      Irish people are british but not english. Ireland is on the Britsh Isles.
      Some austrians even claim they are german. I am not one of those, but I know some.
      I felt often offended when people asked me if I was german, but now I know they don´t know better.
      Forgive them; for they know not what they do.

      @@greenhead96 My impression is that Austrians are very welcoming and tolerant if you respect their culture and nationhood. As a matter of fact, they seem to be almost too welcoming these days considering that it is currently fashionable to abuse hospitality of nations that agree to take you in. As a neighbor of theirs I can attest that they can get a bit snobbish occasionally, but overall they are quite kind hearted and ready to admit their faults (their innate sense of self-deprecating humor is what culturally elevates them miles high from average german).

    “Austria decided that they wanted to become a neutral country...”
    That’s not really true. Austria became neutral because that’s what the Allied Occupation set as a condition to become free again.
    Although, if asked today most Austrians would probably say they want to stay neutral

    • @gnackwatschn8700
      @gnackwatschn8700 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Russians refused to give Austria the independence, as due to it's geographical position, it was splitting the NATO Territory (Germany and Italy) and Russia was afraid Austria becomes part of the NATO. So Prime minister Figl negotiated with the Russians about a neutral status of Austria and the other Allied forces agreed because Austria declared furthermore to be an independent and democratic Republic. This was the way out of occupation and Austria got it's state treaty, in which Austria declared itself permanently neutral after the enactment of the treaty

    • @valentintapata2268

      Valentin Tapata what the fuck are you talking about? ever minority has rights in austria. even the tiny burgenlandkroaten which only number in the 1000s. and unlike the rest of the east that purged, murdered, raped and threw austrians/germans out.

      1. On paper it was ok, otherwise? Not so much... Jörg Haider, non-dual town signs,... But it is true, that now is better.
      2. Well, lets look at history little better, How many nations and country's were destroyed by German people? most of Austria (Tirol was Bavarian) was more or less peacefully settled by Slavs (after the Germanic tribes moved west and south west), Bavarian's, Franks and later Germans conquered, enslaved and assimilated people there. You were the British (violent colonisers) of the Middle Europe.

    • @konplayz
      @konplayz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Valentin Tapata Jesus christ? What was that 1000 years ago? There is no difference if Tyrol was Bavarian or not all are German people. And if you really want to fuck with me, Slavic people migrating and kicked the Celtics out of Noricum waaha waah

      racism in austria is different to the racism in america. is not white against black. we have always been a country with lots of different people. the country is so small that we can make a weekend trip into a bordering one. austrian racism is more of a cultural racism. we do have a lot of refugees, who are used to vastly different cultures. so you as american are not that different and should have no problem. just keep in mind we are friendly but reserved (especially the older generation). so if we dont talk in queues its nothing against you. ;)

    Even if they are more than 15 years old, I don´t know how they can´t know Austria. I mean every country has schools where you learn something about history.

      @hkistreet Americans (USA) can name all music rap artists, the Kardashian family, and comedy movies that include farting, but can't name the huge country to the north of them! Most can't figure out that Austria is not the same as Australia.
      They have the most severe opinions about all things, Adolf Hitler, for instance, when they know piss all about him or even how to pronounce or spell Adolf. They pronounce it as AYE DOLF... It is Ah dolf, dummies.
      Glad I live in the huge country to the north of them where more of us were awake in school. Obviously this does not encompass ALL Americans, but enough that the education system should be ashamed.

  • @klaudiawithak3695

    as an Austrian I'm really proud of this video. It gives a lot of good information on different topics - and even I didn't know that Schönbrunn was the oldest zoo in the world. Maybe in addition to this video I want to mention the city Salzburg, were Mozart was born, it's also really beautiful and has just an amazing vibe to it. When it comes to cities Austria seems to be really creative: if you look at the center of Vienna you have all the old buildings which attract all the tourist but the further you go towards the Danube (Austrias biggest river) you will find the great tech Industry. And also I want to point out: there are more beautiful towns on a lake than Hallstatt, haha - there were a couple of drone shots of the same town in this video. I know Hallstatt is really popular because it was rebuilt in China but there are others like St. Wolfgang, Zell am See or Klagenfurt. There is just some much history in all corners of Austria and I'm so glad to be a part f it. :) btw: I only realized that after living a year in America.

    If you go to Linz, you can still see the differences between the American sector (traditional Austrian buildings) and the Soviet sector across the river (ugly Soviet style government buildings). Austria is one of the places where World War 3 could've broken out. The former American housing and military base (Froschberg) is now a large sports stadium instead.

    As a Austrian I can tell that u forgot to add a really cool tradition which is/are called "Perchten".
    Perchten are (mostly) men who wear really scary masks, fur, big bells around their waist and rods, they then run through the city and mostly hit young people with the rod, who have been bad throughout the year. They also make a lot of noise with the bell around their waist to scare away the evil spirits of the winter, which is supposed to bring good luck for the village in the new year.
    (This mostly happens around November - December in villages and cities all over Austria)
    The Origin of this is also really interesting, I think it would be very cool to see a video of that kinda stuff :)

    In my opinion, you forgot so much about austria. Vienna is scaled with the best life quality from all over the world. We have so many cultural behaviours, like the "Berchten", or very unique clothes like the "Lederhose" or "Dirndl" with are found in bavaria, too. And many other things.
    Ps: i am from Austria

    • @barbarafoldesi4121

      there is so many facts that have been forgotten and a few unimportant weird facts that have been mentioned (emerald f.i.). i'd suggest, squeeze in a little more and introduce your facts a bit shorter. not everything is ubercool and unique and great. but funny to see a video on austria which often seems to be so tiny and unimportant. you could do it for even less known countries, would be interesting. just again, more facts with less introduction of each fact to become more catchy and interesting to watch... wow. i think i've never left a comment before, i hope it's useful!

    • @MikaeruDaiTenshi
      @MikaeruDaiTenshi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of what you listed is not unique to Austria. Berchten/Perchten, Lederhosen, Dirndln are all found in bavaria (as you said), so that's not really special. And with the different languages the different cultures were kinda named.
      What may be interesting would also be the spanish riding school and their Lipizzaner. (something that's really unique)

    • @valentintapata2268
      @valentintapata2268 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lipizzaner horses come from Slovenia, from a village Lipica. Austria is basically a Slavic land conquered by Franks and assimilated by Bavrians.

    i am Algerien, Native French/Arabic speaker from a French father and an Algerien Mother, i moved to Austria last year and lived there for a year, my divorce from Austria was also My divorce from My ex wife, it was a very sad, very hard, and also scary experience for me, i wasn't expecting to be honest that my journey in Austria was going to end that way, i first moved there in the begining of 2017, i was married and my ex wife was Austrian, the first thing i have noticed was People how friendly and open they was to my differences, but if the people surrounding you doesn't know you they are so cautious and very distant, i would say this might be for two reasons, to protect their cultures as many people says about austrian but also because they do not trust alot arabic people, ( they have enough in their country i understend that and i also dont trust them ), so the first problem for me was to make friends or to meet new people, the second was to find a job if you do not have A2 Level Deutsch ( A2 German in fact there are 6 levels A1 A2 B1 B2 C1 C2 ) and when i moved first in austria i had A1 so even if i had talent in different things and i had my diplomas with me, i could not find any job better then working as a construction helper or very hard jobs that i was not used to do, this was my two mains problems and the third one was my culture was so different then the one of my ex wife and her family i could not handle all the new things and i was not able to integrate her family and we noticed that it was very difficult for me sadly my ex wife met somebody else without me knowing but i felt that distance was taking place between us i was very sad but the reality was there to remind me that it was very hard to stay there, i cameback to Algeria the cost of living here is less expensive but i would comeback to Austria one day for a visit. its a beautiful country worth visiting, that was my Austrian experience. Bonne journee

    i would love it, if you could include some facts about the eastern part of Austria in a part 2. we not only have the alps and vienna, but also the amazing 'flat' parts, like the Burgenland (northern Burgenland with the Neusiedlersee which has such an amazing nature around it) and the Südoststeiermark and the southern Burgenland with a lot of thermal baths and great red wines! :-)
    i still liked your video. it showed people from all over the world, that Austria is a great country, but it would still have been nice, if you didn't skip the not so famous not alpine parts.

    Other important facts:
    -The city Graz (second largest) has 2 "mountains" and a river.
    It also won city of design several times
    -three of the oldest schools in the world are in austria ( the "Akademisches gymnasium" in graz, vienna and salzburg. All of them are over 444 years old)
    -Old people are considered gods who must be appeased by beeing given seats in public transportation
    -there are a lot of thermal springs.
    -There are a lot of dialects
    -Austrian people are quite progessive, but still very racist and sexist compared to other first world countries
    -vienna is a "Bundesland" not only a city

      I know^^ I was making a joke since there are a lot of signs in public transportation encouraging/demanding younger people to give up their seat for those who need it.
      (Which is usually good)

      Richard Bailleul I know a lot of racist/homophobic Austrians. I mean every country has them but I feel like a lot of Austrians are still very conservative

    • @axorya5081
      @axorya5081 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Richard Bailleul i don't think that makes you racist, but there are people who legitimately have something against people from specific countries. I guess it's more xenophobia than racism.

    What happen to Salzburg? They filmed "Sound of Music" there at the Archbishop's palace. He had a story stone picnic table set up like a hidden bidet. People thought they went themselves. Baroque concert halls where Wolfy played.
    Then there,'s Innsbruck, home of a Winter Olympics
    I saw the Rolling Stones at Olympicstadt for $8 usd.
