    I might sound old here, but I think 20 minutes move time and an extra 10 seconds loading sounds perfectly fine to me to save 100 bucks. These storage expansions cost almost as much as the series s I just bought...

    One major point he did not make in this video is if you buy a third party SSD it will NOT run Series X or S optimized games. That can only be done with the internal hard drive and the Seagate Microsoft expandable hard drive.

      PS third party SSD/HDD can SAVE Series X/S games for copying to internal later but CANNOT run the games.

      Actually, quite a few of the optimised games work fine, even running from an external HDD. For instance, Halo MCC, Ori, Rocket League, Desperados 3 all work fine from my collection. I'm sure there are more as well.
      You get the visual and frame rate enhancements, and can use quick resume, just not the loading time boosts.
      Only a select handful of games don't work at all externally, and need to be transferred when required. Examples of these are The Medium and Forza Horizon 4.

      What do you want exactly?! It's a NVMe Gen 4 1TB proprietary SSD that matchs the exact speed of the internal drive! Phison chips are expensive as hell.

      @@zakixbox I want companies to stop squeezing every penny out of me for tech that's now over 43 years old, I also want a viable solution day one and not what somebody seems fit at 1TB when that wasn't even enough for the last 2 console/PC generations, it was $1000 for 64MB in 1991 and now 30 years later with all the advances in tech we're barely above 4TB and it costs $729, how is this fair for all these years, I know companies need to make money but at least with a HDD the price dropped eventually, SSD has a couple of players and they're all slowpoking on purpose IMO, this has got to be the only piece of tech that never losses it value ever, it took almost 20 years to get a 1TB at $100 and even that has to be on sale to be that cheap or used cause it's still $139 new, name some other tech today who's price range never changes no matter the size or competition

    I have a 2tb segate drive, What I plan on doing and recommend to others is have every game you know has a series x upgrade on series x internal and some even if they don’t that you want to look and perform better, Every other game just put on the 2tb and if one of those happen to get a series x|s upgrade just switch it to internal and if you have no more storage go ahead and transfer the least played one to external

      @@eddieortiz873 no so basically you can offload all your optimized series s|x games on an external hard drive and then when ever you want to play it, move it to the internal drive and it takes 2 minutes

      @@quentinjulien7441 I know right and he didn't mention the expansion card is an SSD that is the same as the internal SSD and is utilized with the velocity architecture. You can't play Series games off an external SSD or mechanical hard drive. You can only play backwards compatible games off of them. Also you ain't buying a 2 TB external SSD with the read/write speed of the Expansion or internal SSD for $200

    In a nutshell, get the expansion card if you want to play Series X or Series X Optimized games from it (you can also copy games to the internal drive). Get an external SSD for all previous gen games. You'll still get some speed benefit by running your previous gen and older games off an external SSD.

      @@dgma626 Actually that’s incorrect. The One X with an external SSD improves loading times significantly compared to the HDD as it’s USB 3.1. Not sure how the One/One S would fair but the X definitely sees an improvement. There’s a reason why people are now SSD swapping One X’s.

    Hi I need a bit of help. I have the WD passport ssd and it is recognised by my PC but not by my Xbox.
    The Xbox recognises other driver but not this one. I’ve tried different cables, formatting it to NTFS but it won’t recognise it at all. Any help would be appreciated.

    I have a Series S with the 2TB Seagate Game Drive. The complaint about the 20+ minutes data transfer does not really matter, you can still play other games in the meantime, not like last gen, where you had to sit and wait.
    I use my HDD just for One/360 games, or for games that I don't play that often. The ingame loading time is the only thing that bothers me to play games direct from the HDD.

    For an Xbox Series S;
    Gonna go the 2TB Samsung T5 SSD. About the same price as the 1TB Xbox external.
    Or if I’m on a budget, the 1TB Samsung T5 SSD for about half the price.

      @@realgroovy24 You did'nt understand what you were buying then.... for one it supports a good number of "xbox series x/s games" I know this for a fact, second, its going to support the same number of x/s games as any other hard drive, you have to buy the xbox expansion card to download all the optimized games rather then some of them. Im sure theres lists online saying what games will and wont work on any external drive

      Are you playing Warzone 2? I’ve heard it takes up 4.5TB of storage, but if you use it with Modern Warfare 5, it takes up 6TB. Maybe that’s why your HDD and your Expansion Card is full. Oh well

      @@V1Salvo no where near that much, thankfully. Around 200gb for the last couple of games, but some are less than 100gb with a couple below 10. I got like 300+ games and with Game pass coming around, I’ll have to be doing a lot of deleting and reinstalling unless I buy a new SSD, which is what I plan on doing. Digital Foundry did a whole video on the best SSD’s for Series X. Some rival Microsoft’s own expansion module, just with the caveat that some functions won’t work. Just would like the faster storage option.

    Did you happen to play Cyberpunk from HDD? I'm just wondering that in PC I encountered asset streaming problems when driving car fast from 2xWD raid0 HDD's. I moved my game install to SSD and all problems vanished. Just curious if Xbox suffers from same issues.

    Only the new games made specifically for the Series X/S require the specific type of NVME. Any xbox one or 360 games can be stored on an external SSD and still work fine. My biggest request is MS to install legacy games to external and only new to internal.

    I love that expansion card that Microsoft/seagate made super simple and easy to expand the storage on the X/S. I hope they make bigger version of it in the future(2tb or 3tb)

      There will be different storage options later. Microsoft also said that other manufacturers will be able to make cards as well later which means we will likely see the price go down in a few years

      Yeah, It really bugged me that you have to open up the entire ps5 to replace the ssd. And getting the right one that will actually run the games, is kinda confusing.
      You can't just get any ol ssd for the ps5, even if it fits. So I like that we have these simple ones that are plug and play for my series x.

    The start or transfer of games isn't really an issue for me.
    Problematic is the performance overall while running on other ssds than the memory card.

    The process to move the data back and forth doesn't wear the internal ssd? I mean, the internal ssd should have a number of terabytes written lifespan right? So copying the data could reach that capacity faster.

    Question, probably a stupid one; but if I only have 1 game installed in the internal Xbox series x SSD, would a seagate Xbox expansion memory card be beneficial any? Or would be a waste of money?
    I only really play 1 game 99% of the time (The Division 2) & I’ll keep 3 or 4 other games my son & others play on an external usb device.

      Same here but buying the 1tb expansion pack doesn’t make any sense because for that money you could have bought a Series X (at least if it would be available). I guess transferring the games to an SSD or HDD does make more sense from a financial standpoint.

    Kinda funny how we sort of went back to PS1/PS2 days with "memory cards." :P
    But instead of just saves, we store full games.
    The price tag is still as premium as ever, though. :P

    Like Whodatizz602 said you can't run a next-gen (Series X|S) game directly off any external drive, you have to move it to the internal NVME SSD. but moving entre games from internal to eternal and vice versa is MUCH faster than deleting games and redownloading from Game Pass

      If it’s a stand alone drive, just plug in to the USB port and it will recognize it.

      You can store your S|X optimized games on external SSD, but not play from it. This is how I do it right now. Strangely I can run Rocket League (optimized version) from my external SSD. I tried it with AC Valhalla, but it tells me to copy from external to internal.

      @@samuelmusa5394 I‘ve bought the Series X and I love it. my brother-in-law owns the Series S. I am very impressed with this little console. I think I like the design a little better than the Series X. He plays on a 1080p Freesync Monitor and I guess this is a fine combo.

    The fact that u can get a series s for same money as seagate expansion drive which will give u another controller and 500gb is unbelivable. Can i connect series x to series s via home network to connect to its 500gb harddrive? Also would give me a second console to play downstairs

      No. The benefit only applies on the seagate expandable card (the expensive one). Any other ssd (third party) won’t be optimized.

    What is that actual point of transferring games from the internal to the expansion card? They both boot series x/s games, so you would literally never need to do that. Is it just to illustrate how fast it COULD be if you spend $220?

    You have to still install the upgrade for the game on your hard drive to use the x and s versions btw so yeahyou still have to buy one of these ones if you wanna play your new ones without reinstalling and upgrading it every time

    I think this is really meant for the X/S configured games, I noticed when I moved my game to a TB drive that I had that was for X/S that I couldnt play it and had to move it back to my Internal storage to be able to play it.

You can install regular Xbox games on your external drive and play them but can’t install series x|s optimized games on the drive, you have to install it internally in order to play

    Um... 1:40 he claims you can use an external drive. This is a half truth. Sure you can download them on that external, but the series x version of games will only launch from the internal or that memory card at the start of the video

      I think it's solely for storage, if you wanted to play a game from your external HD you'll have to copy the files over to your Xbox's internal storage

    I bought a 14TB HDD for storing games and playing old Xbox one and back compat games for about $180 and a $60 500 gb internal ssd with adapter to use for games I want fast loads but don’t need full speeds. Like games that are not enhanced yet

    FYI you can buy a pc external drive and format it on the xbox but the drive has to have photos on it first before you plug it into the xbox. Hopes this helps and saves you money. Cost me $60 for 2TB

    You can’t use any other card on series x but seagate ssd. If you want optimized gaming, then you can only store next gen games on the console or ssd expansion

      I just got an external HDD Western Digital version and I can't download any new games to it, in fact, some even original Xbox one and 360 games won't download to it. That's super dumb to force you to upgrade your storage if it's capable of handling it all on the older systems. I'll suffer with my speed and performance if it means I can actually play my game, so freaking dumb.
