Being perfect paints a picture to other ppl that u do everything well and u can't mess up and everything amazing but makes other ppl feel bad abt themselves and how they maybe rnt as loved if their not perfect. I love ur videos they explain things well!
As a twin, I’ve always been compared to my sibling “your twin looks like this, why don’t you look like that” or “your twin got this score, you should try to be like them” So the idea of perfect for me is to be better than my twin, which shouldn’t be my number 1 motivation to do things I should be striving to do things for me, not to impress others or to prove my worth
That's the same thing that happened with my and my sister. Growing up, my dads side if the family always favoured my sister for her looks, passion for makeup etc and I was very often ignored. It made me want to be better than my sister. Now, me and my sister are nothing alike, to the point where we cannot be compared due to how different we are, I dont want to be like her so I can be valued as an individual and cannot be compared
I 100% get this as I’m actually a twin myself and it gets very difficult to not be compared especially as a twin in life, when we are already compared to others in general. Although to keep this comment positive I will say you have your own unique self that is just as amazing no comparison ever needed, beautiful in your own way type shit hahaha so yes love that realization keep it up 👍
I personally think while perfection just isnt a thing we should still strive to be the best we can be while still being ourselves, because its one thing to accept yourself and not compare it to everyone else's lives but its another to allow yourself to not be the best u can be and per say have an unhealthy lifestyle or bad habits. Personally one of the traits i adore most in people are people who are constantly improving themselves and trying to be better even if they have issues.
ok, let's be honest we needed to hear this someday and finally talk about this topic on internet but didn't expect an icon that ms. Motherinnit or the Sarah Simons is actually made a video about toxic perfectionizm. Imperfections are cool and beautiful in bad and good ways but also that's one of the things that makes us human with mistakes and maybe sometimes "unperfect" bodies
In the nicest way possible, you remind me of my grandma. :] And I 100% agree that striving to only be perfect can be extremely toxic. You pull away from others because you think associating with them will make you imperfect. No one can, or ever will be perfect. You may have a “perfect” personality or something but there will always be something wrong with you. I don’t see how anyone could believe that they can be perfect. Perfect is so subjective, no one can be perfect in everyone’s eyes. Love the way you mentioned social media
I honestly really needed to hear this, recently someone in my life (i will not say who) has been comparing me to me when i was around 5-8 saying how i was ‘well mannered’ then or i was ‘being myself’ then, and this same person will tell me that i need to stop being negative, but say it like “you’re not a negative person, you’re just copying your brother.” Or “your brother has an excuse to act like this, he has mental issues, you don’t.” And at this point i feel like they are trying to make me ‘perfect’ which upsets me because that means they don’t like me the way I am. (Sorry for the small rant)
I relate to this as I have two siblings who are diagnosed with mental health issues, which puts strain on you because people have acted like I should be perfect too and like I should always be in a good mood because I am not diagnosed with mental health issues which is not fair and is frustrating sometimes. Hope it helps to know someone understands you too, wishing you the best
You literally made my day day i was so exhausted and after school i saw your video and thought "Oh she get a new video uploaded" i was so excited to watch you and i can it's a big true
I agree, personally for me I sink myself further in unhealthy life choices every time I frame my life as perfect and there’s nothing that needs any changing but recently I have better myself with that concept of it’s alright to be in a rut and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Adapt, reassess, overcome :D
sarah, you always come with such good takes and i always agree with them . you’ve honestly opened my eyes to some things that i am (and still kind of are) insecure about . ive been on this long journey of around 4 years to feel content with myself , and only until around the start of last year and your videos have really helped me on the journey to accept myself . i really give all my thanks to you and your oh so wise words
To be honest, you can't always give up your idea of perfection because not everyone wants things to stay the same, it is true that you shouldn't care about your imperfections because everyone has them, but if you want things to be different you have to work for the change, you have to work to get closer to what you think is perfect. But no matter what you do, you'll never be perfect. And I think its absolutely fine that way
I had a conversation about this with my mother earlier. I envied my ex friend cause every story or post they have on insta, they’re surrounded by a lot of people, which i assumed were their friends and they are living such a good life. While me on the other hand has no friends and i dont post on the media cause of how miserable i feel a lot. Same with face perspective. It makes me feel anxious. The imperfections that were taught by you today made me listen a little bit more. I thank you a lot Ms. Simons for showing me nothing is perfect, and that we gotta embrace the imperfections we have :)
You are perfect the way you are BECAUSE you are not perfect. If we were all "perfect" this would be one heck of a boring world to live in. Thank you, your videos are really refreshing as well as funny. :D
I absolutly agree with you! If you see others pretending to have a perfect life you ask yourself why your life isn't like this when in reality nobody's life is like that. Being happy is great, but it is completely normal to not always be happy. Nobody is always happy
This woman woke up today and chose to speak facts✨ I'm glad I found this video. If you think about it, perfection is such a funny concept as it is something different for every one of us, yet some people want to be perfect for EVERYONE. I personally think imperfection can be beautiful and interesting in so many ways, it just makes us so... human.
i think content creation runs in the family, because this is good content. i really like your channel, especially outside of you being tommy’s mom. you’re just a good content creator, i really like this and this video is great, i needed it today.
My mom taught me two things and this reminded me of those lessons AGGRESSIVELY! 1) Before you can love any aspect of yourself you have to achieve neutrality about it. Your job, your body, your intelligence. Things you can control, but it takes time? You can't truly love it until you are really neutral about it. And that ties so much into embracing "imperfections". Stop assigning value judgments to things that just ARE! And then, according to my mom, you can work on getting from neutrality to love. 2) Perfect and normal aren't real. Do your best THAT day. Be your best at THAT moment. And acknowledge that you can be tired, you can be gassy and your hair can look awful and all of that can make your best different from what it was before or will be in the future and that's okay. Cause it's still your best. You haven't failed if you've given your best and your best was in flux. BASICALLY, my momma is all about deconstructing value systems its truly exhausting for me sometimes and I screw up all the time. But you remind me a lot of her Mrs. Simons!
I really respect motherinnit and I just love how she talks about all of this but in a lighter way. Like she definitely gets on the subject but she’s calmer about it it’s super calming
This is why i love this channel. You keep it real, you make everyone feel valid and help many people with body issues and mental illnesses. This has honestly helped me so much. You are incredible thank you so much!
This wise woman is spitting straight facts right there! This is such a great video, really wholesome; thanks so much for the upload! We really need a lot more of this type of thinking in the world :)
She was talking about “ the 5 kids and a beautiful home” yeah maybe they have that but you have a wonderful family. Obviously I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. But I’ve seen Tom online and I can say CONGRATULATIONS to you for raising him. Not everyone has his personality, respect and kindness. Again I only see the internet version of him, but even so I think you have done an amazing job. I am only 18 and I’ve met a fair share of people and Tom would be the type of person I would hold close to my heart. He is a special one and I think you are to thank for that, and I’m certain he appreciates you very much.
thank you for talking about this, i struggled with not fitting in as a kid but now i'm glad i didn't. i've got really nice friend who i would never have found without being 'imperfect'. i also have started to accept my real interests which i bullied myself out of in an attempt to water down my personality to fit in or be seen as 'perfect'.
i really needed this mrs simons. thank you for talking about these topics! i’ve been struggling with my insecurities lately and this helped me to look past them and just, like you said, “embrace my imperfections.” tysm for being here to give advice
thank you motherinnits for this and this is super off topic but while watching your video i dropped on of my airpods in coffee, and was running around trying to dry it while listening with the other one. i stained a placemat while i was doing this
PLEASE BE MY THERAPIST PLEASE... u are my comfort now and you make me rethink so much on my life, Also CONGRATS ON 200k!!!! I LOVE YA SO MUCH, YOU ARE LOVED AND VERY BEAUTIFUL!!!
being imperfect is what makes us human. and if you act perfect then you wouldnt be human so being inhuman would be a flaw which means you literally cant be perfect by human standards because us as humans, we arent even perfect so just embrace the flaws and imperfections.
Your videos are literally giving me a new perspective of life. It's so easy to be caught up in what other people are doing that we forget that the most important thing for ourselves is to live and have fun without worrying about what other people think
perfectionism isn’t even something we can achieve, but so many of us strive for it to the point where all we do is hate and compare ourselves to others. if we could all just embrace who we are and work on being better people in general we’d all be so much happier and way more welcoming.
I remember once in class where the class rep of my class who ‘always’ passes her tests always get everything right gets full marks and once in class my teacher passed a test and said that she got a low percentage and everybody literally was shock and went like : ‘what??’ ‘Oh my gosh..’ and stuff like that and started saying like : ‘did she not study’ ‘how’d she get low points?!?’ She really started crying because of what she was getting told she ran out and than the teacher gave us a lecture about it it was sad tbh
Nothing and nobody is perfect. Know ur self worth. You are your own perfectly imperfect and you are loved that way. BE YOU! Being perfect can be really harmful cuz like everyone's jealous of u n all and it just sucks. Just remember perfection is not everything *SIMPLICITY* is the key.
