      Not sure if he's underrated bud, I mean the dude's got a lot of fans all around the world, but I know what you mean, people are always talking Jimi Hendrix, Eric Jonhson, Jimmy Page, and they forget that Adrian Smith is a genius too.

      @@LeandroDelPrete I think it's more because metal isn't as popular or prevalent as rock, and those guitarists also influenced arguably thousands of bands because they were so early on.

      @@noah2418 You have a point. We can't deny guitarrists like Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi and other geniuses shaped the history of heavy metal. But Adrian deserves a spot right there as well!

    You have earned my respect for having the Sea Of Madness solo on the list!. Such a great short solo. People who like learning solos should really listen to it, there's more going on in that solo than you realize.

    Everybody say Bruce Dickinson has changed the Iron Maiden's level, but for me the first guy to do it was Adrian Smith. It's very clear the difference between first album to the second one.

    I know this is Adrian only compilation but I have to say it: I love the chimestry and balance in Iron Maiden works. It doesnt mattet if its Adrian, Davey or Janick, I think we have a nice band to listen solos, if it not the best. Truly living legends.

      From what I've seen, lots of people ate absolutely fanatical about the first three albums. But I find Somewhere in Time the best Iron Maiden album, even better than Powerslave.

      I always thought "Somewhere in Time" and "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" were Maiden at their best. I completely understand why Adrian felt "No Prayer For the Dying" was a step backwards. Adrian was sadly missed when he left. No offence to Janick, but it just wasn't the same without Adrian.

    I have always loved adrian’s playing, i feel he got better as time went on but he has always been a genius, his solo on hallowed be thy name for some reason has always gave me the chills. Huge inspiration!! Up the irons 🤘🏻🤘🏻

      Hallowed was one of the first Maiden songs I listened to, and I was immediately hooked up. It is definitely a masterpiece. And Maiden wouldn't be the giant it is without Adrian.

    Can definitely hear that Smith was a major part of Somewhere in Time and of Seventh Son. Those two albums were peak maiden for me.

    Prodigal Son is one of the best solos I've ever heard, phrasing and tone are off the charts.

    I don't care what people say about the synthesizer sound; Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son had some great shit on those albums! Honestly Killers is my favorite but Somewhere In Time is my second. Maiden forever! If you don't like pics off!

      Yeah, Iron Maiden evolved as a band so they felt the need to integrate synths to their music, but I honestly feel like every album has their charm, and I really love the first two albums with Di'Anno, they are raw and powerful!!!

      It's easily top 3 if you consider how important the song is to Iron Maiden's career. But in terms of creativity and technique, I think Somewhere in Time is better than Piece of Mind. Really tough choice man, I love them all!!!

    How can such a list leave out Adrian’s awesome lead on “Rime of the Ancient Mariner!” Live New Jersey 2008. He revamped it. One of Maidens best songs.

    Always thought Leppard missed a great opportunity by not giving Adrian the gig after Steve Clarke left us, sure Viv is a great guitarist but Adrian would have added his unbelievable guitar skills with sublime song writing but saying that I was so pleased he rejoined Maiden and went back home

      He would certainly be a great replacement for Steve Clarke, but I believe Adrian wanted to do his own thing at that time. Since his projects didn't hit the spotlight (they were pretty good though), he eventually surrendered to good old heavy metal when he joined Bruce.

      @@LeandroDelPrete I thought his ASAP project was fantastic and the psycho motel he did was amazing, if Leppard took him on board he would have taken them to another level but he would have outshone Phil Collen on every single riff and solo, but Viv is a better player than Phil in my opinion

    I do love Iron Maiden and I've been a fan since 1982. Adrian is a really great guitar player! I can't define his best guitar solos because they are too many and therefore it's too difficult. They're all fantastic! Maybe, the one which is somehow outstanding is his solo on 'The rime of the ancient mariner'. Very cool!

    Before I even listen to em. The second solo after Dave's on 'Somewhere in time " is epic as is the "Powerslave' i think Adrian's leads are more meticulous and arranged better. I mean "Die with your boots on" "even "Killers" are just more well thought out leads. I mean Adrien is more like Tipton as far as not just shredders but beautiful soloist.

      Yes! He actually writes his solos instead of improvising in studio. That makes all the difference. Adrian is the David Gilmour of heavy metal.

    Yes Adrian is just like the fine cover of smoothness on a asphalt highway....everything thing is bound together and no accident occurs even if you drive very 200 kmph.

    Ele é o melhor do Iron Maiden na guitarra e compondo afinal ele escreveu os maiores hinos do Maiden como 2 Minutes to Midnight, 22 Acacia Avenue, Sea Of Madness e Wasted Years e ele faz os solos mais épicos só acho chato o Gears tentar fazer os solos junto ao Adrian ele faz todo doido e fora de sincronia

    Somewhere in Time è da sempre il mio album preferito anche per la presenza di assoli fantastici di Adrian... Oltre al sound unico e innovativo per l'epoca e la copertina a mio avviso più bella dei Maiden.

    Smith elevated both Di'Anno and Dickinson--two vocalists who already powerful on their own. I wish we would have had an album with Adrian Smith performing together with Blaze Bayley.
    I know nothing of music theory. Can someone who knows music theory explain, in layman's terms, what I have been really hearing all these years, please?

    Have been a Maiden fan since 82. Maiden for me has always been Dave and Adrian on guitar, playing off of each other!! Their different styles were ways a part of the Maiden sound. Kind of like Glenn and KK were with Judas Priest. I understand Steve and his loyalty to Janick after Adrian left and came back. I think Janick would be more accepted if he was more traditional in his on stage performance and not his crazy on stage personality. But yes, Janick is a very good guitarist in his own right.

      I love it too, but I ended up picking Only the Good Die Young and Stranger in a Strange Land as favourites. Really hard to choose! I really love The Duellists, it has one of the best instrumental parts ever!

    Dave murray inspired me to start playing the guitar back in 1986 as he is one of my top 5 guitar players but adrian smith in my opinion is better than davey, more bluesy player with feeling.

      I feel the same. Murray's fast solos can be quite impressive for a beginner, but once you start to understand what makes a great solo and how difficult it is to "speak" through the guitar, you start to admire guys like Adrian.

    When you think back probably most of the heavy bands today wouldn't exist without the influence of Maiden and Judas,Saxon,Motorhead and b4 them Sabbath,Zepplin,Deep purple etc etc.Judt goes to show how British bands led the way in heavy metal music.
