The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

Miraak had always seemed like Darth Vader to me. He was incredibly gifted, was a "chosen one", found a new master and betrayed his kin, fought another incredibly powerful individual still loyal to his old allegience (like Obi wan), got defeated, almost died but saved by his new master, (like Palpatine saved him from Mustafar), plus his robotic voice... It seems more than a coincidence.

Excellent perception in terms of parallel lore. Miraak does have great power, able to one-shot dragons and steal their souls and power. Hell, imagine if the Dovahkin can have the same power. Hell, he'll achieve Chim in the end and become even greater than ever before.
Although in this case, Miraak died, killed by the Last Dragonborn, although the Last Dragonborn did absorb Miraak's soul. Not sure if that counts as saving the soul of Miraaka buuuut...

@@lordvader9072 That fucker Miraak just steals dragon souls when you slay them, I haven't seen him do jack shit like one shoting a dragon. Heck the Dovahkiin already has his power which was bend will, this was the shout that Miraak used to defeat/subject dragons. It is also proven that the last dragonborn is stronger than that lame ass Miraak.
Miraak was one of the few bosses in the game that really felt like a boss. Great build up over time, hearing about and seeing his power, needing the aid of special shamans and a Daedric Prince to defeat him and his boss battle was genuinely challenging at modest levels. That, and him stealing your dragon souls was a pain in the ass.
Honestly I didn't find his fight challenging, it was better than alduin and harkon though, harkon just got boring and alduin was one shot by merunes razor in my game
He didn't steal easy dragon souls in my playthrough though. He usually stole the ones like the revered dragon souls. Which keep coming up at my property in Falkreath
it's really fun when you have mods that make the fight much harder. i decided i would use a mod that did this. sure i could have used the ingame slider for difficulty. but skyrim on legendary is not hard as it is annoying as there is no variance in combat and doesn't really make it harder to fight in any battle. it just makes all npc's hit sponges there's no difficulty in a hit sponge.
instead the mod uses it's own difficulty by altering the ai package when in a fight creating so many other ways of making it a difficult fight that is quite rewarding twords the end of the fight.
so while i used this mod and fought miraak he kicked my ass and when i was about to die i was kicked out of apocrypha but not dead like you would think. basically requiring me to return to apocrypha to fight him again.
i had other mods running in the background as well like smart cast and he still defeated me, it took me 5 times of being kicked out of apocrypha to finally defeat him as my abilities were slowly upgrading during each fight.
most ppl on console thing of mods as cheats. most mods on pc are to make the game harder and more fulfilling and interesting than the vanilla game provides. someone the person who created this video had one of these mods. it would have been better if he was also using the mod that made combat more difficult instead of just playing on the highest difficulty.

Miraak definitely had a shitty build up. You only personally interact with him once or twice before fighting him, which serves no emotional attatchment to his character

I play on Legendary and never use mods against him other than the ones fixing bugs.
Or better my necromancy play through (which is useless against him). I have beaten him as Dovakhin, Vampire Lord and Werewolf.

Yet Miraak expresses surprise at the fact you are Dragonborn when you first arrive in Apocrphya. It is more likely that Mora sent the cultists to draw you and Miraak into conflict, rather than Miraak having sent them himself.
Cool theory, but it was probably still miraak. He would have no idea what the dragonborn looks like and didn't know someone was going to enter his world so probably not hermeus mora

I would love to hear some fan fiction of elder scrolls lore, sure it's kinda like milking the series but extended lore even if it's fan made is welcoming.
I also appreciate the visuals provided with the music and sounds and atmospher.
An example of a fan fiction that I read a while ago was about the dark brotherhood story except it involves the aretino boy who put out the contract to murder the old lady at the orphanage.
It was a very well written story, and needs to be shared for the enjoyment of others who love the elder scrolls.

Miraak is my favorite villain in TES, he’s really cool looking, cool sounding, and a plain badass, disappointing he had to go out at the hands of Herma Mora and not have a more deserving and badass death

Miraak is more like Magnus than Ahriman and here is why: hungry for knowledge turn against his master who send some loyal warlord punishing him, get is ass kicked by said warlord, ultimately saved by a dark knowledge god and end up trapped into another plan of existence
I honestly love it when he says "So, the First Dragonborn meets the last Dragonborn at the summit of Apocrypha."
To answer your at the end I doubt anyone really knows what they might have done where they in Miraaks position. But let’s consider everything we know about being Dragonborn to make an educated guess.
First, while one can have the Dragon Blood without the soul of a dragon one cannot be Dragonborn without said dragon soul. As that soul gives both dragons and Dragonborn alike their power.
Second, the dragon soul is as much a curse as a gift. Sure Dragonborn have the power to easily gain a dragon’s power. But with that power comes the same instinct as a dragon. The will and urge to dominate everyone and everything.
Sure the last Dragonborn might be able to resist this predilection but he/she wasn’t practically raised by dragons. Rather the Last Dragonborn was born and grew up in a world ruled by mortals. Whereas Miraak grew up in Skyrim while it was still being ruled by dragons.
Presumably Miraak was born Dragonborn, as I doubt there is any other path to becoming Dragonborn. So we can assume that he had this instinct all his life. An instinct that would likely have been reinforced during his life under the dragons.
Third, while it is true normal mortals can learn the Thu’um it still takes them years to be able to use even one Shout at its full power. But a Dragonborn can learn one full Shout without even trying.
Meaning that Miraak was probably discovered to be Dragonborn as a kid. As even as a kid he’d still have an instinctive understanding of the Thu’um. With or without killing a dragon. And likely accidentally devoured a dying dragons soul, which is probably what primarily got him discovered to be Dragonborn by his dragon master.
Thus likely leading to him being raised by the dragons high priests. In a failed attempt to more effectively indoctrinate him into worshipping their dragon masters.
In conclusion Miraak was screwed from the word go as 99.9% of time he’d become almost exactly like his more draconic brethren or worship said dragons as gods. With a 90% likelihood of the former with the 9.9% being the later. And the rest having Miraak being somewhat of a good guy.
This is where my answer comes in. 90% of the time I’d likely have done the same thing as Miraak if I was in his position. And I suspect the same can be said for everyone else.

If only it was a canon choice to save him and/or have him survive. He'd be a great character to further flesh out, maybe he'd be a great anti-hero or rival for the Dragonborn like how Vegeta was to Goku.

Miraak is one of my favorite NPCs in Skyrim, and I always felt just a little bit bad you couldn't side with him/save him in the base game.

Miraak is one of my favorite characters. His ego and pride makes me laugh. He always has flex on the Dragonborn. He has to out do him. Like when he says “you killed Alduin well done, I could’ve killed him.” But I kinda feel bad for the dude, it’s not totally his fault. A Dragonborn has the urge to dominate, to rule. He just wanted power but t his nature of Dragonborn consumed him.
I remember reading a theory about Miraak's true intent being to end the Kalpa and mantle the Dragon to become the core of the pantheon of the next Kalpic cycle. It was a very interesting theory and kind of held up.

I just want to know if Miraak pledged himself to Mora before or after he was saved from Valoth.
Honestly Miraak would have probably returned and fully enslaved Solstheim, if he didn't draw attention to himself with that first assassination attempt.
He pledged himself to Mora before his battle with Vahlok. He found a black book & traveled to Apocrypha for knowledge. This is where he met Mora & Mora gave him the bend will shout in exchange for him serving Mora. Then Miraak tried to overthrow the dragons. Vahlok defeated him & Mora saved him before Vahlok killed him. Because of Miraak near death, he was forced to serve Mora in Apocrypha instead of under his free will in Solstheim.
I think if he killed the player he would stick to hes evil ways in the cut content mod he says about undoing the chaos he did although he did try to kill the Dragonborn I believe this was a desperate move to Break Free of the evil testicles monster and realise it when you beat him where the mod comes into place joins you on your adventure

i mean the way i see it, mainquest and dlc mainquests are canon and done by the protagonist.
And Main-Sidequests like the thievesguild etc are canon but not necessarily feats of the protagonist.
so we have the next great war teased multiple times in the game by characters like tulius.
the emperor was assassinated.
we have the dragonborn that with his dragonsoul has a pretty good claim for the throne plus him being named ysmir like thalos himself
He also got the power, allied with dragons having reformed the blades, etc and himself having achieved like demigod status and prob being able to slay whole armies.
also the points above would result in more jarls, kings counts etc to maybe side with him, which would further his power even more.
if we take this whole every decision is canon approach (which would work really well with the dark brotherhood too for example, as destroying them or joining them both result in the falkreach base getting destroyed)
we could say even after winning the civil war either tulius and ulfric were slain as well at the end.
so even if in the end its not true, i feel Bethesda really lay the perfect ground work for the dragonborn to pull a thalos 2.0 just with dragons and without numidium.
TheCerbari I think the Dragonborn will follow Mirrak’s path of power.
The last Dragonborn is speculated to be the Shezarrine, or living avatar of Shor. Because of this it’s doubtful any of the Daedra lords will be able to claim his soul upon death. He’ll probably return to Sovngarde.

I'd have made similar choices as Miraak, but without betraying Herma Mora. Stay in his favour and continue acquiring more power and influence. If Skyrim was made by CDPR there'd have been an option to side with Miraak rather than Herma Mora in the end, and I'd have taken it. Miraak is my second favourite character in Skyrim (after Teldryn Sero of course) and Herma Mora is my favourite daedric prince.
Honestly one of the best boss fights I have played in any game before, felt so satisfying, the conclusion of the Dragonborn's story!

When you think of it, its possible that Hermaeus Mora only took Miraak as a convoluted plan to obtain the Skaal's secret as well as influence over the Last Dragonborn.
I think Hermaeus Mora gave the Last Dragonborn free will because the dragonborn would continue adventuring and unwitting gather more knowledge for him.
You very well could be right, i've never thought of it like that but it would make sense knowong mora, nice theory
@@BlazingBoltAeris My evidence for this idea is that as far as we know Miraak by himself never did anything to expand Mora's library.
And what we know of Mora is that when dealing with it, you are either a pawn to be discarded or sacrificed, traded, or used to obtain knowledge or set events to obtain knowledge, or a vehicle to spread influence (making opportunity for knowledge}, or a unknowing vehicle that gathers knowledge for Mora.
Conclusion: If Mora knows "everything", and only seeks expand/hoard knowledge, then everything Mora does is meant to expand/hoard knowledge. Therefore everything that leads to expanding/hoarding Mora's knowledge is part of Mora's plan.

According to a former writer of Bethesda, Alessia despite being Dragonborn did not have the ability to absorb a dragons soul.
Wait i thought that the battle between Valok and Miraak was so powerful that a island split from Skyrim and that led to Solstheim been crated and Miraak claimed Solsthein for himself
That battle was a powerful one but Vahlok defeated him & was nearly killed. So no, Miraak didn't claim Solstheim.

Then he began to serve Hermaeus Mora who granted him more powers which made him pretty much stronger than the entire order including dragons which is why he sought to overthrow his dragon overlords. At his temple alone there's at least 12 dragon skeletons. Dragon priests began to serve him also. Dragons gifted Vahlok all their power so he could defeat Miraak which he did. According to lore, it was a one on one battle. No where in it did it say that Miraak fought Vhalok and other dragon priests
@@mutualdecline2174I don't know actual story but in lore Miraak was overwhelmed right?, he already fought countless dragons before fighting Vahlok that took quite a toll on him. If I remember Vahlok is the only dragon priests without a mask, right? Then how come he can defeat Miraak singlehandedly? I sure he had help from other Dragon priests, Vahlok is also friend of Krosis
@EN19MA_627 No lore did not say he was overwhelmed. This wasn't an event that occurred in two days or something. After Miraak defeated countless dragons he began to expand his temple. He has a very large temple, that takes time to build. The dragons stopped attacking when they realized that Miraak was too strong. When the ancient Nords went to war with the dragons they asked Miraak for help, knowing that he was dragonborn & that no one could defeat him. But Miraak refused because he only wanted to rule Solstheim. The battle between Miraak & Vhalok however did last several days. Lore does not explain why Vhalok didn't have a mask with him in his temple. It's assumed that the Konahrik mask was Vhalok's since the Konahrik mask isn't found inside a dragon priest tomb
PLEASE DO A MIRAAK BUILD! You guys do such amazing build videos and I would love to see how you would do his back story. For example, Miraak kills the last dragon and is released from apocrypha and sets havoc to Solstheim.
It was one hell of a gamble by Herma Mora. If the last dragon born lost, not o ly would he have lost his new servant, but Miraak would have escaped as well

If the last dragonborn didn't die fighting him (or just hadn't fought him yet) i can see it becoming a massive war between both sides of the civil war against miraak on solthesim. It could be an interesting idea for a mod, if I'm even right to assume that's how it'd go

but yeah, i like the idea of the story continuing as an alternate ending, there is one mod though that allows the last dragonborn to use the bend will shout to bend miraaks will instead of killing him he becomes your ally and helps you defeat hermaous mora, but after that his dialogue is limited because Bethesda only gave him enough words to finish that quest and provided no alternative.
the modders can make some amazing things happen, but some things are beyond their skill and depth or what they are willing to do to make the mod that much more epic.
i for one would have liked to know the alternate endings as they could be used in other stories in the game.
like for example Bethesda wrote the ebony warrior only to serve as a challenge for the player in the late game levels and his back story was left to the imagination of a weak writer who gave ebony the dialogue "that there were no quests to be taken" or a reason for him to continue existing, while that simply wasn't the truth as the land was ripe with dragons flying around and perhaps even miraak on solsthime to fight maybe even join forces with the last dragonborn and take on miraak or the dragons for that matter, but we would need a mod to make miraak a lot more challenging.
funny enough a mod could be created quite as easy as it was to create for mirrak to join forces for ebony and the last dragonborn.
miraak should have been much harder to kill as he's been with the hoarder of knowledge for roughly 5 thousand years since he left nirn within apocrypha. of course we don't know how time moves within the oblivion realms, so to him it could have only been 5 years when the outside world moved 5 thousand years into the future.

Miraak is my only motivation to learn and use shouts. I removed shout cooldowns so I can do cool shout combos.

It seems to me that Miraak had become so powerful that Hermaeus had to use another dragonborn to defeat him. I think if we didnt exist he would have escaped him.
Mora could have killed him if he wanted to. But Mora isn't really a sadistic deadric prince like some of the others. Mora can see the past & future so he likely saw a replacement in the future that could replace Miraak as his champion.

Here's a cool build idea. The psychic build, they use the ordinator mod, due to the nature of its illusion skill tree. Also some spell mods would be good, but make sure the spells you use fit the psychic theme. So illusion, enchanting (just for the benefits), some alteration, and sneak.
I spent so much time on skyrim when first came put that I can listen to lore for years after my fav. Game ever and I played f.f 7 the day it was released and played Nintendo's Zelda and dragon warrior it has been amazing to see the technology evolve

I have a theory that Miraak is not really evil, when the dragons and dragon priests went to Skyrim almost all of them got corrupted. When Miraak sent the cultists after the Last Dragonborn, Alduin is usually defeated by then same as Harkon and every guild completed. The Last Dragonborn was probably getting a god complex and was losing compassion, and everyone was fueling it, when a Dragonborn looses compassion millions of lives are lost and they become villains, Miraak probably saw that and came up with a plan to teach Last Dragonborn to not get a god complex and loose compassion by beating up and making the Last Dragonborn angry, when you’re at the peak of apocrypha it’s not a battle between the First and Last Dragonborn but between student and teacher, the Last Dragonborn learned compassion again and learned that gods can still cry and bleed.

I know its not cannon but some of the cut content makes Miraak even more interesting like the cut "shout" Benthic Scream.
Some of what the fandom did with him and the cut dialog their theories in general are very captivating... Also finding out hes voiced by the same guy who voiced Paladin Danse.
Perhaps the seekers that you face in aporhcyha were once people who were then trapped then changed into to what they are now.

I wish after the cultists attack you it’s required to ask the greybeards about the attack seeing as how it happens after they send you off to get the horn.
Also id say miraak is actually playing it smart, instead of Alduin avoiding the Dragonborn due to arrogancy and thinking that he’ll have a “fun” fight and kill the Dragonborn, miraak knows of the Dragonborns power, and attempts to have him killed before he can get stronger.
I feel like Miraak should have been the main antagonist of the vanilla story instead of Alduin. Alduin is cool but it's a lot less compelling to have a story about a dragon who wants to eat the world than a thousands year old man who had a twisted desire of power and knowledge. Also Miraak has better antagonism, see how he's often brought out, by either making you work for him when you fall asleep or stealing your dragon souls, while you're stuck not seeing Alduin most of the game because he had no more interactions than ominously attacking you once then resurrecting dragons. Ultimately Alduin should have been saved for the final DLC and Miraak should have had the ressources of the main story. He would probably be known as the best TES antagonist to this day, maybe even a staple in RPG antagonists

As someone who’s new to elder scrolls/skyrim lore. I of corse immediately go to and try to figure out the most powerful character/final boss without learning anything else.
