We are multicultural and most folks are fine ok but you know since some from countries we brought here as refugees well its reason. I might add it was a Pastor African resident that tried to save the Grandmother after the attack but was too late she died. Most of our Migrants are fine we mix ok just a few dont.. Plus our First Nation People in some places are like this too need to be careful at night in some towns.

It was an interesting cultural difference between USA & Australia that you went through the parking lot to find the restaurants first; in the US I notice that's usually the case, the parking lot is in front of the shopfronts so you walk to the door from your car. In Australia it's typically the opposite. Parking lots like that are hidden away at the back so they were the rear of each shop, usually just used for deliveries, the shopfronts never face the parking lots.

I lived in Footscray for 40 plus years. Was there before the Vietnamese boat people in the 1970s. Used to be predominantly working class Australians and South European migrants. Then came waves of many different nationalities. Once a brilliant shopping centre, the best in the West. The scourge of drugs and large shopping centres built elsewhere saw the demise of Coles Variety Store, Forges, Clarke Rubber, Alexander Mens wear, Mckwens, Datner fur and leather, quality white goods, furniture boutiques..

It looks poor but trust me it’s not a poor suburb. You missed the opportunity to highlight its Vietnamese culture, especially the food and Footscray’s nightlife, not clubs but the restaurants and pubs, going out to eat in Footscray at night is one of the best things to do.

You passed Juba at the very start of the video and the first South Sudanese guys you met pointed to you it was just behind you. When you asked if it was the best that's where you lost it as you kept wandering looking for Nando's. Just FYI Juba is the capital city of South Sudan, it is not called Juda. Shout out to the same Somali guy for hospitality. Glad to see little Africa in Melbourne with most countries represented by flags including our very own Kenya 🇰🇪.

People are shocked to see we have hoods in Australia. These areas are usually cheap and that's why you see mixed race. Usually areas built in the 70's, 80's and 90's that were new developments had failed. Along with some older places close to the CBD's that are also of low wealth. They look nice but run down because the government threw lots of funding into these places when they were new until collapse

Footscray despite it’s rough exterior is still a very functioning area. It atrracts not only migrants from Africa and Asia, it also attracts city workers and students due to the city being only 9minutes by train. Footscray has a University and Hospital. All of the surrounding suburbs are affluent high middle areas, new high rise appartments. The little square you stumbled across does atrract people who struggle with substance abuse and some mentally challenged people
, most are very harmless despite initial appearances. There are also high school and universities students frequently in and around that square. The reason i started renting nearby is that you have the markets, all of the different restaurants from all over the world and great cafes. There is a beautiful river with walking tracks and botancial gardens. One of melbournes major shopping malls is also 8minutes away on light rail. The area is also only 20minutes to the international airport. But everyone you meet are friendly, will have conversations with you, people from all backgrounds in this area are very giving, and i know most people in the shops on a first name basis which can be very rare in other inner city areas in Melbourne. The people make this area great and safe

I take my granddaughter (7) to Footscray a lot, have done for years. We attended a festival in the main drag and it was fantastic. The food, music and arts is awesome. They have a lot of different African celebrations all year round and It’s a safe place with great food. It’s not the cleanest area because the council spent too much money on building up an urban section just down to the south. A lots of apartments, parks and trendy restaurants in the urban section (yuk). I’ve meet my gf there for dinner and I always get the train. It’s close to a huge university and the 2nd biggest shopping centre with a huge multicultural community. Mate it’s not dangerous and the best part about it there is no Macca’s. KFC etc in this section. If a want to ask questions about best place to eat or get a coffee I usually ask someone at the tram stops. Great pub about 400 mtr past the supermarkets. The library is worth a visit because of the huge African, Vietnamese and Indian community. The art centre near the library is amazing. The place goes off on a Sunday.
