I just built mine today because I got a new 9800X3D yesterday. It's paired with the Carbon X870e, RTX 4080 Super, KLEVV DDR5 8000 MTs, 1000 wat Seasonic and 4 TB SS 980 NVME and 1TB 970 for the C: Drive ---- Platinum LET ROCK!!!!!!!!!!
Got the same thing do you notice when you tab out of games and go back in it’s a black screen for a couple of seconds also how many sticks of ram you have
I got the MSI MPG X870E CARBON WIFI and was lucky to get the new 9800X3D which will be my new main PC for years to come. The new setup will replace my ASUS ROG RAMPAGE V EXTREME and Intel Core i7 6850K CPU and my switch from Intel to AMD.
I have this board paired with a 9800X3D, XFX XTX, 32 GB RAM, a bunch of drives and powered by Super Flower Leadex III ATX 3.1. I have been loving it so far. I really like the BIOS and how the board boots so fast. My last MSI motherboard was the Z97 Gaming 5 and it was a great piece of kit.
Another small difference between Carbon and Tomahawk, is that Tomahawk has RAID support only for the NVMe drives, but not the SATA drives. I have no idea why, but the Carbon has both...
I am about to begin full rebuild with this mobo and 9800x3d. I will start with test bench assembly to test a new Crucial T705 ssd, and see how temps go under load. I will also install OS and every driver and latest BIOS. After that I will take my whole custom loop rig apart and redo everything from scratch, including a jungle of cables resulting from partial upgrades/modifications over the years. Once assembled, I will OC the 9800x3d.
I wanted this board but it would have been a 2 week wait on Amazon so I went with the X870e Aorus Master. The Carbon has a better I/O and the Aorus has shielded 8pin power connections. I was coming from a 10 year old 4770K and board and can see the Aorus board being used for 10+ years.
I posted above. I was also coming from a seven-year-old PC with the 8700 K over clock to 4.5 and I was running an EVGAGTX 1080 TI and it was showing its age.
Magnifique intro! Even if these new boards are really good i'm so happy ta have follow your tuf x670e review. I think the right spot was here with good price/performance ratio (and futur proof for a simple user like me) i believed x870e would replace all x670e is it the case? if it's not it's 9 chipsets available on AMD website...as a motherboard addict you mus be in paradise! Merci pour ta présentation de la carte. Encore!
Awesome Channel. Thank you. Back Panel buttons for clear cmos are in a terrible spot on this board. I can see myself easily hitting on accident trying to plug usb in, especially usb type a.
Its green not yellow. I don't care. I'm doing a greenish build and also my football club is green 😅 IMO the X870 Tomahawk is the best bang for the bug in the X870/X870e
Subscribed, great reviews on these MB's dude, your format is great. Would love to see you cover the Taichi 870-E which PC Mag gave editors choice award, Asus 870E-E, and the Asus 870 A/F variants! im pretty much between all those and the MSI Carbon & Tomahawk ;)
Could you answer some memory questions? I'm planning a new build utilizing a Z890 MB and an Intel chip, but memory has changed. The board can take 9000MT DDR5, but I can't find any sticks for sale with that. I've found several 8000 and more 7200, but which is better? Does latency mean anything any more? These sticks seem to have high timing/latency values? Also the 8000s come in an unusual configuration 48GB in pairs rather than 16 or 32. Why is that? I hope you can answer my questions, so far I haven't received an answer from anyone else.
I must say that I became big fan of your reviews. It's now close to an addiction and my wife is starting to wonder what the hell I am doing watching motherboards ... cher compatriote! Hope you'll show me the light so that I can replace my bold x58 asus supercomputer and it's xeon w3520. I must admit that I enjoy the jokes a lot.Keep up the good work. Finally some refreshing motherboards reviews. Merci à toi. Nicolas
So If I put one NVMe SSD Gen 5 on the M.2_1 CPU Slot, I can another two Gen 4 NVMe SSDs on the chipset Slots and still get the x16 CPU Lanes for the Graphics Card with that motherboard? Also, is really any real world performance hit running a gen 4 NVMe on the chipsets instead of the CPU Lanes?
The manual states PCIe1, PCIe2 and M.2_2 share bandwidth, so if you want to run PCIe1 at gen5 x16 bandwidth, you must leave PCIe2 and M.2_2 blank. Direct CPU PCIe lanes will always be able to process data faster. That's due to bandwidth and latency. However, because chipsets already provide gen4 bandwidth, for the vast majority of the applications, you will not see any difference. For games, you could just use a gen3 NVMe ssd via Chipset and you would not see any difference vs CPU gen5 NVMe SSD, maybe except for loading save files or some huge shader compiler data. But for actual gameplay, there is no difference.
DO NOT RECOMMEND HAS ISSUES WHEN SAVING BIOS SETTING SCREEN GOES BLANK. Both the mobo I got cause I replaced a hero with another one. Both Ethernet ports were only downloading at 10 MBS even tho I can get 120MBS
My MPG Carbon X670e stopped working out of nowhere after about 3 weeks & wouldn't post or refresh bios. I've officially written off MSI boards for now.
Great review, thanks! A question - if there is a Graphics card which uses PCIe 5.0 16 lanes AND M2 which is PCIe5.0 will GPU slow down to using x8 lanes? Also what happens if we add another M2 to other PCIe5.0 socket? Will drives be x8 lanes but graphics x16? Or will GPU also be x8? Thanks again :)
If u use the closest M2.SSD@pcie 5.0 it will not remove any lanes from the 16 lane GPU export . If you any other PCIe 5.0 enabled connectors or exports , the GPU export will go from 16 to 8 lanes @ PCIe 5.0 Hope this helps
I also used this MB in my build. I paired it with the Ryzen 9800X3D, and the Azrock 7900 XTX Taichi OC 24, dominator titanium 6000MT 30cl with the Evga Supernova 1000G FTW PSU. My question is I’m running 2 silicon power 2.5 4TB SSD‘s and I’m wanting to use the M.2 2280 GEN 5. Besides the load time on games, would it be beneficial to get the GEN5 M.2 2280? I play a lot of games and I’m also a photographer and I do a lot of editing of just pictures at the moment soon to be doing video as well I’m new to your channel but I love the energy and I just subscribed to you cause I love the way you explain things
I think it's worth the $200 extra over the tomahawk. That said, I just want to be able to use PCIe_2 on a MB without spliting lanes with PCI_1. I have a professional audio card with a daughter card that has to be underneath it, meaning it can't be in the last slot, which would be fine as its PCIe 1X. Granted right now lane sharing doesn't matter, but maybe it will in the near future.
Last year's model was under $400 around April of last year, which is when I hopped on. Definitely not worth an upgrade at current prices. We'll see how things go.
We have "Hi I'm Jason" with his synchronized hand moments and then we have this guy a caffeine addict that never sleeps and possibly on concerta for ADD that might explain the over acting and hands and arms waving all over the screen. Lmao
Yes I am loving that Gigabyte and MSI decided to upgrade their BIOS menus completely, I am currently on an MSI X670e Tomahawk and really hate the BIOS. The menus seems replecated and buggy as hell, and every BIOS update fixes something and breaks another.

Oh boy, what a beast.
Have a blast, man!
There is no way DDR5-8000 runs stable on AMD.
Got the same thing do you notice when you tab out of games and go back in it’s a black screen for a couple of seconds also how many sticks of ram you have
Ohhh my, now i have a hard on
Should have gone for 6000 MT/s CL 30 RAM instead as AMD Memory Controller doesn't like anything above 6000 MT/s RAM clock speeds.

Tomahawk gets the SATA ports from an ASMEDIA 1064 add-in chipset.

I bought today one X870 tomahawk!
Best X870 hands down.

Carbon has more 2 pcb layers over the tomahawk? Did i heard it right? I thought the tomahawk had 8 pcb layers too 😮
Yes.. my mistake ! Meant to remove that part :)
It's worth it to me as I hate M.2 screws.

I guess not really.
