    Hi EDD Welcome Back - Great to see you again....

    The Caddy is an amazing little van. I worked as a courier driver for the local council and when they first gave me the Caddy I thought what a piece of (censored) Then after just one day of driving it my mind changed very quickly. The little 1.9L turbo Diesel had more than enough grunt to pull around the near one tonne of library books it was carrying every day and it could still keep up with the traffic and speed limits with all that weight onboard. Plus it could still do around 850 Kms to a tank of fuel. I drove it for 3 years before the council upgraded our fleet to a Hyundai ILoad. I miss that little caddy.

      @@Tarek20x Surprisingly It never suffered any major mechanical problems over the 3 odd years I was using it. It just kept on going everyday. By the time it was replaced with the iLoad it had over 300 thousand Kms on it. It was the best little workhorse I ever had and the best bit was it was just so much fun to drive.

      Those are the vans I buy at 300,000km. A light workhorse that was a fleet vehicle is great. You know maintenance is up to date and you dont need replace many parts shortly after purchase.

    It's all well and good having lane assist, led screens and adaptive cruise control, but the biggest issue van drivers face now days which I know can't be tested by Edd is..
    'Will my tools still be in it at the end of the day?' Van security (I'm looking directly at you Ford!) Is frankly awful, the amount of transits and transit connects that get broken into with the hole under the door lock method is unbelievable, it's almost Criminal (pun intended).

  • @Liamofloin
    @Liamofloin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    He didn't mention that the Maxi cargo area is smaller than the old version. He made us think that the area is bigger. Strange that, these reviewers are not reviewers at all, they are promoters/advertisers! The van is supplied by the VW Press Office after all.

    Never understand why it is a advantage that these modern vans become like a luxury car with painted bumpers and vulnerable interios. They are supposed to be a working horse. Give that green Caddy to a crew of plasterers and look how it looks after a year of use...

    • @oldgreggscreamybaileys6618
      @oldgreggscreamybaileys6618 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Tbf plasterers aren’t going to be purchasing a van like this, they would probably get a cheap van like a combi or connect rather than spend 30k plus on a nice caddy.

      I personally drive a 2016 caddy currently and ordered this new one last week. It’s also my personal car so I’d like it to be a luxury vehicle. Meanwhile I can also carry all my working equipment (cleaning and delivery of paper towels, toilet paper, soap etc. All clean materials mostly). So for me this is a good balance.

  • @Neyghene
    @Neyghene 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I drove a 2014 Caddy Maxi for a year and I never felt comfortable. Am I supposed to sit in van or car position? lol
    Love the way they look, loved seeing dozens of them on the road, but the ride never felt great, with the rear leaf springs. I got a T4 now, 26 years old, 210tkm, and I genuinely find it more comfortable to drive. It's even 10cm shorter than the Maxi, easy city parking
    The new model took some getting used to, but my eyes have adjusted to the current decade and I guess I'm starting to like it. Hope it has a bit of a smoother feel.

    Hi Ed, interesting that they’ve given the new model indented body panels again, presumably to increase rigidity and reduce booming. Got to be the 1.5 petrol now for the uk I guess as most big companies are going non diesel but I’m concerned that there has been no mention of an SCH, PHEV or Electric version...- why are they taking so long? 🤔

    • @Duxhorne
      @Duxhorne ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m guessing because of packaging and battery run times. Not to mention the vag group has been working on bio fuels for some time now so hopefully they won’t have to deduct load space for battery’s if they can put the bio fuels into the mass market 🤷‍♂️

  • @dorsetwurzle

    What’s good here is that Edd fails to mention that you DONT get auto wipers on the Commerce Pro, or orientation lighting.
    In fact, the central electrics modules are in Transport mode when delivered to customers!
    Volkswagen are also incredibly happy to sell you one, but when you tell them parts that your vehicle should have are not enabled and their fingers go in the ears and YOU are wrong, not Volkswagen!
    Other that this and all the glitches and dunbass touch controls this is a great van. Volkswagen just need to start listening to customers rather than feeding them a ton of BS!

    What happend with the sleek and sporty design language?
    I loved how they integrated the upper ends of the doors so seamlessly into the body. The smooth angle between the hood and windshield. The large double heated rear windows with great visability, where they hid the rear wiper arm motor.
    The antenna makes a comeback on the roof? They must have fired their design chief and tried to make a car anyways.
    The classic shifter was PRACTICAL. As a commercial van should be.

      @dagnisabols7530 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      New caddy van is a bit disappointing. Sides looks like 1980. Side door rail is chunky and can't cover anymore. Fog lights not available. Antenna not integrated in windscreen. Can go on and on. Even with top spec you can't change that cheap look. Wait... And new Ford will be caddy with different badge.

    And the infotainment system is a pain in the arse. What happens is that when you want to navigate , the heel ofyour hand rests automatically on the little ledge under the screen which unfortunately is where the volume control , heating control , etc etc is ,which is super sensitive . The new golf/caddy in my mind is the worse thought out interior of any car on the market , and as for the stupid little selector lever in the Auto , !!!. More and more , German car designers ,are losing sight on what the customer really wants , and concentrating far to much on the gimmicky , BMW and Mercedes are also guilty. The caddy has never been considered a serious workmans vehicle ,. Most are sold to millennials as a way of transporting their surfboard to the beach , or a roomy family transporter with three rows of seats. If you want a work van look elsewhere

      Have you ever driven a 2k? It drives super safe and relatively comfortable. I've been driving mine for almost 100k now, never had issues with unstable driving conditions and I drive it pretty quickly around south German/Austrian mountain passes, Autobahn, etc. My fuel consumption over the whole time is around 38mpg with the 1.9 TDI. One of the best engines Volkswagen ever designed, never had any problems with the engine, turbo, etc so far. 210k km in total.

      @@kretsche9990 total agree with you, even if it has leaf springs the 2k has gas struts which make the caddy comfortable but the driving position is awful, The shift gear is too low it create a back injury
