      @Barry Barry There would be far less accidental deaths if we didnt produce plants to feed billions upon billions of animals as well as billions of humans. let's grant animals their basic right not to have their throats slit, then maybe we can look at trying to improve farming practices.

    • @labangrankvist2993
      @labangrankvist2993 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @J P it's not a matter about removing suffering entirely, but minimizing it when possible. Most of the plants we grow we feed to animals, which means that even if we didn't kill the animals for meat, it would still take more dead animals to produce animal-based food than vegan food.

      That farmer was at a loss to answer because he believes that what happens in farming is necessary because it's all legal, he doesn't see the horror and unnecessary cruelty in what he does, because he believes he is being righteous supplying food for us, he's not a bad person, just blinkered by the cultural, habitual acceptance of these practices, all this meat eating and production is a kind of unconscious addiction at this stage, thankfully there are farmers who have realized the cruelty they are taking part in and have changed their livelihoods, hopefully there will be many more in the future, thanks to people like Earthling Ed doing the work that is so badly needed, thank you Ed,

      Which seems logically akin to saying that (human) slavery abolitionists should have had a readymade economic 'escape hatch' readied to present to slaveowners, all tied up in a bow.
      I do feel that wealthy societies have a role in easing economic transitions, but I don't feel that placing that responsibility largely upon the shoulders of those pointing-out injustice, is the answer; that too-easily lazily leads-to: "Either hand me a giftwrapped solution, or be silent!"
      'Perpetrators' ARE (primarily) responsible for changing their own unethical behavior..
      Society, at best, can merely point-to, and hopefully help emplace, 'options'..
      It shouldn't be made-easy for perpetrators of injustices to continue coddledly, blameshiftingly making excuses, or to repeatedly 'move the goalposts', while merely insincerely feigning regrets.
      If others accept 'responsibility', closedminded abusers will gladly LET them.
      There's, I hope you'd agree, a vast diff tween 'helping', and excusing/ enabling those who only pay lipservice, if even that, to mending their ways. Evading direct questions, as this farmer disingenuously does, is a huge red flag.

      Or would you prefer a fruit/plant to be artificially pollinated to produce nutrients for you consumption?

      Paul Taylor I think that you may have been exposed to vegans that don't bother learning to cook and therefore become malnourished. But as for the vegan that have researched the sources of their nutrition, protein and fat, the main two components of meat, these can be easily substituted for plant based food (pulses, beans, lentils, nuts, oil as well as veg with higher protein levels). I understand your immediate assumption because some people refuse to learn to cook (two bags of crisps and a donut a day can be vegan but still not nutritious) whereas a vegan cook makes dishes BETTER because they know their shit

      Let me just clarify, I don’t care if you or anyone else is a vegan, it’s just myself and many others can agree that when a vegan tries to protest their opinions on others who constantly disagree or don’t care (even if it’s not aggressive) it is always annoying, especially if they don’t let up.
      Honestly though humans are the most dominant species on the planet for a reason, shit like this isn’t unethical, we have been farming animals just the same for ages, technology is just getting more advanced and efficient.
      It may seem more brutal, in actuality it’s just doing things faster.

If the vegan diet was more convenient and cheaper sure I would eat it...end of the day your just asking people to eat food. I think keep it simple...make the food tastier, more convenient and cheaper...people will eat it. This moral high ground will get vegans nowhere.

    • @Donna_B
      @Donna_B 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paul Taylor, your question is merely a distraction to the real issue at hand.... the suffering of innocent beings. We do not need to eat dead animals to survive. As a matter of fact, we vegans can and do "thrive" on a plant-based diet. We humans have a choice. BTW, would you want to eat head lice, crabs, or fleas??? As you say they are "sentient beings" too. Are they something you would want to eat??? The bottom line is it's not realistic to think that one could live with head lice or crabs. It's just not practical thinking. We need to apply good old-fashioned common sense here. Just saying.

    • @Donna_B
      @Donna_B 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paul Taylor, try telling that to Dr. Ellsworth Wareham who is 103 years old and has been vegan most of his life! Just Google him. Last I heard he was still mowing his grass with a push mower! As for B12 it's easy to get that in fortified cereals, nut milks, etc. Many carnivores are deficient in B12. Being vegan is better for our health, the animals, and the environment. Many scientific studies support it. Dr. Ellsworth Wareham is living proof of it.

    • @Donna_B

      Paul Taylor, whether you want to believe it or not Dr. Ellsworth Wareham is a known vegan. As I said, Just Google him. And as for nuts, I've met several carnivores who are nuts!

    • @SW-fn7cl
      @SW-fn7cl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Taylor I'm not even vegan but typically you're talking in absolutes with no balance at all.
      Nutritional yeast is one example of plant based b12 but many foods are fortified. As is meat funnily enough as it's not a direct source of b12 itself. Can you give me the other important micronutrients that can't be absorbed as well? You've already got one wrong.
      All those illnesses can be contracted by eating a diet containing meat. You should be emphasising the dangers of the diet not it being a complete disaster of a diet. Our food production and consumption is already utterly insane. We eat far too much sugar and meat which a vegan diet would actually massively wipe out.
      Then you say a vegan living a long time is lying! Ask Carl Lewis how he was feeling being one of the greatest athletes of all time on a vegan diet.
      Then you label it a starvation cult. What a rabid, senseless cunt you are.

      sirgay meerkat You could argue the same for many vegan foods. Most plant matter is indigestable and man made. Wheat, grains, seeds are not humans natural diet. Eating animals is closer to nature than eating these man made, difficult to digest processed foods. The problem we have is the climate the majority of us live in is not suited to growing fruit all year round which are the least impactive foods on the body. Stop eating animals for ethical reasons is fine just don't expect everyone to follow.

    Anyone can pick on a farmer. However, there are financial realities that (small) farmers have to face. I'm sure they strive to produce the highest quality foods they can-most farmers, that is. If anything, I am far more likely to want to support ethical farmers by doing business with them, rather than attack them for raising chickens, pigs, goats, lamb, cattle/cows, etc. Most people in America think like this. (Britain is probably fairly similar in this regard.) And some crops and livestock you can make a bigger profit from. There are economics to consider here folks, not just vegan moralities...

    I wanted to watch the whole interview but BBC is only restrictef to the UK... people from elsewhere cant watch it what a shame. Id be really interested in thr discussion because so far Ed seems to verbally "destroy" the farmer ;)
