so-much older content. I know this is of little relevance to the islands themselves but its the same topic and attitude problem have with tomes.
