  • Maybe this is a hot take, but as good as 2 was, I personally prefer Hidden World. That ending is one of the most heart wrenching things I have ever seen. And I have now finally finished the Trilogy with this video, and was then shocked to see I made it 22 minutes long. Oh well, you guys don't mind, right?
Disclaimer: I don't have much ill will towards CinemaSins, I just want to point out the many mistakes they've made in their videos.

Regarding the comparison to Wall-E: I think the thing Jeremy is referring to is the fact that 2 characters are having a romance, and one of them is sleek and white while the other is rougher and darker colored. That's it. That's as deep as his analysis goes.

As an aspiring writer, I can attest that an alliteration does not necessarily have to have all the words in a sentence start with the same letter.

Nice that you managed to complete the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. I only saw this movie once (in theaters five years ago), and how good it is among the other two is debatable, though I don't understand why CinemaSins' description said this movie was pretty good yet said otherwise throughout the video. Also, I appreciate you pointing out how that "SKIP!" wasn't necessary, and also how they removed a sin for the touching goodbye yet said they'd remove all the sins if Toothless manically destroyed the boat with Hiccup, Astrid, and their kids on it.

5:08, it’s worse if you’ve read the books. In the books, Snotface Snotlout is Hiccup’s cousin

4:29, on the contrary. It’s one of the things Hiccup has to train Toothless not to do in the first book. (Yes, there’s scatalogical humour.)

5:18, Cressida Cowell named him Snotface Snotlout, son of Baggybum the Beerbelly and thus nephew of Stoick the Vast making Snotlout heir to the tribe right up until his cousin Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third was born which is why Snotlout is so hostile towards Hiccup. I know CinemaSins says “the books don’t matter” but that’s who named him

13:23, though in the books, the characters refer to Grimnir as Woden (like the Anglo-Saxons called him) as an explanation for why they use the name Wednesday (it’s derived from Woden’s Day.) The movies refer to him as Odin. It’s not because of the MCU Thor movies given the first How To Train Your Dragon movie came out a year before the first Thor movie.

*_Sin 19_* Goldeneye had a scene with James & Alec in the shadows with only their eyes lit. Granted Alec is revealed later to be the villain, you really feel like: "Oh, snap! James is gonna have a partner? Let's do it!"
*_Sin 20; Drago (Cyrillic: Драго) is a Bulgarian, Serbian, Slovene, Croatian male given name, usually short for the other names with the root drag- (lit. a "dear one"), such as Dragan, Dragutin, etc. The feminine version is Draga._*

Only 21 days from the release of Deadpool & wolverine, I AM SO EXCITED. but anyway I would personally add 100 sins for the fact that Jeremy thought that he should sin the how to train your dragon movies, these movies introduced me to dragons alongside the hobbit the desolation of Smaug so they hold a very special place in my heart.

Wanted to point out he seems to either sin any kind of romance (see his Princess and the Frog video) or, if it's romance between two different kinds of creatures, asking how sex between them would work.

    Missed SinSins
3:30 Then he would have splashed harmlessly in the water and his dragon would have recovered him.
3:52 Dragons are highly intelligent creatures, and while its unlikely they understand the full human language, certain words and commands are understood, just like with dogs. And even though animals IRL can't comprehend human speech, how many people still talk to their pets as if they can? Also, it's unlikely that the characters are speaking English; we as the audience are just hearing it as such so we're not stuck reading subtitles. This is a fairly common movie tactic.
5:30 Dragons are highly skilled hunters, do you really think they're not being used to help hunt? Meat is probably VERY easy to come by.
7:52 Hiccup has 2 sets of grandparents. Once set could have come from outside of Berk and migrated there later while the other set was part of the 7 generation that had been there. In fact, this could be where Hiccup's mom got her idea that humans and dragon can co-exist philosophy if she was from the migrating side of Hiccup's grandparents.
9:50 No, Lightfury absolutely sounds better than Brightfury.
11:08 This is Eret's way of letting both the audience and Hiccup know how much of a threat Grimmel is.
11:48 Nightfuries and Lightfuries are subspecies of the same type of dragon that are compatible enough to breed, kind of like a lion and a tiger or a wolf and dog or a donkey and a horse. See, separate species but still closely related. Lightfuries are not female Nightfuries.
13:08 Actually, the movie Thor Ragnorak was based on a comic that came out in 2004, and this movie came out in 2019. So it doesn't matter if this movie was made before Thor Ragnorak or vice versa because the comic came out first. But according to Jeremy, the books don't matter... except for when they do.
14:10 Grimmel likes talking down to others, that's the point of his explanation, he just got annoyed when they still weren't getting it after he spelled it out for them, which ruined his fun.
14:40 Jeremy reveals he never watched the canon TV series and Sins characterization for answers that were out there but he didn't bother to look into.
15:22 Jeremy makes fun of the disabled. That's disablist.
15:47 Jeremy calls HTTYD a family movie after having called it a kids movie before. There's a clear distinction. Kid movies are specifically made for kids to enjoy, family movies are made for all ages to enjoy, including adults. So which is it? I'll tell you: family movie.
16:09 His mother is clearly holding onto her staff, which is hooked onto her dragon, that's why she didn't fall.
17:57 It was explicitly stated that Grimmel enjoys the hunt. So even if he could have captured Toothless this easily, he was clearly dragging things out.
18:40 It was obviously a very low dosage, just enough to render Toothless immobile so he could order him to order the other dragons to obey him. He can't exactly get Toothless to do that if he's asleep.
18:56 Hiccup trusts Astrid and she knows and understands him better than anyone, sometimes better than he knows himself, and she at times acts as his voice of reason and motivation (again, seen in more detail in the TV series). So yes, if Hiccup was going to listen to anyone or if anyone could get him out of his funk, it would be Astrid.
21:03 Grimmel is intentionally ripping Hiccup's flight suit so Hiccup can't save himself so they'll both go down.
21:45 This movie had an ending and a time-skip epilogue, LOTR3 had at least 5 fake-out endings. Also, Jeremy makes arbitrary movie reference.
21:55 We've seen in every HTTYD movie that dragons, even wild or former enemy ones, are peaceful creatures that are primarily friendly and won't attack unless provoked. Even if Toothless is no longer tame or has forgotten Hiccup completely, that fact hasn't changed.

In the books, most dragons are capable of understanding Norse thanks to their encounters with Vikings but only two dragons have mastered speaking it themselves. And canonically, the books are written by Hiccup but translated from Norse to English by Cressida Cowell (the real life author) such that the language the Vikings are speaking is Norse.

Sinning a character for being stupid when that's part of their charm? That's like sinning Starscream for betraying Autobots and Deceptions when that's part of his charm. Plus he's a villain, I expect villains to betray each other eventually.

22:15, as a fan of the books, I am open to a closer to the text adaptation of them. That said, the little information we’ve had about that sounds a lot more like they’re just going to convert the animated film to live-action instead of readapting the books

I think your comments about the books have been some of the most fascinating comments I've read. I've gathered they are extremely different from the movies, so reading them wasn't entirely necessary for these videos, but it's still cool to know some things that the movies left out. And yeah, if the live-action movie is closer to the books, then that would definitely be worthwhile, and better than any of the Disney remakes.

@@Cityofember313 I would say that the books did a better job setting up Hiccup sending the dragons away than the movies did given the first book tells us that Hiccup’s writing his memoir to let us know about the time where there were dragons. Because of that, we the audience know from the beginning that the dragons aren’t there for the long haul

    - 3:05 that and the fact that the 3rd movie makes Ruffnut dumber then she actually is. The twins both actually are smarter but all the development that was done in the show that was made between 2 and 3 was thrown out the window, because the only people that would care are all the hardcore fans that would disappear after the last movie anyway -_- (we still exist it's sarcasm)
    - Funfact: in the book Snotloud is Hiccup's cousin and there are people that carry that into the movies! (I don't like the Snotloud x Valka plot either but then again I hate the whole movie for a lot of reasons. Heck I could make a 30+ Minutes long video why exactly T-T (It commits ACTUAL sins when it comes to the franchise as a whole but definetly not for all the bullshit reasons CinemaSins thinks the movie is sinning, especially since the movie would actually be good as a stand alone movie or a spin-off "what-if"))
    - 12:57 Lightfury's are actually a whole other sub-species, since a (what's believed) male Lightfury shows up in the background during the whole hidden world sequense.
    - 14:54 The writers did Snotloud dirty he's actually an in depth character so hating is lowkey justified (just wanted to add that)
    - 16:55 In the most famous short film from the few the franchise has (that is 100% canon) Toothless got the abiltiy to fly alone but then tore the automatic fin off, because he wanted to depend on Hiccup. I'd cut Hiccup some slack here, since he thought Toothless would do it again lmao (and honestly that was what I WISHED would happen at the end of the movie but NOOOOOoooOO T-T)
    - 21:41 Considering the mis-characterisations how stupid grimmel actually is and that the whole hidden world concept doesn't make any sense if you look at the whole franchise it's THE BIGGEST MESS. The movie itself (ignoring the excistence of the other two movies, the TV series and the short-films) is a pretty good movie actually.
"Removing all other sins, if Toothless burns down this boat and laughs" EXCUSE ME!!?? I HATE THE 3RD MOVIE BUT THIS IS JUST AND INSULT TO THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE!!!! WHERE ARE MY PITCHFORKS WHEN I NEED THEM????
But yeah love your video xD
