To prevent mindless eating before it starts, I found you have to be full in the first place, and to be full, you need lots of protein followed by lots of fats (preferably heathy ones but in a pinch a glass of whole milk will do the trick). This is why no one finds comfort/success in salads, even people who like salads like myself! Don’t cut out your carbs completely either, but try and keep protein and fats as the focus of whatever meal your having. I don’t know how much you like tofu Mrs. Simons, but if you can tolerate it, it’s perfectly bland enough to go in just about anything you like, even deserts, and a good protein packed fruit yogurt helps me perk up when the afternoon snacking urge comes along.
Now, the emotional part of you is still going to want to reach for something, and you’re not going to be able to stave it off forever, so have some proportioned goodies, like individually wrapped chocolates or lunch bag packs of crisps that you can grab 1 of when you need it. Put them somewhere harder to reach like the back of a cabinet too.
Of course, none of these prevent the stress leading you to the eating in the first place, but getting a good nights sleep and drinking 4-8 cups of water are good first steps to take to alleviate those stressors and also help with feeling fuller when you eat! These two things alone helped massively in turning my life around when I got in a bad spot.
Sorry for the very long comment, but I do hope it helps somewhat! Glad to hear from you again!

you remind me so so much of my own mom. your videos bring me so much comfort because of it. it's been several years since ive been able to see my mother in person, and even though we call every day and talk a lot all the time i still miss her a lot. watching your videos makes me feel less lonely and homesick somehow.
i can really relate to this struggle though. ive struggled with my weight all my life and its really disheartening to see all my friends able to be confident and happy with themselves and their own bodies when i cant be. i have to work extra hard to love myself, more than the people around me. binge eating when im stressed or sad has been a crutch for a very long time. lately its been bringing me down a lot. i think one thing that helps me when im in this kind of slump is drinking more water, or even coffee. instead of snacking ill make coffee. instead of binging ill drink a full glass of water and then put on a show i like. the craving is still there but by then im too full to eat anything so it deters the stress eating. i dont know if thats the way to do it though. i hope we can both find a good solution someday.

My therapist taught me that having cravings is normal, but to deny yourself your cravings will only make it worse when you finally break. Moderation is the key to anything. I am on a similar journey to you and I have found that a your eating is 80% of the job to heath. Exercising and all that other stuff ain’t nearly as important as your eating habits. Satisfy your cravings in small amounts, if you put too much in your plate don’t feel bad not finishing it if you get full before it’s gone. Build habits for yourself

Thank you for the video, you’re a very inspirational person!
When I get into a stressing situation and need comfort, I usually weigh the pros and cons of each source of comfort, and ask myself “is it worth it for a small sliver of comfort?”
I also relate to the situation, but it’s not really about food
I like shiny and pretty objects, like necklaces and rings, so what usually happens is that I see a pretty ring or something that I like, and I start wanting that item. But as soon as I get it, the want is gone, and all the excitement is gone. I just have a pretty object that I would only wear occasionally

I wish i could give suggestions but honestly I'm in the exact spot your in! It's like a constant paradox of feeling good, eating healthy, then getting in a rut of want and lust for comfort, and watching others take off. No matter how much you exercise, or how much weight you lose, know that you are still such a strong person for just talking about this point in life! Usually people skip over the part where there's struggling and go straight to how amazing they did. Don't feel like you have to measure up to any standards because the only thing that matters is how you feel about yourself, and if anyone has an issue with that, then that's their problem. You've inspired so many, hey, you inspired me! stay strong and keep being amazing!

You got this Mrs. Simons! You really help me be more confident in breaking my own cycle of snacking when my school work gets stressful. To get rid of that urge for me personally, I listen to music or play and instrument. It doesn’t have to be for long and it helps me get the breather that I need. When life gets crazy, just remember that it’s okay to take a break and practice self care. Take some time to experiment to see what works for you!

Hi Sarah! Something that really helped me was a calorie deficit, it means you can still eat all tasty comfort foods losing weight at the same time! It's very easy as well, personally I have an app where you can just scan the barcode and add it to your food diary, I've found it to be the most sustainable diet I've tried!

i always found that replacing one comfort with another was a good way to get past that rut! i always relied on food to be able to get me past hard times until i looked for something else, for me it was going for little runs, just tiny little ones, when i couldn't get bothered to go out id have my fiancé come with me, i found that replacing that reliance with food gradually really helped me understand how to navigate through harder times! but keep going babe you're amazing! you'll pull through!

i totally understand you mrs simons, i've been through this but i managed to reach my goal, i hope you reach yours too!! I managed to get out of this cycle of my own volition, I started by stopping eating bread, then soda and just ate junk when I went out or at parties. I didn't do almost any exercise to lose weight and I lost many weights. If it's your will you will get it!!!!

Something I do is I try finding comfort in other things. Some food does bring me comfort but like you said when im done eating I feel bad again and want more comfort. I found that reading helps bring me comfort because I can use it as an escape. I also have comfort items I carry with me so I know that something is there in arms reach to make me feel safe. I also have a giant sweet tooth and rather than eating sweets after sweets I instead will get hard candy or gum so that sweetness is there for long and it doesn’t make me feel as bad as eating a lot of junk. I hope this helps and again if it doesn’t I know you got this!

I recommend looking into intuitive eating! It’s not weight loss centered but health centered. Focusing on healthy habits may help you feel better in your body, which may result in some weight being lost. At the end of the day, our weight is just our gravitational pull to the earth, and does not define our beauty or who we are! I find that I eat better now after trying not to focus on the weight, and I’ve lost a little (probably gained some back but that was due to stress and depression)
    You’ve got this!

I never started a diet, but I recommend using your exercising time in a way that makes it fun.
*Example:* Go for a walk or bike ride; your reward will be a little sweet from the location you were going to.
My only advice when it comes to food would be trying to enjoy healthier foods that give you a lot of nutrients than less sugar.
*Example:* If you're badly craving a cookie how about you try out an apple (or any fruit you like).
But *don't* take a diet as a 'forever no eating sugar.' If you're going off to have ice cream with a friend or it's a celebration, take that opportunity to enjoy some sweets. *Most of all, make sure you have all the nutrients for your day to stay healthy.* It's more important to stay healthy than to lose weight *(DON'T* take that as a fact, but for *advice).*

I go through a similar thing except I’m 13 and going through puberty and Ik most young girls around my age gain some kilos (I’m Aussie) but I still understand the whole ‘doing fitness and loosing some kilos’ to then ‘ going out with my friends and eating rubbish because I need some comfort’ but that’s natural for humans, no one is perfect and if it makes you feel better about yourself just know that you aren’t alone (this is to anyone going through similar things) and many other boys and girls go through the same thing. And remember that everyone gains and looses weight in the lifetime and as long as you love yourself then nothing else matters 🤍🤍

  • @Bo-ft4gw
    @Bo-ft4gw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I’m pretty young and still growing, but I relate a lot to the weight problem. Don’t pay attention to the numbers, it just matters if you like how you look. It could be muscle, water, or just boob weight(for people born as girls). It doesn’t determine if you’re“pretty” or not, you’re only ugly if your personality is ugly. Like makeup, its super expensive and people just look better without it overall. Just some advice, if someone tells you you’re ugly or anything like that, then they’re the one in the wrong. It’s hard to follow that, I can barely follow my own advice. Have a wonderful day or night!

I'm going through something really similar. I've lost a lot of weight back in 2020/21 around where my country was on lockdown, but now i've gained it all again and i feel hella awfull, but i just can't break myself from the on going cycle of eating unwell. I know that it's bad for me and soon as i finish eating all of the food i just feel pity for myself, i feel just so bad. I wanna break the cycle too, but i don't know how, but i hope that someday that feeling of wanting to eat unwell will be gone.

      Hey Jaxine.
I just read your comment. Thanks so much for watching the vid.
I'm starting to try and get a bit healthier now as not only do I not feel right, but my skin is awful too- both dry and spotty at the same time!
So my plan at the moment is to focus on the stuff I put in my mouth, rather than on the stuff I shouldn't. Really take it back to basics. So I know that if I eat at least 5 portions fresh fruit and veg a day, and drink about 2 litres of water, my skin and my health will improve. I know that. I also know that refined sugar and process foods make me feel rubbish so I'm trying not to have them so much. BUT the focus is still on the 5 fruits and veg/ 2 litres of water.
I'm hoping that I'll stop craving rubbish food because I'm replacing it with the good stuff. Fingers crossed.
      Thanks again for watching.
      Sarah S xx

You are a fucking amazing human being.
It's really good that you don't deny that eating junk food when you feel stressed is unhealthy, since people understanding that they need to do something about it are more likely to get better, especially if they ask for help. (You know what they say, acceptens is the first step).
It may not work but I got 2 tips that hopefully can help
1: Find something that you find fun and relaxing that also isn't bad for you, the hardest part is finding something like that but if you do, you can instead do that when you crave junk food
2: you can make exercising and eating healthy a routine and put reminders or alarms to try and push yourself to follow it even when you don't feel motivated.
Since exercise makes you feel better having a routine and making sure you follow that might make you more relaxed.
And if you have a consistent sleep schedule and is consistent about when you eat and make sure you eat healthy it will increase your health which will make you feel better and hopefully less stressed. Drinking water is also important.
I hope that any of these help (doing both of these, if you can, is my recommendation. But again I am really not sure that this will make you feel better, I just know it helped me when I did it)
It's okay have cheat days and unhealthy, as long as it's only in small portions and not all the time, to not make the cravings worse.
    Sorry for the long comment

In situations where food is source a comfort, it's hard to admit dieting is an easy task. Humans need comfort to survive. So please do not feel guilty for searching and consuming your source of comfort at times you need to. If you would consider trying, maybe pick up cooking, instead of only relating the comfort of food just from the experience of consumption, practice relating the comfort to other aspects of food, think of it less as a quick shot of dopamine and more of appreciating and nourishing your relationship with food, slow waves of endorphins. There's this Danish study and lifestyle called hygge that focuses on comfort and happiness and you could look more into that, it might help you figure out healthier ways of finding comfort. But don't treat your diet as a race or challenge or anything competitive, it's a slow journey, some paths may work for you and some may not. Gradually you would try new things, new cuisines, different healthier alternatives. Don't only think of healthy food as a salad and a tasteless protein bar, there's no comfort in that, constantly eating those would probably leave you less healthy mentally. A hearty soup, a warm baked stuffed pear, dark chocolate on roasted hazelnuts, rice noodles bathing in a hot savoury broth, steamed lemon cakes with sweetened poppy seed milk are all healthy foods, and there's so much more, allow yourself to find comfort in things that are healthy for your physical health and mental health. Add variety to prevent from feeling bored of your food, resulting in wanting a quick option of mcdonalds or kfc. Be kind to yourself and set proportions on your foods, eating "unhealthy" food would only turn unhealthy if you're not controlling the proportions. I'm more than confident that you're capable of anything sarah, there's a whole community here to support your journey and available to love you no matter what

I think going to McDonald’s is fine just be more mindful on what you pick, I think that’s how I do it.
I also think going to McDonald’s shouldn’t be shamed on if it’s a treat.
But then again when I go to McDonald’s and haven’t had it in a while I order way too much.
    I’m still struggling with it.
I think for me it only hits me at night and I just crave all the bad things, like it’s become a habit like how desserts are part of a meal.

I don't have advice cause I'm in the cycle as well though in my case I'm very underweight so I need to eat and exercise to get stronger and I'll eat the nuts and beans and whatever but then I'll get stressed and its back to carbs and sugar and forgetting to work out. I say I'll get back to it once finals are over or when the weather is nicer and then I never do. I'll keep trying though. Something is better than nothing (unless the something is an unhealthy fad diet)

don't beat yourself up about it, obviously its not okay to avoid working through emotions and just going straight to comfort, but its only NATURAL to want food as comfort. food makes humans happy! so when i eat junk, i remind myself its not inherently wrong to want good tasting things. i had a therapist once tell me "when you use the word 'should' youre shoulding all over yourself" (sounds like shitting lol). so i never tell myself i SHOULD be eating healthier, I SHOULD be working out more, because it makes it so much worse, and its so unhelpful. i hope you can find some solace or guidance in the comment section, and i hope you become happier with the choices you make, no matter what those choices are!
