This just blows my mind - when you think of the insane level of touring Maiden have done pretty much non-stop over the past 40 years and the size of the venues they play, the biggest in the world, totally at the top of the pantheon of rock stars, and to see Adrian and Nicko enjoy it so much that they have side bands in small venues and cameo in each others songs. Its just beautiful man. I love Maiden and everyone in it, what a great band.
I just love how these guys are genuinely friends. The whole Maiden band, really. You can see the chemistry on stage when it’s all 6 of them. No one is getting butthurt that Adrian is doing his own thing, and instead supporting him. They have the BEST job on the planet, playing music with friends.
Having their side projects gives them that time away from each other so they can enjoy being with each other for those hundreds of shows on tour. It can't be easy at all so a bit of time away must help

I've been an Iron Maiden fan since I was 11. And Adrian Smith is still one of my favorite guitarists. I even named my younger brother, who was born when I turned 16, Adrian. And I never tire of this song. No matter who plays it.
Richie's wife, Julia, is having the time of her life, jumping and smiling! I would, too, if I were on stage with Nicko, Adrian and Richie! Iron Maiden, also, is really a family and as a fan for over 35 yrs, I do enjoy such gigs.

Adrian Smith is the man!! Always loved his vibe. Chill but handling business. He always had that punch and soul to his playing. I used to slide the balance on my stereo as a kid to his side on their live albums to hear all the nuances! 🎸

I love Adrian. He's such a cool, nice, humble guy. I had a beer with him in Toronto after a show he did with Bruce's solo band. I was blown away by his knowledge, love for music and just how down-to-Earth he is. As for his performance that night, combined with Bruce's killer vocals it was the best concert of my life.
The fundamentals of metal & rock is blues. That's why the guitar heros of the 80s are so phenomenal. They are all rooted in the blues. Feeling over mechanics
That's why maiden are a cut above most metal bands. They were real well-rounded musicians who could write songs with mood and atmosphere instead of just riffs and heavy tones
It's great to see Adrian doing his own thing and getting a little help from Nicko. That's what i love about Iron Maiden, they have a great chemistry that few bands have and they get along so well and support each other.

This is gonna come out wrong, coming from a 52 year old male former drummer, but I adore Nicko. As a fellow Christian, he is always so fun-loving, and never acts like the living legend that he is. He truly believes he is no better than anyone else. So, where I love for instance....Mario Duplantier, or Steve Harris. I can safely say I adore Nicko for being the beautiful human being he is.

Amazing. Maiden has been together for almost 5 decades, yes, almost 50 years . All the members are family. Seeing Nicko come out , even though they see each other all the time in maiden, it was still like greeting a friend and brother you haven't seen in awhile. Of course Nicko was his comical self! So cool!
It's good to see a famous musician from a very famous band still enjoying playing in small places. And they make a great sound (fortunatelly a very different sound from Iron Maiden's).

He owns a restaurant called Rock & Roll Ribs. Every year on the anniversary of its opening he throws a party in the parking lot. Local bands play all day with Nicko sitting in for a few tunes with each of them. So he plays on small kits with them. He does it for children's charities, and there's usually at least a thousand people there as the day goes on. He's got no ego, and tells funny stories as he walks around greeting everyone. Good times.

@@AFx3144 They've played it since 1986 Somewhere on Tour, until Adrian left the band in 1990. The only exception was Real Live Tour in 1993. Once Adrian rejoined Iron Maiden in 1999, "Wasted Years" was re-added to their list as well.
@@stuartsutton9350 It depends on your musical preference actually. I love Clive, he fitted perfectly to the early Iron Maiden sound, but he wouldn't have done what Nicko did in the 1980s. He was awesome when playing fast licks, better than Nicko, but when it comes to slower tempo rhythm sections, I prefer Nicko. The songs like "Where Eagles Dare", "2 Minutes to Midnight", "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", "Flight of Icarus", "The Trooper", "Powerslave", and the whole "Somewhere in Time" album would have sound much different. Nicko is a master of the slow tempo rhythms, I assume because of his jazz/funk background. Sometimes you appreciate a musician when he plays slower, and Nicko is one of those. If you prefer more of a "show-off"/"straight-in-your-face" type of drummer, then you will always choose Clive. Nicko is more laid back, in the background that blends in with the sound, who rarely step out of line; but also with better technical patterns, which in result, gives him more stamina - to play longer & more shows than Clive. It's not a surprise that Clive had problems during The Beast on the Road tour (one of the factors was his drumming style).

@@wakeupcanuck6763 I wrote 20 years or so because I am not so sure of for how long Maiden has been keeping Wasted Years in their setplay. I remember that the band spent a few tours without performing it in the past. But they brought it back. I do love this tune.

@@AFx3144 They've played it since 1986 Somewhere on Tour, until Adrian left the band in 1990. The only exception was Real Live Tour in 1993. Once Adrian rejoined Iron Maiden in 1999, "Wasted Years" was re-added to their list as well.

Nicko is an absolute legend.
He definitely is but he's not Maiden's best drummer. That accolade goes to Clive Burr
@@stuartsutton9350 It depends on your musical preference actually. I love Clive, he fitted perfectly to the early Iron Maiden sound, but he wouldn't have done what Nicko did in the 1980s. He was awesome when playing fast licks, better than Nicko, but when it comes to slower tempo rhythm sections, I prefer Nicko. The songs like "Where Eagles Dare", "2 Minutes to Midnight", "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", "Flight of Icarus", "The Trooper", "Powerslave", and the whole "Somewhere in Time" album would have sound much different. Nicko is a master of the slow tempo rhythms, I assume because of his jazz/funk background. Sometimes you appreciate a musician when he plays slower, and Nicko is one of those. If you prefer more of a "show-off"/"straight-in-your-face" type of drummer, then you will always choose Clive. Nicko is more laid back, in the background that blends in with the sound, who rarely step out of line; but also with better technical patterns, which in result, gives him more stamina - to play longer & more shows than Clive. It's not a surprise that Clive had problems during The Beast on the Road tour (one of the factors was his drumming style).
Clive could never have played the Nicko Maiden songs with one bass drum
