@@sebastianpfau1174AP meele is lacking since they are region-locked, but if Ered Luin got a middle-tier strike unit avalible everywhere they would easily be the best dorf nation and infringe on Erebors roster
I don't know, Khazad Dum give them a run for their money. Erebor is the weakest, on that we can agree. However Ered Luin vs Khazad Dum is more of a stylistic difference than a power difference. Ered Luin's Pike and Shot is very strong of course, but is quite annoying to micro to make sure your crossbowmen always have proper line of sight. Khazad Dum's play style is much more straight forward and their superior bulk over Ered Luin does come into play often enough. Also a recruit anywhere tier 3 pike unit vs a slightly stronger but only recruitable in 1 province(and after a lot of effort too) is quite a significant advantage in favor of Khazad Dum. Basically it comes down to how much you value the power of crossbows, which are certainly nice and all but are a bit redundant for Dwarves as their superb siege units fulfil the same role from a longer range and without line of sight issues(catapults) and they still have the reclaimers for some throwing axes. Also they do have some pretty solid regular archers which are much better than the crossbows in skirmish fights, which is where the Dwarves are weakest in as they have no good answer to enemy archers/crossbowmen other than mercenary cavalry or whatever.
@@Augimund think i saw something like that in one of my History books, the basic ideas behind this, is all these Raised pikes, standing like trees increase the chance that arrows get catched and deflected, loosing energy during the process.

Ty Augimund 😊 The new crossbowmen general's Bodyguards are Amazing! So hiping and strong. I was playing high elves last week, and Ered Luin accepted the ring. Then, after one turn, they attacked me with heavy late game army... A little bit overpowered.
something I’ve always wondered about regarding DAC pikes is why the majority of them don’t utilize shields? historically most pike style formations used shields until masses firearm deployment. I would submit that putting yourself into the factions in game lore shoes you’d probably have a shield via common sense. plus, I think lore would support shields for pike formations, especially the dwarves who wouldn’t labor under the additional weight.
I believe it is because the engine can't. I could be wrong but a lot of the weird things are caused by the engine rather than a modders choice. It could also be a way to make the pikes at least slight less overpowered. Range units are one of the better ways to counter pikes.
there is a huge bug with the elven assault on thorins halls. The army will do either 1 of 2 things. Its quite lame TBH
on pikes being resistant to arrowfire. it could be a remnant of the original phalanx formation from rome 1. The Macedonian phalanx would have the 4th 5th etc rows have their spears angled. they then blocked a lot of projectiles and arrows that were thrown.
Does the AI Ered Luin build the Great Vaults of Beleriand if they control Buzra Dum and do they get attacked by the Balrog if they do? For that matter do AI factions build other similar buildings like say the Bridge of Tharbad if they can?
I've tried the "pike and shot tactic" by placing the crowssbowmen within the pikemen's formation, but the crossbowmen just fire vertically. I hope somebody could give me an advice other than by flanking the enemy with crowssbowmen as what Galu said, crossbow units require micromanagement. PS. Thank you Augimon for continuing the faction overview, yours is the best by far for version 5.
I like to use inverted V formations with about a half units space at the bottom. The enemy bunches up stuck near the gap, sitting ducks for the crossbows to gun down.
I usually place them so that the first rank of crossbow men are just in front of the first rank of pikemen that way they are covered by the pikes when in spear wall.
whats the difference between each dwarven faction? and what are campaigns like, i like dwarves in most fantasy games and want to start a campaign on this mod but dont know what each faction is about
Erebor is your standard dwarven faction. You have a relatively safe start insofar that you are right next to two allies and pretty far up north (in fact, the only ones to start even further north are the orcs of Gundabad, who will be your main early threat, and Angmar, who is far away). Your roster will be relatively well-rounded (minus the cavalry, of course), with a focus on shielded and shock infantry as well as axe throwers. Khazad-Dûm is more interesting, as it starts as a horde faction near Erebor and has to make its way to eastern Moria, defeating several scripted armies on the way before arriving at the ild dwarf hold itself. Once established, you can ally with the Anduin river folk, Lothlorien, and the High Elves, but will still have to deal with constant incursions by Goblins, Dunlendings, and soon probably Gundabad as well. The roster relies on very solid infantry, in particular shielded infantry. You will have more access to spear units, and have the best dwarven archer unit (as in, specifically using bows). Ered Luin has arguably the safest start of any faction, though as explained in the video you can choose to challenge yourself and attack your neighbors instead by siding with Sauron. It’ll make it a lot harder, but the alternative is fighting Angmar, then perhaps Gundabad, and once that’s done you’ll have more or less run out of enemies. The roster is laid out pretty well in the video, dominated by excellent pikes and crossbows. Hope that helps.
I need some info on the scripts. Is it sure that Bree doesn't participate in the attack anymore? Is it true that getting those two elven and dunedain settlements stops their attacks? Lastly, getting those elven settlements will push the elves to get their defiance stack, does it spawn in Mithlond or Rivendell?
