Been a console gamer since the Sega Megadrive. Yes, I'm that old.😁playstation Vr cable and power supply mess and its controllers put me off them. As for xbox? I think their marketing dept are seriously nuts not doing Vr. Oculus has so much of a market lead right now I seriously doubt xbox/playstation will be competitive against them in that vr dept. Vr was what got me to ditch consoles and buy myself a gaming desktop and quest 2.😁cable free and pcvr, and unlike dedicated pcvr headsets if my new pc ever breaks I have quest to use in the mean time. The money saved getting a quest over a vive index ment I could buy several vr titles.
CAS and FSR are two completely different technologies. FidelityFX Super Resolution actively lowers internal resolution AUTOMATICALLY then upscales it and relies on the game's Temporal Anti Aliasing or MSAA. FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening only sharpens the CURRENT resolution that you set it at. So you would have to manually set your internal game resolution to something like 720p and use CAS at 50-70% to get similar image quality to 1080p or around that resolution or even set it up to where Dynamic Resolution Scaling is accompanied by CAS. Yes, they are part of the FidelityFX SDK, but they are absolutely not the same. It's like saying FidelityFX CACAO and FidelityFX Variable Shading are the same as FSR and CAS. They are all very different technologies. FidelityFX is a suite of tech, and they all deserve to be addressed properly.
This. CAS is implemented but not the upscaling which reduces the visual compression. BUT guy godin says hes looking into implementing FSR into the quest and this would be freaking Amazing if this works.

I'm pretty excited about VD's update. Although I agree the RE4 thing is a dirty move, the flip side is that the Quest 2 is clearly capable of being pushed so much further with its increased spec over the Quest 1. Keep up the awesome work mate 👍🏻

U made a good choice re4 is a quest 2 exclusive and there's not really any crazy good games like re4, I just got a quest 2 ad well for re4 and I tried some other games but nothing comes close to quality and content of re4 most games just feels like short demos. I hope more full ported games get ported to vr in the future
False: RE4 experienced slowdowns at the castle on Quest 1. Also, no one has gotten a legitimate version of RE4 working fully on it. Titles have to be able to run entirely to be added to the official store. Not saying that it was not exclusive to promote the Quest 2, but it was not the sole reason.
Yeah, reminds me of when the devs said you need a gtx 1080 to play Hellblade VR but I was able to run it “fine” on my gtx 1060............ until I got to the boss battle when the entire building is burning around you with embers floating through the air and the frame rate tanked to an unplayable mess around 15fps. It looked like it was in jittery slow mo. Just because you can launch and play the game doesn’t mean much. 100% of it has to run well to get an official release on the older hardware (unless you’re Cyberpunk).

Works perfect for a lot of people on reddit but now people in the comments are coming out saying it's crashing on them. Looks like it could be like quest updates, hit or miss.
About RE4 on Quest 1, we still don't know how it runs in the long term. Does it maintain a rock solid frame rate in the later areas? So we don't know if Oculus was lying. Maybe the Quest 1 can handle *parts* of RE4 but not the whole game. Need impressions from those who completed the entire game on Quest 1.

The license for RE4 likely requires payment to Capcom for each platform. Capcom is going to see Quest 1 and 2 like the Playstation 4 and 5, two different systems with licensing required for both. RE4 likely won't come out for PC or Quest for that reason. They can't justify the cost of the license based on potential sales.

The video timestamps don't quite line up with the topics. I found myself skipping to a section i was interested in and having to skip back a little bit to get context. Im a regular viewer at this point, love the content but I think for news vids, super snappy topic changes are important!
FSR isn't FidelityFX. It's using CAS, which is purely a sharpening filter. No algorithms that try and upscale it, just one that tries not to over-sharpen it.
it's the same with the google play store and some phones that are not listed as compatible with the app (which prevents you to download form the store) while it runs flawlessly on a lot of these devices
Tested the resident evil 4 on the quest 1, also used diagnostic software but on quest 1 it runs half the fps then the quest 2 and also only at 72Hz, so the experience isn't as enjoyable.
I expect the Aero won't sell as well as they expected due to the audio situation; the placement of the plug and the absence of a built-in mic, makes it seem like gaming with it's fast-paced motions in all directions and added emphasis in being immersed in a different world, as well as the social aspect, was just an after-thought for them. I worry they might misinterpret the reduced interest as signifying that it's not worth investing in getting gamers as their customers; without realizing it's their own fault it won't meet expectations because they half-assed it.
HP Reverb G2 might be a good option. It has very good resolution, decent fov, reasonable price, and they just updated their hardware to improve tracking. This is the headset I would buy if I were in the market for a wired pcvr hmd. Wireless is important to me, so I’m waiting for a new standalone to launch.
You asked for corrections so here you go. The Xbox DOESN'T run a modified version of windows. It runs Virtual Machines with an underlying hyperVisor. It's more like VMware ESX than Windows. It is true that some of the VMs maybe modified windows versions but even that is unlikely since Windows has a lot of overhead in the resource department. I suspect folks think it's running a modified windows version because they tried to mimic the Windows 8 UI on the box. But it's NOT running windows at all.
Is it worth it...? I have a cv1 and I'm really skeptical. Honestly if I get another console I feel obligated to get rid of quite a few of the others... feels greedy to have so many ways to play.
FYI; FidelityFX does not equal FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution). FSR is just a part of the FidelityFX toolkit (much like Contrast Adaptive Sharpening which is what has been added to Virtual Desktop, not FSR) Just to clear up confusion, this will improve the compression artifacts but there is no implementation of any upscaling tech similar to DLSS.
Hi, I've had the fortunate pleasure of touring Microsoft's facility in Seattle and it's not that they aren't interested in VR it's that they're far more interested in AR for business purposes as opposed to something for the regular consumer. Microsoft has dumped A LOT of money into OpenXR for this purpose and as VR matures I can see the Xbox division over at Microsoft implementing AR as opposed to VR for a first party title. I don't expect this to happen this console generation though as the next model of Microsoft's AR goggle was still big and bulky.
Even if the game works on the quest1, that doesn't mean it runs how it's meant to be (fps, battery life overall stability). There's quite a big performance differences between snapdragon 835 and XR2. By starting to make games that are only supported on the Quest 2 we're going to see more and more games that would not be possible if they were sticking with the older hardware. I'm convinced that this limitation (quest 2 only games) will be only for a few AAA mobile vr games since most vr developers won't want to lose potential sales by being limited to one platform. I raise my glass to the re4 developers for their amazing work on optimizing this game, this is truly a impressive achievement!
Are you aware that some people still haven't received 120hz on the Quest 2 even on the latest update, including me? I reached out to Oculus support months ago and they told me that the feature is still being rolled out. Months after I'm starting to think they're intentionally not giving it to an unlucky 5% of Quest owners to compare the performance of the device with and without 120hz as an option.
I have my Quest 1 for the same reason, would extracting the .apk from my wifes Quest 2 and installing onto my Quest 1 work? I bought it but on her headset.
I have a wierd experience with Virtual Desktop ... it never hits tha max fps ... when its set to 90hz, it hovers just over 80fps, and when its set to 120hz, it hovers just over 100fps, every other setting is the same ... so AirLink is my prefered option of PCVR
"lets say your smartphone is stuck on... android 7, or 8." yup thats me, with my galaxy s6 i have used custom roms before (floydROM note8 port, lineage os, stock android, stock samsung os and stuff) but had to go back to stock samsung os, as my parents couldnt contact me when they needed me to come home when i'm out with friends (i just straight up couldnt call or recieve notifications or calls, it was annoying since the rest of the phone was usable). i liked the note8 port the most but it just didn't work properly for me. when i find a proper custom ROM that works i'll think of installing custom ROMS again.
The original name for the Xbox was the direct X box. DirectX-box. They just shortened it to xbox. The original had PC hardware, and it runs direct x. Don’t know if they kept it running though the generations, but if it is, it could run direct x games probably.
If you haven't already did some research but they had something about 4 to 5 years ago in development called Microsoft hololens amd was around 1200$ for the system but was a fully built a.r headset designed for learning in school alot easier but haven't seen or heard anything new about it
Just curious how you feel about airlink in comparison to virtual desktop. I’ve always found performance to be similar but for some reason, visually VD never looks as good. The only exception for me thus far was no mans sky, where performance was far better with VD.
I've had a VERY similar experience, airlink seems to looks way better than virtual desktop and for whatever reason No Man's Sky HATES being run on airlink, like unplayable bad but not Virtual desktop.
FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is NOT the same as FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS/FCAS). There are no performance improvements to be had here. I'm not sure why people seem to blend the two together. FidelityFX CAS is little more than a good sharpening filter, while FSR is a much more advanced filter system that is designed to restore lost detail from lower resolution content. FSR is the one that gives you a better framerate, FCAS just makes things look a little better.
@@TheMysticle I'd use visuals such as "Improve Your Quality/Clarity!" in that context. "Boost" is a synonym to "increase" in its most commonly used definition/form, and most people who read it will understand it as increasing framerate.
CAS and more likely DLSS will be in more and more games including probably the next gen of whatever comes after nintendo switch. It would be a huge miss to not also use it on VR where it's possible.

It's not exactly something you *download* more on it's on the developers of the software to implement it themselves. The program is not proprietary so it will work on NVIDIA Cards, Intel GPUs, and AMD GPUs. It's as simple as clicking the on button really if the program has it

Oculus needs to just fully support the software update for the oculus rift s so that you can freely use the rift home interface without having to airlink to the pc. But would love to see some other features come into dev, also bigger companies like Activision and etc should dev a game for the quest or rift s because the game and content from the game would be immersive and greatly detailed with performance optimization. But yet no major company has yet to jump on the oculus train why is this ??
Microsoft snubbing VR is actually really old news. They've repeatedly said they're only interested in software and games for the XB. They say VR is still stuck in niche territory. I'm a long time Samsung Odyssey plus user and thought WMR was great... Finally got a quest one about a week ago... And I'm blown away by the level of polish Oculus has in just about everything related to VR both in hardware and software... Honestly I don't think I could ever go back to tethered VR... Oh wait there is one thing I can't stand about the Oculus Quest... Those tiny controllers I hate everything about them... I feel like I'm holding a pair of empty egg shells in each hand afraid to break them and struggling to get a grip on them. WMR controllers are huge and chunky and coming from someone that has average large hands the quest controllers seem like they were made for children...
You need some controller grips my guy! I have custom 3D printed one for my Index controllers as those too are too small out of the box and I received some of *AMVR's* controller grips for my Quest a few years ago.

I thought the Aero profoundly disappointing. The fact that some people are putting a positive spin on it makes them seriously suspect in my mind. I wonder why they even bothered? Marginally better resolution than much cheaper headsets, lower refresh rate and narrower field of view than much cheaper headsets. But the big sin in my mind is the LCD screen.
i wonder how many PS5 exclusives or XBSX exclusives could have ran fine on their predecessor... its not new bro, exclusives exist its just a telling sign that VR is finally getting somewhere considering no company would lock a game to 1 headset if it meant they'd make a loss

Tested the resident evil 4 on the quest 1, also used diagnostic software but on quest 1 it runs half the fps then the quest 2 and also only at 72Hz, so the experience isn't as enjoyable.
I expect the Aero won't sell as well as they expected due to the audio situation; the placement of the plug and the absence of a built-in mic, makes it seem like gaming with it's fast-paced motions in all directions and added emphasis in being immersed in a different world, as well as the social aspect, was just an after-thought for them. I worry they might misinterpret the reduced interest as signifying that it's not worth investing in getting gamers as their customers; without realizing it's their own fault it won't meet expectations because they half-assed it.
Im thinking about upgrading to a pcvr headset better than quest 2 with link. But I want to stay under the price of $1000. Any ideas?
HP Reverb G2 might be a good option. It has very good resolution, decent fov, reasonable price, and they just updated their hardware to improve tracking. This is the headset I would buy if I were in the market for a wired pcvr hmd. Wireless is important to me, so I’m waiting for a new standalone to launch.
You asked for corrections so here you go. The Xbox DOESN'T run a modified version of windows. It runs Virtual Machines with an underlying hyperVisor. It's more like VMware ESX than Windows. It is true that some of the VMs maybe modified windows versions but even that is unlikely since Windows has a lot of overhead in the resource department. I suspect folks think it's running a modified windows version because they tried to mimic the Windows 8 UI on the box. But it's NOT running windows at all.

I have a lot of stutter in Virtual Desktop after the new update, I am currently using Air Link, more stable and tbh more simple to use.

FYI; FidelityFX does not equal FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution). FSR is just a part of the FidelityFX toolkit (much like Contrast Adaptive Sharpening which is what has been added to Virtual Desktop, not FSR)
Just to clear up confusion, this will improve the compression artifacts but there is no implementation of any upscaling tech similar to DLSS.

Hi, I've had the fortunate pleasure of touring Microsoft's facility in Seattle and it's not that they aren't interested in VR it's that they're far more interested in AR for business purposes as opposed to something for the regular consumer. Microsoft has dumped A LOT of money into OpenXR for this purpose and as VR matures I can see the Xbox division over at Microsoft implementing AR as opposed to VR for a first party title. I don't expect this to happen this console generation though as the next model of Microsoft's AR goggle was still big and bulky.

Even if the game works on the quest1, that doesn't mean it runs how it's meant to be (fps, battery life overall stability). There's quite a big performance differences between snapdragon 835 and XR2. By starting to make games that are only supported on the Quest 2 we're going to see more and more games that would not be possible if they were sticking with the older hardware. I'm convinced that this limitation (quest 2 only games) will be only for a few AAA mobile vr games since most vr developers won't want to lose potential sales by being limited to one platform. I raise my glass to the re4 developers for their amazing work on optimizing this game, this is truly a impressive achievement!

Are you aware that some people still haven't received 120hz on the Quest 2 even on the latest update, including me? I reached out to Oculus support months ago and they told me that the feature is still being rolled out. Months after I'm starting to think they're intentionally not giving it to an unlucky 5% of Quest owners to compare the performance of the device with and without 120hz as an option.

That virtual desktop sharpener is nice when it works, but I find it breaks certain scenes in VRChat, creating a lot of visual garbage.

I have a wierd experience with Virtual Desktop ... it never hits tha max fps ... when its set to 90hz, it hovers just over 80fps, and when its set to 120hz, it hovers just over 100fps, every other setting is the same ... so AirLink is my prefered option of PCVR

i have used custom roms before (floydROM note8 port, lineage os, stock android, stock samsung os and stuff) but had to go back to stock samsung os, as my parents couldnt contact me when they needed me to come home when i'm out with friends (i just straight up couldnt call or recieve notifications or calls, it was annoying since the rest of the phone was usable). i liked the note8 port the most but it just didn't work properly for me. when i find a proper custom ROM that works i'll think of installing custom ROMS again.

The original name for the Xbox was the direct X box. DirectX-box. They just shortened it to xbox. The original had PC hardware, and it runs direct x. Don’t know if they kept it running though the generations, but if it is, it could run direct x games probably.

If you haven't already did some research but they had something about 4 to 5 years ago in development called Microsoft hololens amd was around 1200$ for the system but was a fully built a.r headset designed for learning in school alot easier but haven't seen or heard anything new about it
my problem with the aero is the fact that its 2k price
, no controllers and no base stations (witch are required).
It does not run perfectly…. When it rains it crashes, too many explosions or fire crashes…. I tried it on OG Q1 the frame rate is NOT good.

The answer to the question is yes... PCVR can only be played if you have a PC whether it be a physical PC machine or a virtual one such as Shadow PC.
The Varjo is a step in the right direction but still a half mesure.
Just curious how you feel about airlink in comparison to virtual desktop. I’ve always found performance to be similar but for some reason, visually VD never looks as good. The only exception for me thus far was no mans sky, where performance was far better with VD.
I've had a VERY similar experience, airlink seems to looks way better than virtual desktop and for whatever reason No Man's Sky HATES being run on airlink, like unplayable bad but not Virtual desktop.

FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is NOT the same as FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS/FCAS). There are no performance improvements to be had here.
I'm not sure why people seem to blend the two together.
FidelityFX CAS is little more than a good sharpening filter, while FSR is a much more advanced filter system that is designed to restore lost detail from lower resolution content. FSR is the one that gives you a better framerate, FCAS just makes things look a little better.
If you're referring to the thumbnail boost can also mean to make better. Which is exactly what this does, it makes them look better.

"Boost" is a synonym to "increase" in its most commonly used definition/form, and most people who read it will understand it as increasing framerate.

CAS and more likely DLSS will be in more and more games including probably the next gen of whatever comes after nintendo switch. It would be a huge miss to not also use it on VR where it's possible.

It's not exactly something you *download* more on it's on the developers of the software to implement it themselves. The program is not proprietary so it will work on NVIDIA Cards, Intel GPUs, and AMD GPUs. It's as simple as clicking the on button really if the program has it

Oculus needs to just fully support the software update for the oculus rift s so that you can freely use the rift home interface without having to airlink to the pc. But would love to see some other features come into dev, also bigger companies like Activision and etc should dev a game for the quest or rift s because the game and content from the game would be immersive and greatly detailed with performance optimization. But yet no major company has yet to jump on the oculus train why is this ??

I'm a long time Samsung Odyssey plus user and thought WMR was great... Finally got a quest one about a week ago... And I'm blown away by the level of polish Oculus has in just about everything related to VR both in hardware and software... Honestly I don't think I could ever go back to tethered VR...
Oh wait there is one thing I can't stand about the Oculus Quest... Those tiny controllers I hate everything about them... I feel like I'm holding a pair of empty egg shells in each hand afraid to break them and struggling to get a grip on them.
WMR controllers are huge and chunky and coming from someone that has average large hands the quest controllers seem like they were made for children...
You need some controller grips my guy! I have custom 3D printed one for my Index controllers as those too are too small out of the box and I received some of *AMVR's* controller grips for my Quest a few years ago.

Marginally better resolution than much cheaper headsets, lower refresh rate and narrower field of view than much cheaper headsets.
But the big sin in my mind is the LCD screen.
