      The problem most people had with the snes classic was throwing hundreds of games/consoles on the main UI. Even in folders and not exceeding the 50/60 games per folder would cause C8 errors. To fix this was "dummy folder" and loading thousands of games in folders on a USB and just using Retroarch.
      For some, that can be handled better on a Odroid or Pi, even the PS classic can get the job done. The huge request was wanting to add Genesis/Mega Drive games on the main UI of the MD mini while also tending to the needs of others wanting other consoles on the main UI.
      But the skinny of it is, the more you bog the console down the slower it gets. Load times, slow down in menu and resetting back to main menu. Realistically on the classic consoles if you add 30 to 50 games they run like a champ. I did this for my nes, snes and MD mini. But no body wants to do that, we all want the whole library of every console. So yes, adding box art and spine art for many games can be a pain.
      I won't hate on Lunar or their team, but hakchi as well as the men and women affiliated have been a huge pleasure and help throughout the years. They rock. 😊

I'm getting a modded mega drive mini in the post soon, but I wanted to know how to use this programme myself. I took a look at a guide for the NES/SNES too. The part that confuses me is when you start adding games for other systems haha. I took notes from your video though, so thanks! Hi Patton, thanks again for the great video. I'd like to drop a quick question, I saw that you have the start up screen on the TMNT, is there anything specific that you need to do in order to have those screens on the newly added games, just like the original ones? Not talking about the description, just the screen, as on my system it goes straight to the game, no matter if it's the M2engage or Retroarch.

    Hey Patton, great video! Just had a few specific questions for you (Or anyone else with an answer): I know you can't remove the stock games and have the option to hide them when booting to the home menu, but can you hide specific games? Also, if you use the USB method, is there a way to keep the games on the system from being hidden? Much appreciated!

  • @GiSWiG

    THANKS! My Genesis Mini is now everything I wanted out of it. A thought on the part when connecting the USB cable when connecting it up to the PC, do it on the PC side (i.e. regular USB plug), not the micro-USB side. Micro USB it is more fragile. I used the PC side without issues mostly because my Genesis is new so it was a bit tight.
    Question on the emulation core: Is it best to just go RA on all extra Genesis games? Any reason why some would be better on the native emulator?

    • @PattonPlays
      @PattonPlays  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I always go with RA simply because the emulation is almost always better than what you get with stock. This holds true with the nes and SNES as well.

    Lots of folks wondering about how to do the 6 button mapping correctly. I messed around with it and got it to work perfectly. Start a Genesis game (I chose Mortal Kombat 2 to be able to easily test the controls with)- bring up the retroarch menu, scroll down to controls, and then for User 1 I selected "MD 6 button" (I'm using the 8bitdo M30 and the official 6 button wireless for player 2), then scroll down and map the buttons accordingly: (Follow the same for player 2 and on if using more than 1 6-button controller)
    B will need to be changed to A
    A changed to X
    C changed to B
    Y stays at Y
    X changed to Z
    Z changed to C
    ***Be sure to "Save Core Remap File" to save this
    Have fun!

However, I am not familiar with the current version (I have the version that was out at the time of the SNES mini release). I see that we can now manage the "in menu" folders as we please, which is awesome. Quick question here: is the folder management work like it does in Windows? I mean by that that I want to create folders for my games in alphabetical order, but I also want to create a "hidden gems" folder. Can a game be in 2 folders at the same time? Can I have the actual ROM in the alphabetical folder and create a "shortcut" file of that game to put into the "hidden gems" folder?
    Thanks a lot. And thanks for your tutorials, they are very "plug and play" ;)

    Hakchi turned out to be the best and easiest method to hack my mini. Folder support and UI integration were on top of my list of things I needed to get mine up and running the way I like it and it delivered. It may not have a scraping tool, but that's ok. We're at least given the option to fill in any of those fields manually and by leaving them blank, clicking on a game takes you directly to the game launch, which is actually nice, as I'm not really thrilled to see a pop up gimmick every time I want to play a game.
    Everything is running great much like on my SNES Classic. No muss no fuss.

      @@seanheffernan754 Oh no, I wouldn't never be able to fit even one Sega CD game on it directly. I'm using a very small black USB drive of 128gb, by Sandisk. It's called a Cruzer Fit drive and they hide pretty well. 128gb is way more than I need for my build though. A 64gb would have sufficed, as I've only reached 22gb usage.

Took a good portion of my evening setting up the thumb drive but so far every game i have tried has worked, i assigned every added game with the pico core, so far so good! Thanks again i tried and failed at PL this worked perfect, also tested pulling the thumb drive and restarting the system, because all games are saved on the rear usb it loads right back to stock! Boom! Love it.

    Have an early question for you....since I can't get my 2.4 GHz 8BitDo controller working consistently with a USB cable, I'm trying to find a way to set it up so a button combination automatically exits the game. I have it set to pull up the menu whenever I hold START for 2 seconds, but having to select "Quit RetroArch" is a pain (same challenge if I hit RESET on the console). I guess if I just buy the new Retro-Bit Genesis replicas, I can set a proper button combination? Or will that only be used to open RetroArch.

    Hmm this is winning me over more than lunar. Just instant and using the UI. Is there a translated menu when you place it on japanese mode for megadrive style??

    • @Choom2077
      @Choom2077 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it does. One of the first things I tested out after using Hakchi. It loads the translated theme of the menu and language format. However, if you're speaking on behalf of game versions (USA, Japan, EU) Hakchi actually exposes all games, including 2 additional games that weren't even on the list of included games. Sword of Vermilion and Mortal Kombat II were hidden games for some reason. This allows you to actually load up any variant of the game to your main UI along with your other games. So you don't technically have to switch languages to access them. This is actually not a negative though. I find it to be a bit more of a convenient. But if you want to separate them from your other games, you can create a directory for just those versions. You can always change the theme setting based on region in the language settings. :)

    Hey Patton, I got a couple questions. You mentioned that 100 games can go into a folder without anything going wrong, does that apply to the home screen too? Or can you literally put every Genesis game on the home screen and not worry about the console blowing up? lol also is there a list somewhere that shows what games work well with the native emulator and what games you need to run with Retroarch?
    Thanks man as always!
