The Vasai-Panvel local line was part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) 3A, aimed at enhancing the suburban railway network in Mumbai. However, the project was canceled by the Ministry of Railways due to financial constraints and budgetary reallocations. The Vasai-Panvel corridor was intended to provide better connectivity between the western and central suburban areas of Mumbai, easing the load on existing railway lines and facilitating smoother travel for commuters.
The decision to cancel the Vasai-Panvel local line, along with other rail projects under MUTP 3A, has been met with disappointment by local residents and stakeholders. Ever since I was a child, I wondered why isn't there a Virar-Panvel local. Like if a Dahanu - Panvel MEMU is possible, this should've happened in 2000s

NITI ayog has been saying some crazy things of late. Arguing that income based poverty index is better than MPI. Cancelling rail based projects everywhere but giving go ahead to highways. The hell??

I'm from Bhiwandi & travelling from here is a headache coz trains r limited 3 to Panvel, 5 towards diva and 8 locals towards vasai in a day only. Travelling through buses is also the next level of pain in @##. Coz of Kalher kasheli traffic, Mankoli traffic. I really don't understand what exactly Bhiwandi Nizampura Mahanagar palika is doing with this thing.

@PowerTrain , train between vasai - panvel and Vasai - Diva runs on daily basis. its just that frequency of trains is very low. the frequency is after every 2-3 hours. last train from vasai which leaves to panvel is at 4.45 pm every day. just wanted to highlight this and aware our viewers.
He never said there is no railway line. He said that a local line is needed. I have extensively travelled between Panvel and Virar from 2013 to 2018 and in my experience, the frequency, timing and speed of the MEMU is horrible. You have to plan your day according to the train as the travel takes up half your day. The MEMU stops for 30-40 mins at random points to let other trains cross taking the total journey time to around 2.5 hours. The timing is 9.30, 14.30 & 19.00 from Panvel and 7.00, 12.30 & 17.00. This is pathetic that you have to waste half a day and most of the times, travelling through Mumbai is more practical which increases the load on Western and Central lines.
Yeah still only slow trains runs between Panvel and CSMT which takes 1 hour 30 minutes. One can easily travel round trip between Churchgate and Borivali in that time 😑😑
Central government is focusing on shifting financial capital to other cities there are numbers of incidents we can find that central government is making hurdle in progress of mumbai city

1. No slow train towards Virar. Isliye log main stations (Bandra, Andheri etc..) me aake udhar bheed bada dete hai..
2. Fast train not stopping at Goregaon. Goregaon bhi ek main area hai jaha pe fast train rukna chahiye aur ye WR pata nhi q Central aur Churchgate k bich me fast train ko slow Bana dete hai..
3. Not enough trains beyond Borivali. Daily Churchgate se Bandra tak approx 20 train hai, Churchgate se Andheri tak approx 40 train hai, Churchgate se Goregaon tak 70+ trains hai aur Churchgate se Borivali tak 250+ trains hai lekin WR ko ye nhi malum ki majority log Borivali k aage rehta hai. Bhayandar k lie approx 10 train hai, Vasai k lie 10 hai aur Virar k liye about 100 train hai. This is the main issue, too much Borivali trains. And by the way, Dahanu k liye literally 4-5 train hi hai..
4. Underutilize of Dadar pf 5. Dadar is the most crowded because of western line central line intersection isliye Dadar to Virar locals ki frequency badhana chiye..
5. Less Frequency of double fast train. Virar ka most of train fast hoti hai (slow after Borivali) aur bhot kam gadi hai jo double fast hai (stops only at Bhayandar, Vasai & Virar after Borivali)
6. Punctuality of train. Patri ki bhot zada Kami hai express train fast train k patri me chalta hai isliye fast train ko deliberately late Kiya jata hai aur agar fast train zada late hogya toh usko slow train k patri me chalaya jata hai jisse slow train bhi late ho jata hai...
That's why I said locals are anyday better than metros but are not managed properly..

No one will sit in a metro. To reach csmt from virar of badlapur. As journey will be long and costly too 3 hours approx. Whereas local train helps you to reach in 1 hour 30 mins. Max. There is no real need to create new tracks between Vasai and Diva as dual tracks already exist which are used by freight and passenger trains. What is needed is to run local trains on those tracks which will really benefit the travellers .There is a way but the will is lacking.
Having local Trains from Virar Vasai Panvel can help a lot of passengers , especially those who want to catch the Konkan railway trains from Panvel. They now have to go all the way to cst to catch the same train.
