I do like it a lot. It looking "plain" is not a negative for me. SUVs, trucks, commercials, and buses being "plain" or "boring" is always okay for me no matter who makes them. Of course, what is "plain" and "boring" is subjective. As long as it is practical and serves my needs like transportation, hauling or stability, I am fine with it. Practicality over style for me. Well how else could you carry 4x8 sheet goods, lumber, or ladders with this vehicle? Its a van so staing its aerodinamic properties only applys to passenger vans flying down the highway. So yeah, totally irrelavant to the purpose of a work van.
What, I like in this new caddy: + travel assist +glass roof +individual lighthing in the second row seats +soft materials on boot sidewalls, the actual one has a scratchy plastics + electric side doors, it is very helpful if you have children or old persons. + the new golf 8 mib 3 infotainment, I hope that the android auto come as standard, not 150 euro option it is even free in a Dacia + no more 5 speeds gearbox on tdi engines What I don't like in this new caddy: - the rear bumper is shorter, it leaves the rear door more vulnerable to impact - they have removed the awsome roof storage on caddy 3 and 4 -side door bumpers are significantly lower, it is more stylish but it make them useless. - the storage on the top dashboard has been removed 🤬 for style I guess. - they are keeping the same 2nd row seat mechanism, you need 02 bodybuilders to remove the seats, the competition offers a flat floor mechanism without removing the seats. The backrest is still fixed, I would appreciate if they put the same mechanism as the tiguan - I don't like the capacitive touch buttons.
I agree (especially for removing the 2nd row seats in spite of I'm not a bodybuilder!). In addition to the con list: - it seems the roof window has no curtain to get some shadow. This ceiling window is fully useless (except to increase the price), as the commercial version has not - the rear windows are not openable !!!!
At the beginning of this video there is but one question in my mind: Have they finally removed the ridiculously outdated scissor suspension? The Fiat Doblo being the most comfortable in the segment with the only one with an independent rear suspension option is rather weird. Aaand I am satisfied; Golf 8 platform, gorgeous interior, and very nicely packed passenger version looks awesome as a SUV replacement.
Just remember to check the emissions when the steering wheel is turning too! Love the Caddy but was not a fan of the diesel emission scandal, still waiting for a reimbursement for the 2012 Caddy I bought brand new. It gets settled this year in Australia and owners of these vehicles receive around $800AUD compensation each.
The mk5 really needs rear independent supension. I hope the dab radio reception is better then the mk4. The all electric vw caddy version is ok for delivering bread around town.
I own Caddy Maxi 2.0 TDI - and the next car will be Caddy Maxi again. Great family car, I can pack everything I need (for mountains, bikes,...) for me and my family (2kids).
Ive been after an AWD version for years! Hope they bring it to production. Changing the flat featureless panels on the panel version to ones that have 'imprints' where windows might go is a big mistake - cheapens it. This review also needs to mention if the injector failure on all current and previous owners diesels (especially 1.6 TDI) has been addressed. I would want to know about that, not if they are going to make a limp-wristed electric or hybird version that wouldn't have the range to tow a 1 1/2 tonne trailer anyway....
I absolutely agree about the panel version. I think the caddy being flat sided set it apart from the competition. I am sure it would have been more aerodynamic to have kept the flat sides. Also it would be easier for sign writing it.
Only the following things are missing on the new Caddy before it becomes my perfect family car: 1. automatic transmission (preferably w/ Golf8's stylish shifter lever) 2. two individual seats for mid row 3. long wheelbase version w/ more comfortable third row Thank you VW!
My only concern is with the 1.5l petrol power plant. As we all know, the VAG group has had a serious issue with the 1.5l petrol EVO car engine which replaced the old 1.4 engine. I hope VW are not going to be using the same car engine?
I owned a caddy from 2012 until I sold it. Best car ever had. But one thing that I'm not satisfied yet to see whuch hasn't been updated, a rear window on the passenger sliding door. A window like the front door. Because the rooftop can't be open. 😐☹️☹️
What does it cost to replace the Panoramic roof . We had one explode on AMG and we were horrified it is not covered under warranty and forced to pay $6800.00 australian dollars for a genuine replacement. No one had an aftermarket unit as the car is only 7 month old just out of the showroom floor with 4800km Om the odometer and unless we pay the money we cannot take the car home from the dealership. I assume VW is the same.
As much of those assistance can help, try getting that in a commercial vehicle. In a lot of Caddys around 2012-2015 there is not even a passenger Airbag, but having a dual zone climate, fancy radio, etc, etc. And as this is a cargo vehicle, most of the time the damage is done by other forces than the driver. Loading personal, forklifts, fallen cargo or some other loading minor incidents. Mostly from behind with the forklifts, loading personal stepping on the wrong place, hitting the back bumpers with cargo, etc, etc. Next time, when you got to drive it, please, focus on visibility, ease of use, easy to clean interior/seats, cargo capacity and weight capacity, cargo dimensions for short and long wheel base. Also this is a cargo miniVan, so a square body is essential. Who cares about wheel arches and 18" wheels, come on. those big wheels only eat from the space inside with a bigger wheel arches in the cargo area. Check the space between the wheel arches on the inside and compare it with the old one, to see if it actually got bigger where it matters the most. We still have some of the old Polo-based Caddy around and nice to see them on the Premiere. I have never seen the first one, based on the Golf Mk1.
Why you complaining about passanger airbag if you said you don't need nothing in there? Get cheapest version and be happy with four wheels. Always was thinking who the hell buying those simple vans without nothing inside. When they ruined inside the sell and buys next one to ruin.
@@dagnisabols7530 After 2015 all Caddys have passenger Airbags, at least here. I'm just saying to look out when you get a van like that, because they get you on something, but can cheap out on something essential like a spare tire.
Nice video i like the tech and move toward more options as use my caddy for weekends and only vehicle, also and the pan roof a nice touch, not sure on side design a bit lazy as based on mqb and looks more like a connect (as they share platform) and not as clean as present model, i noticed move adblue to lhd side rear wheel arch so limited on racking space there, Shame no split tailgate as would be handy and i hope a dynaudio option. I hope they are giving you a engine cover and carpets behind rear seats as these missing on my hi line and paid £27k and seats not that comfy.
Has the new Caddy still got the over head shelf above the driver and passenger. ? I’m guessing the Panoramic roof will be an option ?? Or if not has it got cover to slide over to stop heat and light coming in ??
I suspect it will be new VW Touran. Had a chat with VW dealer a while ago about Touran (and why they didn't have any for test drive), dealer told me they expect Touran to be removed from production this year so they aren't ordering them anymore. This passenger Caddy might be its replacement.
Any idea on payload for the new model? I'm outgrowing my current caddy but don't particularly want a transporter sized van. A new maxi would be ample if it has got a decent payload.
Thank you Brian for the very good review. But I think you made one mistake, you said the new Caddy van Maxi (LWB) has a bigger load area now at 4m3., the old/present model has a 4.2m3 load area. And like one of your commenters asked does the new Caddy have independent rear suspension now? I've seen other review channels reviewing the old/present Caddy just today & no mention of a new Caddy in the near future at all! I suspect VW have asked to review it to push sales of the old model before the new model appears. But well done Brian that was a very good review. Thanks again.

Vw Viloran, sadly Asia only. Can't understand those moronic vw management reasoning. Vw Tiguan allspace/Seat Tarroco don't even come close to Sharan in terms of space. And a big family can rarely afford a Q7.

Honestly, I am so tired of tiny little people telling me how roomy a vehicle is on its interior. Lets get someone who is well over 6 foot to give an opinion and not a man who only hits 5 foot 8 inches on a good day. We may as well have a 12 year old girl tell us how roomy the van is on the inside while having a tea party.

If someone makes real efforts to reform shouldn't we support them? (i don't know the answer to that btw) Although pricing has to be made more reasonable, feels like it's only been over the last few years that a 40k car is being described as affordable, it's not for me nor anyone else I know. 20k used to get you a pretty reasonable family car new.

Have a mark3 caddy from new 90'000 miles full service history from a vw main dealership van was trouble from about 6 months in so many stuip things went wrong with it and big things the quality not there and this new one will be 20times worse after a few years of ownership to much crap on new vw

The outside looks like 🤮🤮🤮 the inside is ok I love caddy’s but not this one I think once my caddy is done I’ll be going for something different Vw just put a lot off people off the caddy especially in the modified section

That hexagon-design front grille will be a right pain-in-the-proverbial to clean. I hope it's not on all variants.

I currently drive the 150bhp caddy, is there nothing coming to equal or improve on this (120bhp seems a bit underpowered to me)

The Berlingo/Partner is exactly the same as the old one. I can see many ways this is all new.
It looks mostly upscale and expensive...and probably will be! Could have painted the underside of the bonnet though

Twin dosing means there are two AdBlue doses, one for each SCR catalytic converters. This allows to work more efficiently.

Have a mark3 caddy from new 90'000 miles full service history from a vw main dealership van was trouble from about 6 months in so many stuip things went wrong with it and big things the quality not there and this new one will be 20times worse after a few years of ownership to much crap on new vw
