It was an interesting cultural difference between USA & Australia that you went through the parking lot to find the restaurants first; in the US I notice that's usually the case, the parking lot is in front of the shopfronts so you walk to the door from your car. In Australia it's typically the opposite. Parking lots like that are hidden away at the back so they were the rear of each shop, usually just used for deliveries, the shopfronts never face the parking lots.

Footscray despite it’s rough exterior is still a very functioning area. It atrracts not only migrants from Africa and Asia, it also attracts city workers and students due to the city being only 9minutes by train. Footscray has a University and Hospital. All of the surrounding suburbs are affluent high middle areas, new high rise appartments. The little square you stumbled across does atrract people who struggle with substance abuse and some mentally challenged people , most are very harmless despite initial appearances. There are also high school and universities students frequently in and around that square. The reason i started renting nearby is that you have the markets, all of the different restaurants from all over the world and great cafes. There is a beautiful river with walking tracks and botancial gardens. One of melbournes major shopping malls is also 8minutes away on light rail. The area is also only 20minutes to the international airport. But everyone you meet are friendly, will have conversations with you, people from all backgrounds in this area are very giving, and i know most people in the shops on a first name basis which can be very rare in other inner city areas in Melbourne. i grew up here. Back in the 70's and 80's alot of italians, greeks and balkans lived there. then the Vietnamese arrived in mid 80's. Then mid 90's until now african migrants. It always been a safe area.
Wrong, Vietnamese arrived in mid 70's and onwards, after the fall of South Vietnam! Now Footscray is just a Ghetto compared to the 1960's and early 70's before HighPoint was built.

I take my granddaughter (7) to Footscray a lot, have done for years. We attended a festival in the main drag and it was fantastic. The food, music and arts is awesome. They have a lot of different African celebrations all year round and It’s a safe place with great food. It’s not the cleanest area because the council spent too much money on building up an urban section just down to the south. A lots of apartments, parks and trendy restaurants in the urban section (yuk). I’ve meet my gf there for dinner and I always get the train. It’s close to a huge university and the 2nd biggest shopping centre with a huge multicultural community. Mate it’s not dangerous and the best part about it there is no Macca’s. KFC etc in this section. If a want to ask questions about best place to eat or get a coffee I usually ask someone at the tram stops. Great pub about 400 mtr past the supermarkets. The library is worth a visit because of the huge African, Vietnamese and Indian community. The art centre near the library is amazing. The place goes off on a Sunday.
Wow..another comment saying that. I can't believe how many people are surprised. I'm surprised at their surprise..lol. We are like a lot of other countries around the world. We are up there when it comes to multiculturalism. Almost every nationality is found here.
We are multi cultures in very heavy sense. Just like little African, you can find little Vietnamese, little Chinese, little Indonesia, little India, little Nepal, little Japanese, little Korea, little Italy, little Lebanese, little Greek, even Russia, Germany, Spain, etc. Australia is a little Earth by itself with every countries from every corner gather in one continent, we are one but many.

😂 you’re beautiful!
i grew up here. Back in the 70's and 80's alot of italians, greeks and balkans lived there. then the Vietnamese arrived in mid 80's. Then mid 90's until now african migrants. It always been a safe area.
@@FoodieTrekker Only for locals! 😥
Wrong, Vietnamese arrived in mid 70's and onwards, after the fall of South Vietnam! Now Footscray is just a Ghetto compared to the 1960's and early 70's before HighPoint was built.

Have a gander up North in Cairns Queensland Not a big city but plenty to explore in and around the region, plus the great barrier reef, Im Aboriginal my brother inlaw is 7ft chinaman that got scholarship with a Melbourne NBL team, He's got a YT channel also he made when we took him out bush camping
I suggest you visit Noble Park or Dandenong they have a great variety of Sudanese food. Good to see you in Australia 😊
In Brisbane there is Morooka. Lots of different African restaurants.
Why you didn’t mention Somali the population of Footscray area some of them are Somali.
I never thought that this many black people was in Australia. never thought about it to be honest. Interesting and thanks for this.
Yea Africans and all is running from their own countries and taking over others, Sad...you should see at least one ABORIGINAL.
Plenty . Media will show you the Australia they want you to see.
Wow..another comment saying that.
I can't believe how many people are surprised.
I'm surprised at their surprise..lol.
We are like a lot of other countries around the world.
We are up there when it comes to multiculturalism.
Almost every nationality is found here.
Because it's not many. Less than 1% of the Australian population is black African around 300k out of 28Million
You are looking for Juba not yuba, Juba is the capital city of South Sudan 🇸🇸.

Northern Queensland is dope as well like Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns.

@@Butterfly-jt6cr He was definitely an Australian, we are always helpful and kind, he only looked African! 😄
He said hes from NZ, usually ppl are more hospitable and open within his culture (somalian) yet also within polynesian or pacific island cultures.
@@SpiritGvn I'll watch again, I'm sure he said he grew up in Australia but had also lived in New Zealand!
Perfect 👌🏾
Glad you liked it!
You'll find actual Black Australians in CAIRNS, NORTH QUEENSLAND.
Worked in Footscray in 97 and it was predominantly Vietnamese people. Tons of " H" everywhere but awesome food. Now African food available, Melbourne has every food you can think of.
So nice to see how helpful the you guy was to you and to give you a lift home to your hotel ❤
Yea he is a cool brother
Footscrazy! My man!

I love Ethiopian food…I usually go with my family every weekend my children and wife love it ….
You love Ethiopian food, you love Ethiopian women but you hate the Ethiopian people! Lol! Typical cave man, I'm Aboriginal Australian. I support my BLK American brothers!. European males enslaved, colonized and subjugated our people for over three generations! European men tried to breed the melanin out of our skin! I respect you DBN for speaking out for all oppressed people globally, much love man...!!!
Even though the area is not that nice to look at, the people were all polite, friendly & getting on with thier lives.
