Meeting Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden and his wife Nathalie Dufresne Smith.
I was in Nashville to celebrate my 50th with Nat and the craziest thing happened.
On June 13th we were walking around an upscale part of the city and decided to browse a boutique called "Two Hippie Guys".
I noticed they sold acoustic guitars in the back in this small room. The store is not busy, maybe a handful of people so we go in and there's a guy a little older than me playing slide on a resonator guitar. So I listen a bit, say a casual hello and he says hello with a English accent.
Now I'm distracted by a few guitars on the wall named "Boucher".
At this point a woman walks in behind me as I'm pulling this acoustic with a french name off the wall. I look at the label and it says "Made in Quebec, Canada". So I say to Nat "Check this out, look where it's made".
The woman that walked in says "Are you from Quebec?" to which I reply yes I am of course.
She says "I'm from Nuns Island" so we start chatting it up and we're asking each other all kinds of questions.
Then she asks me if I'm in a band and I start telling her about my experience etc. and she says "That's my husband playing slide guitar".
My Nat says(Adrian's wife's name is also Nathalie) to her "Is he in a band and what's the name?" so the woman says "Yes he's in a band called Iron Maiden"...lol. Now I laughed big time because I knew who it was but didn't let on at all.
It was Adrian Smith...we talked and talked and even played stairway to heaven and laughed because we both said almost at the same time "We're going to get thrown out of the store for playing it"...too funny.
The four of us had a few laughs and talked for quite a while. Adrian and Nathalie were so nice, genuinely good people.
We had tickets for the "Grand Ole Opry" that night so we mentioned that to them and Nathalie, Adrian's wife says "If you can make it after I'll hook you up with VIP tickets and passes". So we're freaking out and said yes of course :).
So after a quick call to their agent I get a text message and an email of the details where to get our passes. We didn't want to keep them any longer so as we're saying good-bye Nathalie says "You now have free tickets and VIP for any show in the world for life, wherever Maiden plays".
Amazing!
There's more to the story but some of it was personal and it will remain that way!
