And seeing how this song is the main thing to start the fight where Steven shuts Greg out of his life, it makes sense this is the part where “Mr Universe” gets invited to “the party”

Ok, so look.
We all love Grego, and he’s a great father. But I do think he could’ve handled that situation *much* better.
Steven starts to show anger about how he was raised with too much freedom and how Greg never actually gave him structure, and Greg’s response to this is telling Steven he’s proud of him immediately after he flips the car and almost kills him. Not the best move.
Yeah, I think Steven was expecting an apology.
@@munkee_man Not necessarily an apology, more like a punishment. He was borderline neglected most of his life, left to his own devices since Greg wasn't around often and the Gems left him alone many times to do missions and rarely gave him the time of day (two episodic examples are Together Breakfast and Rose's Room). He didn't really have any rules to follow or consequences to his actions, aside from trauma. What he wanted was Greg to be upset at him messing up and give a punishment, and when Greg instead praised him, Steven realized Greg didn't actually understand what he'd meant by saying he was like mom (wanting to be free of rules without actually thinking the consequences through, and having your child suffer as a result of that decision). But an apology was also needed, lol.

Which of these two episodes was your favorite? I have a feeling you enjoyed Mr. Universe before the end, but Fragments was clearly the more cathartic of the two. Personally i enjoyed Fragments for the obvious feel-factor, but i do think Mr. Universe was an important episode, as due to his low amount of screentime Greg was dismissed by the fandom as just a perfect father whos always there for steven. I think it was important to have people realize hes not perfect either, and even if he was a good father he wasnt a perfect parent, and had his own agendas which ended up harming Steven in the longrun. Its as i say, when you're raised in an extreme, you swing the other way equally as hard.
Very late reply, but while I enjoyed both, I like Mr. Universe a bit more.
One, _I always love a Greg episode_
And two, it provided some needed backstory to his character, and explained a lot about his situation.

That resentment towards your parents for not pushing you to do things like take up sports or learn more languages when you were younger is so relatable. I also think this episode highlighted Greg’s shortcomings as a parent which I never thought would happen bc subconsciously we, similarly to Steven, have put him on a pedestal as this perfect father figure only to realise that he’s reaaaaally not. Not taking Steven to a doctor ever in his life or letting him have any semblance of a real education, regardless of Steven being a gem, was already iffy? And while Greg is always lovely, all this time he was doing the exact same thing Rose was doing, which was project his own childhood issues onto Steven and not taking into account what Steven NEEDS. I had no complaints about Greg just being wholesome and adorable (it’s why we love him so much!), but these last few episodes really added some much appreciated complexity.
It's the classic situation of a parent who had authoritarian parents thinking being permissive is better.

I just noticed that younger Steven always wanted to be just like his mom yet the second Jasper calls him “My diamond.”, he gets super scared. And even in the episode where Steven was able to control White Diamond, he goes freaking mad and tries to shatter White.
He now knows what she's done. And he doesn't want to be affiliated with her.
If I spoke to my parents the way Steven did to Greg, I would have been dead a loooooong time ago

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, your edits are interstellar. As serious of a revelation as it was, you realizing what “Fragments” meant was hilarious. I know it means putting a lot of extra effort into your videos but I think it really pays off and more reaction youtubers should be putting that extra effort. Keep being awesome and stay safe!

Can't wait for the finale. Haven't seen the early drop that happened so I can watch the rest altogether. But I'm scared.
Steven is not okay.
What's really tragic about the fight between Steven and Greg (which was mostly one-sided on Steven's part, to be honest) is that neither one is completely on the wrong or right; yeah, maybe Greg SHOULD have given Steven more structure to his life than just letting him run around doing whatever, but Steven is so wrapped up in his anger that he doesn't see why Greg would want to raise him the way he did. Not to mention, there are a number of hints that suggest that Greg's parents were more than just restrictive, such as photos of Greg looking increasingly miserable, and ESPECIALLY all the unopened letters from Greg addressed to his parents, which suggest that even after rebelling the way he did he at least wanted to reconnect and be on good terms with them, but they cut him out completely.
The saddest part of the episode was Greg's reaction to Steven getting mad, crashing the car, and nearly getting them (or at least Greg) killed; the fact that Greg doesn't appear to be the least bit upset about it and even says he's proud of Steven for chewing him out, even going so far as to say he wished called out his dad like that, sends the message to Steven that a.) he's not taking Steven's frustrations seriously and b.) he's once again prioritizing his own ideas of freedom over what's actually best for Steven... but really, you can tell Greg recognizes that Steven is upset and is trying to cheer him up and reassure him, but doesn't fully understand how to approach it in this particular situation. It's an incredible humanizing moment, when you realize that while Greg is definitely a good guy, even he is flawed, though unfortunately he's flawed in a way that reminds Steven a bit too much of his mother, which is the last thing he needs right now.
Of course this adds to the overarching narrative, as it means Steven has one less person to talk about his problems with, which leads him to going to the one place the others would never think to look for him: with Jasper, aka THE most toxic influence he could have at this vulnerable stage.
I both love and hate the downward spiral this is all taking.

Yeah these episodes were crazy!! I was looking forward to seeing how you would react to them. I was so tense while watching them, just waiting for the worst to happen! And gosh, when i watched fragments it certianly did feel like the worst thing happened. What Steven is going through right now is terrible.
I also feel bad for Jasper. She finds a “new” purpose (which is arguably not new, since she’s intending to serve her diamond again. That diamond being Steven this time) and he tells her to find something to do with her life. She’s always clinging on to the not so healthy approaches ( maybe choices is the right word here instead of approaches) but tbh being a loyal soldier is probably what makes her happy. I’m not saying that being a loyal soldier is necessarily a bad thing, but i guess she can’t really do that now due to the changes that have happened with Homeworld.
She should have known that Steven wouldn’t be alright with her serving him. Though i remember in an earlier epiosde of Future she was talking to Steven and said something like “you will never be my diamond”. Something to that effect, her not acknowledging him as a diamond. So it’s like she never understood the fact that Steven doesn’t want to be her diamond, or anyone’s diamond for that matter. He never wanted to hold authority over her like that or to force her to do anything.

I'm watching this after the finale... hoo boy, let's see the damage here.
1. Rebellious teen stuck in a constricting, abusive household finds freedom in the outside world and abandons family to take on a new life and persona. "You're just like Mom!"
2. As Steven said in the episode, he went to Jasper cause he didn't feel like he could go to anyone else.
3. Chad Steven, steven's mental state making him look like Jasper with increased height, muscle mass, and his hair poof sometimes resembling her old helmet.
The Finale was great... but more on that when that reaction is up

Steven really killed her damnnnnnn
He's gone from Steven, to Pink Steven, to Quartz Steven, to Diamond Steven, and finally Corrupted Diamond Steven. Each having a Diamond theme that, the more further he gets in being more powerful, and unstable, the louder and more corrupted the Diamond theme gets. Culminating in the full on Corrupted Diamond-Godzilla that has the potential to do what the Gem Empire failed to do thousands of years ago.

A suddenly a terrible realization hit me (best part of this video) 8:10

Steven does not need a therapist, at least in a real life situation AND if the show will not address that it is the fault of the Gems, the parental figures.
It is of course Steven's fault too, but only when he was a teenager (Steven Universe Future).
If you doubt that somebody having a similar situation to Steven doesn't need a therapist, I recommend everybody to read Trauma Model. Some parents are great at murdering their children's soul.
"The trauma model of mental disorders, or trauma model of psychopathology, emphasises the effects of physical, sexual and psychological trauma as key causal factors in the development of psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety[1] as well as psychosis,[2] whether the trauma is experienced in childhood or adulthood. (Edit) The real people who were running from their problems were perhaps mostly the Gems. Steven actually faced his problems, even if in a disturbed way but he had to find a solution, an answer. I mean that's just an obvious statement from the point of Trauma Model, that they the parents, are not in fault.

I watched the ending and I can say that they didn't do a very good job of addressing their faults (The gems), so it shows as a Jekyll-Hide kind of person, "I love you" "But I tortured you" kind of feeling. (They show that "NOW I can be there for you" but not then.) But Diamonds and Greg did great addressing their faults. Obviously there is plot holes, as in, Why wasn't then Greg protecting him? Why didn't Amethyst do something? Why didn't Garnet do something? Why didn't Diamonds tell anything? Why didn't Connie do something? But some of those holes are in the past, where perhaps Sugar didn't think of it as important. It was her fiction.
But it's still a step ahead that, If it's a "perfect world", as Sugar says; her fiction doesn't have evil (Not really sure about that but-), if it's a perfect world...then they do love him and, that's good and that Garnet said "If he still believes he is a monster, he'll stay one", which is on Trauma model; "The parent blames the victim that he is the reason everything is bad. And he'll believe that."

Though EZ PZ (One youtuber) did talk about Steven's character and personality and how it has problems within the idea that Steven is good, or that he should be forgiven, as in a cartoon character.
And also mentioning that.. All that we see here, could just be... bad writing. Personal issues in a "kid's show", etc.. Yeah..
So many people compare Jasper to Bakugo or Vegeta or a Jojo character, but you know who she reminds _me_ of? Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist. They're both aggressive, short-tempered brutes who love to dominate and crush their enemies, hate humans (or organic life in general, in Jasper's case) and are harboring secret bouts of self-loathing. Not only that, but they have similar physical qualities, both being muscular, having long messy hair, deep, raspy yet feminine voices and, unless I've missed something, I'm fairly positive that Jasper's a shapeshifter, just like Envy.
