Dont forget, Steven is having a midlife crisis at the age of 16/17. He's at the tail end of puberty, never having been inducted in a proper school system with kids his age, and and the kids he does hang out with are living their young adult lives. The kids he's to closest in age are Peedee, who is working on developing a business mind; Connie, who is studying constantly (I'm dying to know what she's been up to during this development), and Onion. Just Onion. He doesn't have anyone to confide in to help inflect and reflect on himself. He can't bounce off his troubles on people who can't understand his dilemma, and those that can are his three maternal figures. He's sixteen. He's not gonna dump his feelings on his dad or his three moms. At least that's how I'm interpreting it. He's trying to be independent, but he's now learning that for all his traits that made him so endearing and loveable, can be overbearing, suffocating, and dangerous in excess. I think "Little Graduation" is a perfect encapsulation of Steven's internal conflict. Everyone is graduating. From the fun and weird people we knew in the past to someone independent and accomplished we may never see again in the future. But Steven hasn't graduated yet. Jasper's words from episode 1 ring louder here. He truly feels like he's nothing without his friends. :/ And "Prickly Pair" shows the trouble of finding someone to talk to. You hold it in and when you finally find someone to talk to, who you think you can trust, you just let it all out. The problem the episode had was that Steven vented to someone he didn't know very well, and couldn't give a positive reflection. Just meaningless imitation of his own gripes without understanding Steven. Let's ignore the fact the pumpkin is basically a babbling baby. He's so full of love that he's drowned himself in it. His love is backed up and needs to let go, but Steven is afraid to. He fears if he does, he'll be left with nothing but an empty cup. Sorry. This turned into a TED Talk. (and ep1 of season 2 but shhhhh) there's also: *hallucinates while having a traumatic flashback while fused as stevonnie* *gives himself up to homeworld to save everyone even though he knows they'll kill him* *panics when greg gets tangled in a garden hose* "are you okay?! are you hurt?! do you still love me?!" steven has ALWAYS needed help! it's just been shown more explicitly in future!

"I didn't see any of this!" "That's because it was private!" Two things of note here. 1) It's a really nice lesson to say that you don't know (and shouldn't know) what everyone is doing at all times and that things like that (who you're dating) shouldn't be needing the approval of someone else (though it is nice to have). 2) It's a nice way to say "We only had a certain amount of run time delegated to us and we'd love to give you more but we can't, so this will have to suffice." And a thing for Prickly Pair: his treatment of Cactus Steven is pretty much a direct equivalent of how he treats himself. Will care and attend to it to please others until it becomes problematic, then tries to box it away, only to have it come back with a vengeance and be repressed. Then of course it has too much and lashes out and becomes *_incredibly_* damaging to everyone, gets calmed by something nicer coming up, then leaves. Cactus Steven is the perfect metaphor for how Steven's mentality has been going and how that'll affect him since Cactus Steven mimes Steven *_perfectly._*
Remember the demands Aquamarine and Eyeball made of Steven in Bluebird? - Destroy your house (Cactus Steven most likely) - Bubble your friends (Done by Steven himself in Little Graduation) - Burn Little Homeworld to the ground (???) Time to start panicking!
I know there was a lot of build up towards Lars and Sadie's relationship, but honeslty I like the way they did it. Lars went off and did his own things. Sadie moved on and did her own things. Lars is happy that Sadie is happy, and he's moving on. Because that's how real life works sometimes. Sometimes stuff just doesn't work out. And how they phrased it, it genuinely seems to me like the two tried to date, but in the end they just weren't right for each other now. Both of them were really toxic to each other in the earlier seasons, and now that they've both grown, I would be kind of nice to see them have a healthy relationship, but I don't mind this route either. And in real life, especially as a teen, things change without you knowing. People can be together one day and be apart another and not tell you why or even that they were together in the first place.
I mean their entire relationship seemed to be a weird on-and-off-again deal where they were both using each other as a crutch in their respective situations, and weren't able to move past that. Now that they're healthy and complete people who have had two years to explore a relationship that ISN'T defined by a shitty job and constany bickering, it really could have gone either way; it could have turned out that the stress and personal hangups were what was keeping them apart, or that they're what was keeping them coming back together. it's just rare to see such a realistic and nuanced interpersonal relationship on tv
Agree completely! This progression felt very natural to me. So while I wouldn't have minded Lars and Sadie getting together, I think I honestly appreciate this more. Sometimes things just don't work out, and that's okay. I'm glad that this cartoon can show that, that you don't have to work tirelessly just to make a relationship work, and instead find someone better for you while still remaining on good terms with your previous partner. That's a very important message to send, imo.
Steven: But when did this happen? I didn't see any of this? Me: Ok Steven I know this is gonna be hard to understand since you're the main character but side characters CAN have a life without you involved.
The fun part is how the show is structured so we see things as Steven sees them - following his viewpoint, which means there's things happening we don't get to see. It bothers me a little since it does limit how much we can see of characters *not* Steven developing. Then Steven's character development became a ticking time-bomb of awkward. Because people are *complicated*, and Steven Universe (the show) seems to be one of the few shows to GET that out there. The last pair of episodes from last year (these two) were uncomfortable to watch - but they were important to signal everything is NOT fine with Steven. This show is not going to avoid considering the kind of crap he went through since "Gem Glow" began our window into his life - something which isn't new for the show at all. But the older people get, the more baggage there is, and it's no surprise for someone like Steven who has had a BUSY few years? He's having an emotional breakdown, slowly, and has no idea what to do about it. It doesn't even seem he's aware something should be done about it, but . . . when your mystical gem powers are hooked into your emotions in ways you still don't understand? *This is dangerous to yourself and everyone around you.* Here's the real fun part: There's no easy answer for this. "Get therapy" is not a quick, simple fix. Therapy doesn't simply make problems like this go away - it helps you cope with them, and get control back. And while it's possible to do it on your own, I . . . don't think it's safe to suggest anyone (much less Steven) "suck it up and deal with it". It's not just "Steven needs therapy", it's "therapy is something everyone needs now and then, in some form". How many characters on this show have had major life problems which needed working out? (Answer: Almost all of them, even someone as "stable" as Garnet.) It's just Steven's turn in the barrel now.
Also the fact that steven his whole life had to be somebody else's therapist (w the gems usually) so he thinks he has to still do that, and it's not like he thinks hes better the everyone else, it's just that he's been put under so much pressure by the gems without them noticing, him feeling like he had to be the best to hang out with them must have fucked him up a lot and in glad the show is finally addressing how fucked his childhood was
It's not like Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, and Greg are inherently bad for it turning out the way it did, either. In reality it's just that their unresolved emotional baggage made the impressionable young Steven feel like he needed to help lighten the load and never learned how to cope with that properly. It was never intentional but it's such a nice thing to show, since it happens in real life, too. The stuff kids can learn from their parents aren't just *_good_* habits, but also *_bad_* habits, and the difference is that the kid doesn't have the experience and foreknowledge of how to deal with such a thing. So... Steven's kinda been screwed from the beginning, considering how much emotional and physical baggage his mom wrought on others (that even affected his other caretakers).

deadass his entire thing in season 1 was that he wasn't being treated like a proper member of the crystal gems, and his endless attempts to become someone worthwile; and while he was dealing with that, his moms started accidentally dumping their baggage on him. this led to him internalizing that what makes him valuable to his family and by extension the world is his ability to play therapist to everyone's problem, and that worked out for him okay because his home life is a mess (especially because it slowly grows to encompass Giant Alien Space Nazis) but now that he has no one left to fix he's left to stew in his own problems without wanting to let anyone else in on it, because during the most formative time of his life he learned the only way for people to accept and love him is to swallow his own issues and try to fix everyone else's

Hearing your analysis after the video really hit me hard. I didn’t realize how I relate to Steven. I’ve always done everything I can to help my friends and everyone around me. Of course now I know I wanna be a therapist but last year 2 of my friends had relationship stuff and never talked. This happened with 2 of my friends who both had boyfriends and one of them was a friend of mine. I tried to help them and (similar to Lars and Sadie) tried to fix their relationships. I know now that it’s not my place to be a part of the problem. I’ve been friends with a huge group but they are slowly drifting away and it breaks my heart. I tried to get one friend to come back and felt like I had to have her come back when really that was her choice because she just wasn’t comfortable with some of the members of my group. It’s crazy to finally realize this. I still wanna help people and I decided sometime last year that I wanna be therapist. Thanks for doing that analysis. It really did open my eyes. (Also kinda side note but when you mentioned about Steven and how he might leave beach city I got hit hard with feels like if he does I know I’m gonna cry.)

Which is valid, since for most of his life everyone around him was kind of a dipshit and every time he helped them change they became less of a dipshit? but still yeah he has some Accepting to do
I think what he's most freaked out about regarding change is when change happens in the way he doesn't expect it to, or in a way that doesn't follow his direction. He's spent so much time helping everyone change themselves, that it's become a natural and comforting state for him. He knows what happens next. But now, that isn't the case. Everyone can change without him. And, suddenly, change seems so much scarier.
They actually haven’t all been back home for two years. Steven has spent most of that travelling the galaxy and dismantling the empire. Plus Sadie and the band had been on tour a bunch of times and were at the start of the series.
I found this on tumblr,you need to read this blue :^( I have seen barely any posts about Steven’s mental health. You’re all racking up his anger to ‘being a teenager’ but that’s so clearly not the case. Here is a couple of screen shots and quotes for evidence: Episode 1 "Little Homeschool"; “You’ve always been a fusion, you’ve always had your friends! You are NOTHING without them” in the full clip of this, you can just see face drop when she says that. So many times he’s been almost killed and had a gem yell at him in his face about him being worthless, this is probably a trigger for him hence why he started crying and turns pink. Also him snapping and turning violent, he never wants to feel helpless like he always has to when a gem tries to kill him. He’s been through it so much. And even after HE apologises when he didn’t need to. PTSD triggers like this that send you into a rage makes you feel like a awful, awful person afterwards. Episode 4 (¿ Volleyball ;; “This was all Pink Diamond!” “My mom?..” he’s put back and disturbed by even the mention of his mom, I think it’s trigger for him. And right after - He apologise and vaguely explains why he turned pink, he looks so uncomfortable and scared at the mention of her and while explaining his reaction “It doesn’t matter! I’m gonna fix it” he literally starts shaking, blocking his ears and holding his head. “Stop it! I can’t deal with one more horrible thing that she did!” He snaps at a trigger, and starts getting incredibly angry and emotional “I don’t wanna hear about it! I don’t even wanna THINK about it!” Just his voice when he says this, he sounds so scared. And his delusional yelling and movements just scream how much he’s put off by his mum. (HELP him) There’s probably gonna be so much more in the future. But please stop just calling this ‘hormones’, this isn’t how hormones work. This poor kid has a mental illness. And even in the last 5 seasons there’s so much more for him to be absolutely traumatised for. Also Steven Cactus is a metaphor for Steven’s struggle with mental illness(es) From the beginning you can already tell that Steven is isolating himself. Distancing he’s feelings from the gems by locking himself away in the dome, taking care of plants that he names after people who he feel left behind by. Isolation is a thing constantly done by people with any sort of mental illness. And he even names the plants after people who he feels have left him behind. He doesn’t even seem to enjoy gardening that much. “What am I doing?-“ “Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl aren’t even impressed-“ to me I feel like he’s doing this just so he can be alone. Mindless tasks to pass the time so he doesn’t have to think about the feelings and truama. Repression is something that can lead to horrible things if left alone (and it does, but we’ll get to that in a second). And in cases of repression and isolation there’s no one you trust or want to burden with your feelings. So often people will turn to themselves, which can be okay but When you start turning into your own therapist while simultaneously being the patient with no additional support from others is unhealthy and unstable. If your mentally ill and already don’t think highly of yourself and you have trauma and past events that feel like they validate everything awful about you in the past or present, it just can’t work. Cactus Steven is a carbon copy of Steven, he’s talking to himself every time he vents at it or gets angry at it. And when Cactus Steven repeats what Steven says It’s those thoughts and feelings being echoed in his mind, bouncing around, but ignored and repressed. And when people start hearing those feelings, seeing the effects of the repression and isolation, they naturally worry. You could even see it as maybe a part of Steven reaching out for help. A small part of him yelling out signals and showing the effects vaguely, but he still runs away when it starts happening. There’s always a part of you that reaches out despite if your general thoughts are to hide your suffering. And it can be frustrating Getting angry at yourself for wanting to ‘burden’ others despite it being the right thing, but mental illness makes you blind to that. This bit broke my heart though, seeing Steven get so mad at himself for showing any signs of him being mentally tortured by himself because he’s so scared to tell anyone. And what Steven does with these feelings of anger and showings of illnesses He literally puts it in a box, ignores it and walks away (I don’t even need to explain this). But this is the part where the effects of repressing trauma and intense feelings comes in. When feelings are left alone and unresolved they malform into an amalgamation of all those feelings, breading new kinds of depressing and hurtful thoughts on their own. It’s ugly and hard to deal with, especially when you feel like have to only rely on yourself. And Steven just keeps walking away from it, and it worsens, and worsens, and Worsens. It’s gets worse and worse until those feelings become so deformed and intense that everyone can see the problem now. Everyone has to work to soften the sharp thoughts of represented mental illness. But in the end Steven fixes it, by himself, again. He has to be the one that calms himself down, again. He has to be the on that works himself through trauma and depressive episodes, again. He has to save himself and the gems. Again. But even in the end, after everyone saw the heap of mess in Steven’s messed up mind, he still refuses help. I’m super interested to see what they do with Steven’s mental health, this is all so interesting. Alsoooo Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a real disease. You may suffer from PTSD after living or seeing traumatic events such as war, hurricanes, rapes, physical abuse or a serious accident. Posttraumatic stress disorder causes you to feel stressed and afraid after the danger has passed. Ok, I know that this is very obvious, but it is for you to compare it with what is happening with our boy Steven, I do not know if the truth is going to be corrupted but I also do not say that it will not happen. please someone help him :(
I hope to help with your analisis. The phrase "I think I have said enought" so simple yet it holds a powerful meaning. It ties with the fact he feels everyone needs his help. Tho this phrase makes it clear he is aware he needs help. He is aware of how much he is hurting. But doesn't want to bring it up to the gems because he thinks they are finally happy and that they can move on from the things that marked them and if they know ehat has been going on with him maybe will end up reverting the gems back to their previous self. Also Like you said people moving on is scaring him cause he mever thought on an after scenary. And with a messed childhood is not like he can know what is average for a kid anymore even when he had Connie as an half-example. Also kinda sad we haven't seen her. I wonder if his "fits of rage" would also unleasg with her... maybe that will be the breaking point? I don't know I am just rambling now xD. I wonder too if the "There is always someone to fight" phrase from Jasper itself is a foreshadowing. Poor boy is falling into depression more and more its so heartbreaking.
It's very realistic and sad that when he had a chance to talk about his problems he said 'I said enough', he just got a confirmation that he can't express negative emotions.
I'm absolutely adoring the path that the Crewniverse has decided to take with this story, especially when it comes to Steven's morale and psyche, he's so lost and unsure of what to do with his own life now that everyone else's lives have been essentially put together in a way that they can move on and keep "looking forward," yet he's just... unable to look forward anymore, because there's nothing to look forward to in the first place, and that is such a relatable and realistic concept that Rebecca and her team have beautifully added to the overall story of Steven Universe, both the show and the character. As much as I could keep supporting the "Steven gets corrupted" theory that has been going around, which I do believe in wholeheartedly at this point after everything we've seen so far, I'd like to talk about something different, because I can honestly see this happening... Steven clearly needs a therapist, someone he can talk to and not be afraid of revealing how he feels towards everything that has happened in such a short amount of time, and if he does leave Beach City, he might go straight to Jasper, but I don't believe she'll be the person he'll end up opening himself to, not only would she... not really care, but she'd probably just mock him endlessly, I can guarantee there'd be at least a couple of "I knew it!" or "I told you so!", and I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I personally don't think he wants nor needs to hear that, maybe if her intentions changed a bit, but that'd be too abrupt of a change. No, if Steven is going to talk to anyone about this, about how he feels and how he should deal with it, I personally think it has to be with someone who has dealt with something terrifyingly similar, a certain mentality that leads to phrases such as, "I'm supposed to be flawless, I'm supposed to know better, I'm supposed to be better... I have to fix everyone!" Yep, I'm sure many can already see where I'm going with this, and as unlikely as it may seem with her clingy and sorta childish behavior during the movie, I truly believe Steven is going to talk... with White Diamond. I believe if there's anyone who could understand how Steven feels right now, completely lost and unsure of who he's supposed to be now that everyone else has taken on lives and individual identities of their own, that would and should be White Diamond, nobody else fits that description as good as her, but as much as it could work in other circumstances... I also believe this is going backfire, horribly and painfully. At first, it's gonna go by smoothly, Steven is gonna get to say hi to the other Diamonds, hopefully we'll get to see Spinel again, and he'll finally get to speak with White at the end, privately. They'll talk about things that have happened, checking in on each other, it'll be a little awkward at first since their relationship isn't as close as it could be, but they'll get to feel comfortable with each other soon enough. Then at some point, Steven will transition into the way he feels, and the way he's been trying to handle things, which will resonate with White in an odd way, and White will then try to get through Steven the same way he got through her years ago, but the problem is... Steven can't fix himself, and all White would do is use Steven's own words and teachings to try and help him, which isn't going to cut it. He's going to feel frustrated and upset, eventually going into Angry Boyo mode right in front of White... and that right there, that is the moment when White will realize how much Steven actually is like his mother. That pink glow, that angry and frustrated expression on his face, those destructive powers, it will all remind her of exactly the reasons why Pink never was never fit to have her own Colony until she decided to change... but now she's back to her old ways, through Steven, and it'll feel... wrong, but even beyond that, it'll feel... like White's been lied to all along, like all of those years being taught to change her own ways, to "change her mind," it had all been just so that Steven... so that Pink could take over, and do things her own way, just like a child always wants to be right, and worst of all... she succeeded, because now in Era 3, when gems across the galaxy look at the symbol of the Diamond Authority... Pink stands on top. I believe this is how White is going to feel when being confronted by Pink Steven, or in her eyes, by the REAL Steven, the original Pink, and this is going to set her off, because now everyone knows that her color isn't as pure as it always seemed, that it can be tainted, but maybe... that's a good thing as well, maybe that's exactly what she needs to prove a point, after all, Pink Steven has already overpowered her before, so maybe what she needs is to listen to Steven one last time, "get out of her own head"... and feel a little more pink than usual, leading to the power crazy White in the opening. I don't know if I have enough to back this up, but it makes sense to me, and I'd just love to see a confrontation between Angry Boyo and Motherly White just so that her love and affection can be completely rejected and she can be put back into her old senses, just a little more... pink. That's all I really had to say, so far this show has exceeded all expectations, it's incredible and I'm sure whatever it goes for will be amazing no matter what, the Crewniverse truly knows what they're doing. Also, last thing before taking my leave, a bit off topic, but I feel a fusion between Lapis and Steven would be awesome, yet pretty... dangerous and unstable: Steven, SUF ep. 1: "I'm. Not. Pitiful!" Lapis, SUF ep. 8: "Who's dull now? Who's pitiful now?!" Yeah, may the Lord have mercy on whoever or whatever has to deal with that combination, heheh. Amazing job as always, Blue, you always know the right spots to add some of the most hilarious jokes, I loved all your reactions to SUF so far, and I can't wait to see what's awaiting for us in the future. To add on to the corruption theory, gems typically reform after getting poofed by getting stabbed or other means of physical damage but Spinel was able to change into her edgy look without getting stabbed but instead she was so emotionally hurt by Pink that her form collapsed causing her to poof and reform. So with the possibility that mental damage/ being emotionally unstable can cause gems to poof, then why not corruption? With Stevens current mental state, at some point he's going to drive away upset and run away form his issues maybe bump into Jasper then breaks to the point of corruption.
(Sorry for third comment, I just have a lot to say on these eps) Honestly, I feel like some people tended to ignore that this isn't the first time that Steven has bottled up his emotions, nor is it the first time he's lashed out. This isn't coming from nowhere. Let's not forget how many times this kid has been talked down to, kidnapped, and nearly killed, all because of his mom. And unfortunately many of the people that could help Steven had their own problems, eventually leading Steven to the mindset that it's his job to help other people. He doesn't even recognize that he's not okay. Jasper's little speech to Steven hurts a lot more now.
It's kinda interesting that a fair amount of the fandom fell for the façade Steven put on to keep others from worrying about him. He's been doing it since The Test, pretending to be okay when the situation is dire if he's around the others so they don't get discouraged. That part of the fandom just remembers him as a happy sunshine child, when in reality he hasn't been that child for a long time.
@@eaglefan2569 the fandom keeps forgetting the pinpoint moments where steven lets his guard down and reveals that his inner mind is just as much a mystery to the audience as the other characters. we don't get to see everything he thinks just because he's the POV character: Joy Ride is the very first moment he ever expresses the very concrete fear that his parents blame him for Rose being gone, on some level. It's something the audience has probably thought about, but because Steven always acts Baby, we assume he's oblivious; but he's not. In Steven Versus Amethyst, "I'm not Rose Quartz. (...) Why did you think I've been trying so hard?" is something the show has NEVER shown us, because it's something Steven keeps deliberately hidden from everyone, including from hinself if he can help it. In Mindful Education, Garnet teaches Stevonnie (and their components by extension) that ignoeing your problems is not a healthy way to cope, and that you have to take a step back from the situation, reassess it, and go back in to Actually Deal With Things. This is a lesson Steven can BARELY internalize under the treath of him and connie literally dying, but as other episodes show he threw it out the window as soon as the ep was over. What's Your Problem: he insists he doesn't have too many hangups over the reveal, and the audience might even believe him, but Reunited opens on an entire song about deliberagely ignoring all the heavy shit going on in your life, in favor of thinking about happy things and being hopeful and attending a wedding (which Steven primarily helped organize, and which he later admits to garnet he NEEDED). Steven may come across as bumbling and oblivious, but he was always a LOT more aware of the situation than he let on. He just puts it all out of other people's sight and out of his own mind.
It's interesting seeing Steven start to resemble both his Diamond side of the family and his Demayo side. Like Uncle Andy, he hates seeing his friends and family separate, even though he has all the power in the world to stay in touch. He hates seeing things change, even when he's not really involved and has no reason to be. He just wants to store everything away in his storage shed/ aviation barn/ pet lion so that it all stays just how he remembers it. But that never really works out.

I absolutely love how the crewniverse has panned all this out. Steven Universe came out roughly 7 years ago back in 2013. A good portion of the fans were pretty young back then but now we're a lot older. We're growing up with Steven. We're learning along with steven that hey, change happens and that sometimes you can't help people you want to help. What Rebecca and the crewniverse have done works amazingly from a story standpoint, but also a "The fans are getting older, Steven is getting older. Let's up the ante." standpoint.
I think it's because some people just don't understand it, or don't want to get into the complexities. Some people enjoy simpler characters more, ones that don't lash out and make mistakes, cause that kind of stuff can sometimes be frustrating (especially if the issues aren't directly adressed/resolved as they come). Most don't want to feel angry or conflicted about a character they love, or are supposed root for, after all. And that's valid. But I personally find those kinds of characters much more interesting and immersive.

Get this boi a fricking therapist! I mean, Cactus Steven was literally only able to repeat what he heard, so every time Steven got frustrated with the Cactus, got mad at the cactus, yelled at the cactus, that's him doing those things to himself. He's getting mad at his own thoughts and blaming the cactus just because it's repeating him. He wants to avoid those thoughts, which is why he gets so mad at it.
I can’t relate to Steven way to much and every time I watch an episode with Steven lashing out and not like if the change all I see is my self in Steven and not going to lie but I sometimes lash out at my mom and then I regret it
Steven lookin at the night sky while listening to sorta inspirational but sad music is.... painfully relate-able. The Cactus was our first, legit, threat. No one really expected that. But it's such a perfect stand-in to reflect Steven's mental state. Happy you brought up the corruption and leaving theories. But there's a new one that's gained a lot of traction you may or may not know. Let's go back to Bluebird, with Aquamarine and Eyeball's demands to Steven. 1. Destroy your House. 2. Bubble your friends. 3. Burn Little Homeschool to the ground. And what happens in Little Graduation and Prickly Pair? Steven "Bubbled" his friends to keep them from leaving, and The Cactus destroyed the front of his house. What was that third demand again?.... *Emergency Sirens* DEATH APPROACHES
Oh god these episodes are so... real, I could feel reflected into Steven's character so much that it's scary. People change and often we feel as if everything around us changed while we didn't changed, that people move on, and you're afraid fo think of what's next for you in your *future* I just relate to him so much since I've been through this, and just little things like the way he treated the crystal gems in Snow day, I don't see this being represented in media so often, and it truly speaks to me. Also the song "I'm looking forward" may be one of my favorites songs of the show, since it tackles the subject too and it's so sweet and sad at the same time and Steven looking at the stars at the end the episode Little Graduation, man these episodes are good.
They say that singing songs and saying happy things to plants help them be happy and grow healthy. So that cactus episode was a really creative way of taking that element of plant care as well as Steven's need for emotional support and stability and putting it into a story kinda like Little Shop of Horrors
Blue in Star Vs: They broke up off screen?! What kind of dumb show does this?!? Blue in SUF: They broke up?!... it's private, yeah. That makes a lot of sense actually. ... I mean nothing with this, I just thought it was funny how Steven Universe did amazingly what Star Vs did *horribly* wrong xD
I really do want to highlight how genius that was. Because trust me, in an alternate universe I _would_ be pointing out that sinking a relationship that had multi-seasonal build up is a bad writing decision. But there's a fine parallel between Star Vs. and Steven Universe. Star Vs. doesn't necessarily have a POV. The episodes could follow anyone, whether it be Star, Marco, Tom, Moon, or whoever. In Steven Universe, we see everything through Steven's POV, we don't know anything he doesn't. This way, they're actually able to get away with big changes like that. Because it's actually *more* realistic for Steven not to know about private things like that. So that justifies why we, the audience, didn't know. The whole "That's because it's private" line single-handedly justified all of the changes made in that single episode, and I just think that's genius.

Hey Blue I want to bring something up that Crystal Clear brought up as something interesting about recent episodes. You remember in the episode called Bluebird what Aquamarine and Ruby's demands were? "Destroy your house, bubble your friends, and burn little homeschool to the ground." And in episode 9 he bubbles Lars, Saddie and the suspects, and the off-colors. And in episode 10 the house does essentially get destroyed so that means that possibly wormy boi is Steven and is gonna target little homeschool (Crystal Clear also brought up that maybe wormy boi ain't a worm but rather a dragon of sorts) or steven is gonna awaken some ancient corrupt gem (that's my take on it). But still don't you find it interesting that technically two out of three demands have been completed?

I can definitely see parallels between Steven and White Diamond now. Just think about it, "I need to fix everything! I need to make everything better!" We know that something is gonna happen with White in SUF, maybe it's related to Steven acting just like how she used to.
Yeah. This series has always tackled mature and dark subjects, but what I think feels so different about this is that, so far, it has had no conclusion. It truly is only getting worse.
As someone who has a similar complex to Steven, you feel like you have to be there for everyone and it’s hard to seek help and vent your problems to other people as you feel like a bother to others even though you clearly need help, this show has handled it accurately and makes me feel called out
He has been bottling up his trauma, emotions, and depression for YEARS!! As a person who went through depression and has been bottling up my emotions for 6 years, I know how tough that is. I have been struggling, gave out signs to notice I am bad which nobody did, and even had some suicidal thoughts!! The reason for my hard days was because of bullying and frequent good-byes. But he was in a much worse situation. SINCE HE WAS LIKE A VERY YOUNG KID. I can't even imagine how he struggled and how much he spent times like hell in his home!! It would be a little better if he blamed others, but he is blaming on HIM-SELF. AND EVERY TIME SOMETHING IS WRONG THEY EXPECT STEVEN TO SOLVE IT. SOME EVEN BLAME ON HIM. I won't be surprised if he just exploded. It is actually surprising for him to take these things this far.
I applaud Steven Universe for addressing Steven’s mental health after the original series ended. Watching what he’s going through made me realize that I need help, and I’m currently getting the help I need all because of this show.

Dont forget, Steven is having a midlife crisis at the age of 16/17. He's at the tail end of puberty, never having been inducted in a proper school system with kids his age, and and the kids he does hang out with are living their young adult lives. The kids he's to closest in age are Peedee, who is working on developing a business mind; Connie, who is studying constantly (I'm dying to know what she's been up to during this development), and Onion. Just Onion.
He doesn't have anyone to confide in to help inflect and reflect on himself. He can't bounce off his troubles on people who can't understand his dilemma, and those that can are his three maternal figures.
He's sixteen. He's not gonna dump his feelings on his dad or his three moms. At least that's how I'm interpreting it. He's trying to be independent, but he's now learning that for all his traits that made him so endearing and loveable, can be overbearing, suffocating, and dangerous in excess.
I think "Little Graduation" is a perfect encapsulation of Steven's internal conflict. Everyone is graduating. From the fun and weird people we knew in the past to someone independent and accomplished we may never see again in the future. But Steven hasn't graduated yet. Jasper's words from episode 1 ring louder here. He truly feels like he's nothing without his friends. :/
And "Prickly Pair" shows the trouble of finding someone to talk to. You hold it in and when you finally find someone to talk to, who you think you can trust, you just let it all out. The problem the episode had was that Steven vented to someone he didn't know very well, and couldn't give a positive reflection. Just meaningless imitation of his own gripes without understanding Steven. Let's ignore the fact the pumpkin is basically a babbling baby.
He's so full of love that he's drowned himself in it. His love is backed up and needs to let go, but Steven is afraid to. He fears if he does, he'll be left with nothing but an empty cup.

Two things of note here. 1) It's a really nice lesson to say that you don't know (and shouldn't know) what everyone is doing at all times and that things like that (who you're dating) shouldn't be needing the approval of someone else (though it is nice to have). 2) It's a nice way to say "We only had a certain amount of run time delegated to us and we'd love to give you more but we can't, so this will have to suffice."
And a thing for Prickly Pair: his treatment of Cactus Steven is pretty much a direct equivalent of how he treats himself. Will care and attend to it to please others until it becomes problematic, then tries to box it away, only to have it come back with a vengeance and be repressed. Then of course it has too much and lashes out and becomes *_incredibly_* damaging to everyone, gets calmed by something nicer coming up, then leaves. Cactus Steven is the perfect metaphor for how Steven's mentality has been going and how that'll affect him since Cactus Steven mimes Steven *_perfectly._*

I know there was a lot of build up towards Lars and Sadie's relationship, but honeslty I like the way they did it. Lars went off and did his own things. Sadie moved on and did her own things. Lars is happy that Sadie is happy, and he's moving on.
Because that's how real life works sometimes. Sometimes stuff just doesn't work out.
And how they phrased it, it genuinely seems to me like the two tried to date, but in the end they just weren't right for each other now.
Both of them were really toxic to each other in the earlier seasons, and now that they've both grown, I would be kind of nice to see them have a healthy relationship, but I don't mind this route either.
And in real life, especially as a teen, things change without you knowing. People can be together one day and be apart another and not tell you why or even that they were together in the first place.
I mean their entire relationship seemed to be a weird on-and-off-again deal where they were both using each other as a crutch in their respective situations, and weren't able to move past that. Now that they're healthy and complete people who have had two years to explore a relationship that ISN'T defined by a shitty job and constany bickering, it really could have gone either way; it could have turned out that the stress and personal hangups were what was keeping them apart, or that they're what was keeping them coming back together. it's just rare to see such a realistic and nuanced interpersonal relationship on tv
Agree completely! This progression felt very natural to me. So while I wouldn't have minded Lars and Sadie getting together, I think I honestly appreciate this more. Sometimes things just don't work out, and that's okay. I'm glad that this cartoon can show that, that you don't have to work tirelessly just to make a relationship work, and instead find someone better for you while still remaining on good terms with your previous partner. That's a very important message to send, imo.

Me: Ok Steven I know this is gonna be hard to understand since you're the main character but side characters CAN have a life without you involved.
The fun part is how the show is structured so we see things as Steven sees them - following his viewpoint, which means there's things happening we don't get to see. It bothers me a little since it does limit how much we can see of characters *not* Steven developing.
Then Steven's character development became a ticking time-bomb of awkward. Because people are *complicated*, and Steven Universe (the show) seems to be one of the few shows to GET that out there. The last pair of episodes from last year (these two) were uncomfortable to watch - but they were important to signal everything is NOT fine with Steven. This show is not going to avoid considering the kind of crap he went through since "Gem Glow" began our window into his life - something which isn't new for the show at all. But the older people get, the more baggage there is, and it's no surprise for someone like Steven who has had a BUSY few years?
He's having an emotional breakdown, slowly, and has no idea what to do about it. It doesn't even seem he's aware something should be done about it, but . . . when your mystical gem powers are hooked into your emotions in ways you still don't understand? *This is dangerous to yourself and everyone around you.*
Here's the real fun part: There's no easy answer for this. "Get therapy" is not a quick, simple fix. Therapy doesn't simply make problems like this go away - it helps you cope with them, and get control back. And while it's possible to do it on your own, I . . . don't think it's safe to suggest anyone (much less Steven) "suck it up and deal with it". It's not just "Steven needs therapy", it's "therapy is something everyone needs now and then, in some form". How many characters on this show have had major life problems which needed working out? (Answer: Almost all of them, even someone as "stable" as Garnet.)
It's just Steven's turn in the barrel now.

It's not like Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, and Greg are inherently bad for it turning out the way it did, either. In reality it's just that their unresolved emotional baggage made the impressionable young Steven feel like he needed to help lighten the load and never learned how to cope with that properly. It was never intentional but it's such a nice thing to show, since it happens in real life, too. The stuff kids can learn from their parents aren't just *_good_* habits, but also *_bad_* habits, and the difference is that the kid doesn't have the experience and foreknowledge of how to deal with such a thing. So... Steven's kinda been screwed from the beginning, considering how much emotional and physical baggage his mom wrought on others (that even affected his other caretakers).

deadass his entire thing in season 1 was that he wasn't being treated like a proper member of the crystal gems, and his endless attempts to become someone worthwile; and while he was dealing with that, his moms started accidentally dumping their baggage on him. this led to him internalizing that what makes him valuable to his family and by extension the world is his ability to play therapist to everyone's problem, and that worked out for him okay because his home life is a mess (especially because it slowly grows to encompass Giant Alien Space Nazis) but now that he has no one left to fix he's left to stew in his own problems without wanting to let anyone else in on it, because during the most formative time of his life he learned the only way for people to accept and love him is to swallow his own issues and try to fix everyone else's

Hearing your analysis after the video really hit me hard. I didn’t realize how I relate to Steven. I’ve always done everything I can to help my friends and everyone around me. Of course now I know I wanna be a therapist but last year 2 of my friends had relationship stuff and never talked. This happened with 2 of my friends who both had boyfriends and one of them was a friend of mine. I tried to help them and (similar to Lars and Sadie) tried to fix their relationships. I know now that it’s not my place to be a part of the problem. I’ve been friends with a huge group but they are slowly drifting away and it breaks my heart. I tried to get one friend to come back and felt like I had to have her come back when really that was her choice because she just wasn’t comfortable with some of the members of my group. It’s crazy to finally realize this. I still wanna help people and I decided sometime last year that I wanna be therapist.

I think what he's most freaked out about regarding change is when change happens in the way he doesn't expect it to, or in a way that doesn't follow his direction. He's spent so much time helping everyone change themselves, that it's become a natural and comforting state for him. He knows what happens next. But now, that isn't the case. Everyone can change without him. And, suddenly, change seems so much scarier.

I have seen barely any posts about Steven’s mental health. You’re all racking up his anger to ‘being a teenager’ but that’s so clearly not the case. Here is a couple of screen shots and quotes for evidence:
Episode 1 "Little Homeschool";
“You’ve always been a fusion, you’ve always had your friends! You are NOTHING without them” in the full clip of this, you can just see face drop when she says that. So many times he’s been almost killed and had a gem yell at him in his face about him being worthless, this is probably a trigger for him hence why he started crying and turns pink. Also him snapping and turning violent, he never wants to feel helpless like he always has to when a gem tries to kill him. He’s been through it so much. And even after HE apologises when he didn’t need to. PTSD triggers like this that send you into a rage makes you feel like a awful, awful person afterwards.
Episode 4 (¿ Volleyball ;;
“This was all Pink Diamond!” “My mom?..” he’s put back and disturbed by even the mention of his mom, I think it’s trigger for him. And right after
- He apologise and vaguely explains why he turned pink, he looks so uncomfortable and scared at the mention of her and while explaining his reaction
“It doesn’t matter! I’m gonna fix it” he literally starts shaking, blocking his ears and holding his head.
“Stop it! I can’t deal with one more horrible thing that she did!” He snaps at a trigger, and starts getting incredibly angry and emotional
“I don’t wanna hear about it! I don’t even wanna THINK about it!” Just his voice when he says this, he sounds so scared. And his delusional yelling and movements just scream how much he’s put off by his mum. (HELP him)
There’s probably gonna be so much more in the future. But please stop just calling this ‘hormones’, this isn’t how hormones work. This poor kid has a mental illness. And even in the last 5 seasons there’s so much more for him to be absolutely traumatised for.

Steven Cactus is a metaphor for Steven’s struggle with mental illness(es)
From the beginning you can already tell that Steven is isolating himself. Distancing he’s feelings from the gems by locking himself away in the dome, taking care of plants that he names after people who he feel left behind by. Isolation is a thing constantly done by people with any sort of mental illness. And he even names the plants after people who he feels have left him behind. He doesn’t even seem to enjoy gardening that much.
“What am I doing?-“ “Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl aren’t even impressed-“ to me I feel like he’s doing this just so he can be alone. Mindless tasks to pass the time so he doesn’t have to think about the feelings and truama. Repression is something that can lead to horrible things if left alone (and it does, but we’ll get to that in a second). And in cases of repression and isolation there’s no one you trust or want to burden with your feelings. So often people will turn to themselves, which can be okay but
When you start turning into your own therapist while simultaneously being the patient with no additional support from others is unhealthy and unstable. If your mentally ill and already don’t think highly of yourself and you have trauma and past events that feel like they validate everything awful about you in the past or present, it just can’t work.
Cactus Steven is a carbon copy of Steven, he’s talking to himself every time he vents at it or gets angry at it. And when Cactus Steven repeats what Steven says It’s those thoughts and feelings being echoed in his mind, bouncing around, but ignored and repressed.
And when people start hearing those feelings, seeing the effects of the repression and isolation, they naturally worry. You could even see it as maybe a part of Steven reaching out for help. A small part of him yelling out signals and showing the effects vaguely, but he still runs away when it starts happening. There’s always a part of you that reaches out despite if your general thoughts are to hide your suffering. And it can be frustrating
Getting angry at yourself for wanting to ‘burden’ others despite it being the right thing, but mental illness makes you blind to that. This bit broke my heart though, seeing Steven get so mad at himself for showing any signs of him being mentally tortured by himself because he’s so scared to tell anyone. And what Steven does with these feelings of anger and showings of illnesses
He literally puts it in a box, ignores it and walks away (I don’t even need to explain this). But this is the part where the effects of repressing trauma and intense feelings comes in.
When feelings are left alone and unresolved they malform into an amalgamation of all those feelings, breading new kinds of depressing and hurtful thoughts on their own. It’s ugly and hard to deal with, especially when you feel like have to only rely on yourself. And Steven just keeps walking away from it, and it worsens, and worsens, and Worsens. It’s gets worse and worse until those feelings become so deformed and intense that everyone can see the problem now. Everyone has to work to soften the sharp thoughts of represented mental illness. But in the end Steven fixes it, by himself, again. He has to be the one that calms himself down, again. He has to be the on that works himself through trauma and depressive episodes, again. He has to save himself and the gems. Again.
But even in the end, after everyone saw the heap of mess in Steven’s messed up mind, he still refuses help.
I’m super interested to see what they do with Steven’s mental health, this is all so interesting.

I hope to help with your analisis. The phrase "I think I have said enought" so simple yet it holds a powerful meaning. It ties with the fact he feels everyone needs his help. Tho this phrase makes it clear he is aware he needs help. He is aware of how much he is hurting. But doesn't want to bring it up to the gems because he thinks they are finally happy and that they can move on from the things that marked them and if they know ehat has been going on with him maybe will end up reverting the gems back to their previous self. Also Like you said people moving on is scaring him cause he mever thought on an after scenary. And with a messed childhood is not like he can know what is average for a kid anymore even when he had Connie as an half-example. Also kinda sad we haven't seen her. I wonder if his "fits of rage" would also unleasg with her... maybe that will be the breaking point? I don't know I am just rambling now xD. I wonder too if the "There is always someone to fight" phrase from Jasper itself is a foreshadowing. Poor boy is falling into depression more and more its so heartbreaking.
It's very realistic and sad that when he had a chance to talk about his problems he said 'I said enough', he just got a confirmation that he can't express negative emotions.
I'm absolutely adoring the path that the Crewniverse has decided to take with this story, especially when it comes to Steven's morale and psyche, he's so lost and unsure of what to do with his own life now that everyone else's lives have been essentially put together in a way that they can move on and keep "looking forward," yet he's just... unable to look forward anymore, because there's nothing to look forward to in the first place, and that is such a relatable and realistic concept that Rebecca and her team have beautifully added to the overall story of Steven Universe, both the show and the character.
As much as I could keep supporting the "Steven gets corrupted" theory that has been going around, which I do believe in wholeheartedly at this point after everything we've seen so far, I'd like to talk about something different, because I can honestly see this happening... Steven clearly needs a therapist, someone he can talk to and not be afraid of revealing how he feels towards everything that has happened in such a short amount of time, and if he does leave Beach City, he might go straight to Jasper, but I don't believe she'll be the person he'll end up opening himself to, not only would she... not really care, but she'd probably just mock him endlessly, I can guarantee there'd be at least a couple of "I knew it!" or "I told you so!", and I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I personally don't think he wants nor needs to hear that, maybe if her intentions changed a bit, but that'd be too abrupt of a change.
No, if Steven is going to talk to anyone about this, about how he feels and how he should deal with it, I personally think it has to be with someone who has dealt with something terrifyingly similar, a certain mentality that leads to phrases such as, "I'm supposed to be flawless, I'm supposed to know better, I'm supposed to be better... I have to fix everyone!" Yep, I'm sure many can already see where I'm going with this, and as unlikely as it may seem with her clingy and sorta childish behavior during the movie, I truly believe Steven is going to talk... with White Diamond. I believe if there's anyone who could understand how Steven feels right now, completely lost and unsure of who he's supposed to be now that everyone else has taken on lives and individual identities of their own, that would and should be White Diamond, nobody else fits that description as good as her, but as much as it could work in other circumstances... I also believe this is going backfire, horribly and painfully.
At first, it's gonna go by smoothly, Steven is gonna get to say hi to the other Diamonds, hopefully we'll get to see Spinel again, and he'll finally get to speak with White at the end, privately. They'll talk about things that have happened, checking in on each other, it'll be a little awkward at first since their relationship isn't as close as it could be, but they'll get to feel comfortable with each other soon enough. Then at some point, Steven will transition into the way he feels, and the way he's been trying to handle things, which will resonate with White in an odd way, and White will then try to get through Steven the same way he got through her years ago, but the problem is... Steven can't fix himself, and all White would do is use Steven's own words and teachings to try and help him, which isn't going to cut it. He's going to feel frustrated and upset, eventually going into Angry Boyo mode right in front of White... and that right there, that is the moment when White will realize how much Steven actually is like his mother. That pink glow, that angry and frustrated expression on his face, those destructive powers, it will all remind her of exactly the reasons why Pink never was never fit to have her own Colony until she decided to change... but now she's back to her old ways, through Steven, and it'll feel... wrong, but even beyond that, it'll feel... like White's been lied to all along, like all of those years being taught to change her own ways, to "change her mind," it had all been just so that Steven... so that Pink could take over, and do things her own way, just like a child always wants to be right, and worst of all... she succeeded, because now in Era 3, when gems across the galaxy look at the symbol of the Diamond Authority... Pink stands on top. I believe this is how White is going to feel when being confronted by Pink Steven, or in her eyes, by the REAL Steven, the original Pink, and this is going to set her off, because now everyone knows that her color isn't as pure as it always seemed, that it can be tainted, but maybe... that's a good thing as well, maybe that's exactly what she needs to prove a point, after all, Pink Steven has already overpowered her before, so maybe what she needs is to listen to Steven one last time, "get out of her own head"... and feel a little more pink than usual, leading to the power crazy White in the opening.
I don't know if I have enough to back this up, but it makes sense to me, and I'd just love to see a confrontation between Angry Boyo and Motherly White just so that her love and affection can be completely rejected and she can be put back into her old senses, just a little more... pink. That's all I really had to say, so far this show has exceeded all expectations, it's incredible and I'm sure whatever it goes for will be amazing no matter what, the Crewniverse truly knows what they're doing.
Also, last thing before taking my leave, a bit off topic, but I feel a fusion between Lapis and Steven would be awesome, yet pretty... dangerous and unstable:

To add on to the corruption theory, gems typically reform after getting poofed by getting stabbed or other means of physical damage but Spinel was able to change into her edgy look without getting stabbed but instead she was so emotionally hurt by Pink that her form collapsed causing her to poof and reform. So with the possibility that mental damage/ being emotionally unstable can cause gems to poof, then why not corruption? With Stevens current mental state, at some point he's going to drive away upset and run away form his issues maybe bump into Jasper then breaks to the point of corruption.

Honestly, I feel like some people tended to ignore that this isn't the first time that Steven has bottled up his emotions, nor is it the first time he's lashed out.
This isn't coming from nowhere. Let's not forget how many times this kid has been talked down to, kidnapped, and nearly killed, all because of his mom. And unfortunately many of the people that could help Steven had their own problems, eventually leading Steven to the mindset that it's his job to help other people.
He doesn't even recognize that he's not okay.
Jasper's little speech to Steven hurts a lot more now.
It's kinda interesting that a fair amount of the fandom fell for the façade Steven put on to keep others from worrying about him. He's been doing it since The Test, pretending to be okay when the situation is dire if he's around the others so they don't get discouraged. That part of the fandom just remembers him as a happy sunshine child, when in reality he hasn't been that child for a long time.
@@eaglefan2569 the fandom keeps forgetting the pinpoint moments where steven lets his guard down and reveals that his inner mind is just as much a mystery to the audience as the other characters. we don't get to see everything he thinks just because he's the POV character: Joy Ride is the very first moment he ever expresses the very concrete fear that his parents blame him for Rose being gone, on some level. It's something the audience has probably thought about, but because Steven always acts Baby, we assume he's oblivious; but he's not. In Steven Versus Amethyst, "I'm not Rose Quartz. (...) Why did you think I've been trying so hard?" is something the show has NEVER shown us, because it's something Steven keeps deliberately hidden from everyone, including from hinself if he can help it.
In Mindful Education, Garnet teaches Stevonnie (and their components by extension) that ignoeing your problems is not a healthy way to cope, and that you have to take a step back from the situation, reassess it, and go back in to Actually Deal With Things. This is a lesson Steven can BARELY internalize under the treath of him and connie literally dying, but as other episodes show he threw it out the window as soon as the ep was over. What's Your Problem: he insists he doesn't have too many hangups over the reveal, and the audience might even believe him, but Reunited opens on an entire song about deliberagely ignoring all the heavy shit going on in your life, in favor of thinking about happy things and being hopeful and attending a wedding (which Steven primarily helped organize, and which he later admits to garnet he NEEDED).
Steven may come across as bumbling and oblivious, but he was always a LOT more aware of the situation than he let on. He just puts it all out of other people's sight and out of his own mind.

It's interesting seeing Steven start to resemble both his Diamond side of the family and his Demayo side. Like Uncle Andy, he hates seeing his friends and family separate, even though he has all the power in the world to stay in touch. He hates seeing things change, even when he's not really involved and has no reason to be. He just wants to store everything away in his storage shed/ aviation barn/ pet lion so that it all stays just how he remembers it. But that never really works out.

I absolutely love how the crewniverse has panned all this out. Steven Universe came out roughly 7 years ago back in 2013. A good portion of the fans were pretty young back then but now we're a lot older. We're growing up with Steven. We're learning along with steven that hey, change happens and that sometimes you can't help people you want to help.
What Rebecca and the crewniverse have done works amazingly from a story standpoint, but also a "The fans are getting older, Steven is getting older. Let's up the ante." standpoint.

The maturity of this show turns some people off and for the life of me I’ll never understand why
I think it's because some people just don't understand it, or don't want to get into the complexities. Some people enjoy simpler characters more, ones that don't lash out and make mistakes, cause that kind of stuff can sometimes be frustrating (especially if the issues aren't directly adressed/resolved as they come). Most don't want to feel angry or conflicted about a character they love, or are supposed root for, after all. And that's valid. But I personally find those kinds of characters much more interesting and immersive.
Two back to back episodes of Steven endangering several lives

I mean, Cactus Steven was literally only able to repeat what he heard, so every time Steven got frustrated with the Cactus, got mad at the cactus, yelled at the cactus, that's him doing those things to himself. He's getting mad at his own thoughts and blaming the cactus just because it's repeating him. He wants to avoid those thoughts, which is why he gets so mad at it.

I can’t relate to Steven way to much and every time I watch an episode with Steven lashing out and not like if the change all I see is my self in Steven and not going to lie but I sometimes lash out at my mom and then I regret it

And what happens in Little Graduation and Prickly Pair? Steven "Bubbled" his friends to keep them from leaving, and The Cactus destroyed the front of his house. What was that third demand again?.... *Emergency Sirens* DEATH APPROACHES

Oh god these episodes are so... real, I could feel reflected into Steven's character so much that it's scary. People change and often we feel as if everything around us changed while we didn't changed, that people move on, and you're afraid fo think of what's next for you in your *future* I just relate to him so much since I've been through this, and just little things like the way he treated the crystal gems in Snow day, I don't see this being represented in media so often, and it truly speaks to me. Also the song "I'm looking forward" may be one of my favorites songs of the show, since it tackles the subject too and it's so sweet and sad at the same time and Steven looking at the stars at the end the episode Little Graduation, man these episodes are good.

They say that singing songs and saying happy things to plants help them be happy and grow healthy. So that cactus episode was a really creative way of taking that element of plant care as well as Steven's need for emotional support and stability and putting it into a story kinda like Little Shop of Horrors

I really do want to highlight how genius that was. Because trust me, in an alternate universe I _would_ be pointing out that sinking a relationship that had multi-seasonal build up is a bad writing decision. But there's a fine parallel between Star Vs. and Steven Universe.
Star Vs. doesn't necessarily have a POV. The episodes could follow anyone, whether it be Star, Marco, Tom, Moon, or whoever.
In Steven Universe, we see everything through Steven's POV, we don't know anything he doesn't.
This way, they're actually able to get away with big changes like that. Because it's actually *more* realistic for Steven not to know about private things like that. So that justifies why we, the audience, didn't know.
The whole "That's because it's private" line single-handedly justified all of the changes made in that single episode, and I just think that's genius.

Hey Blue I want to bring something up that Crystal Clear brought up as something interesting about recent episodes. You remember in the episode called Bluebird what Aquamarine and Ruby's demands were? "Destroy your house, bubble your friends, and burn little homeschool to the ground." And in episode 9 he bubbles Lars, Saddie and the suspects, and the off-colors. And in episode 10 the house does essentially get destroyed so that means that possibly wormy boi is Steven and is gonna target little homeschool (Crystal Clear also brought up that maybe wormy boi ain't a worm but rather a dragon of sorts) or steven is gonna awaken some ancient corrupt gem (that's my take on it). But still don't you find it interesting that technically two out of three demands have been completed?

Yeah. This series has always tackled mature and dark subjects, but what I think feels so different about this is that, so far, it has had no conclusion. It truly is only getting worse.
As someone who has a similar complex to Steven, you feel like you have to be there for everyone and it’s hard to seek help and vent your problems to other people as you feel like a bother to others even though you clearly need help, this show has handled it accurately and makes me feel called out
He has been bottling up his trauma, emotions, and depression for YEARS!!
As a person who went through depression and has been bottling up my emotions for 6 years, I know how tough that is.
I have been struggling, gave out signs to notice I am bad which nobody did, and even had some suicidal thoughts!! The reason for my hard days was because of bullying and frequent good-byes.
But he was in a much worse situation. SINCE HE WAS LIKE A VERY YOUNG KID.
I can't even imagine how he struggled and how much he spent times like hell in his home!! It would be a little better if he blamed others, but he is blaming on HIM-SELF. AND EVERY TIME SOMETHING IS WRONG THEY EXPECT STEVEN TO SOLVE IT. SOME EVEN BLAME ON HIM.
I won't be surprised if he just exploded. It is actually surprising for him to take these things this far.
I applaud Steven Universe for addressing Steven’s mental health after the original series ended. Watching what he’s going through made me realize that I need help, and I’m currently getting the help I need all because of this show.
