    As a Namibian I see nothing wrong with this. Namibia and Botswana are tired of corrupt South Africa and waiting 4 weeks due to South African port delays and we are also tired of relying on South Africa for food and other goods. We want to setup our own farms and industries. That is why Namibia and Botswana is strengthening ties so that both countries can reduce their reliance on South Africa. After Namibia upgrades their ports, Botswana and Namibia's other neighbors can use Namibian ports which are much more efficient than South African ports.

    I really don’t understand the noises about some fruits from these guys. SA exports millions of other products to both Botswana and Namibia. Quit whining about some fruits, food security is very critical for any country and it’s the sole responsibility of each country to ensure its food security.

      With due respect, every leader should think of his people first. For one importing what can be produced locally is the exportation of jobs and money. A country that just consumes without production is bound to run into trouble. Unemployment is high in Botswana and the ban has helped a lot of batswana who have ventured into farming.
      So really, if the ban is lifted, then don't complain or put up resident and work permit regulations for them. Fruit and veggies ban is a miniscule part on the trade that lopsidedly favours South Africa.

    Biosecurity : In Botswana we have what's called cattle cut lines that divides the country into districts and thus effectively restrict animal(mostly cloven hooved ) such as buffallo which are known to host the FMD virus.Thus we can have an FMD outbreak in Ngamiland and not have it in Gantsi district which is adjacent thanks to animal prohibition movement by these fences.Consequently, some parts of the Botswana where there is no FMD,bufallos aren't allowed to be there,whether just roaming or on private game farms. South Africa and other countries do not have these dividing fences,hence you can find a buffalo in NorthWest,Limpopo or even LowVeld .This therefore locks out SA out of EU beef market.
    Vegetable Ban :
    here is an except fromSACU website ;
    "
    The following were the key features of the SACU Agreement of 1969:
    d)a provision for infant industry protection to meet competition from other producers or manufacturers in the Customs Union, which would encourage diversifying growth through industrialisation.

      Namibia is more democratic and better managed than politically chaotic South Africa. For own information Namibia is doing well in all African barometers because it is found in the top ten ranking. By the way Namibia will never be your province again. NEVER!!!!
