Adult Beginner Violinist | 2 Years Progression

- Hi there, my name is Peter and I’m an adult beginner violinist from London. I first embarked on my violin journey during 2018 where I was self-taught for 2 years on a very on and off basis. During this time I was able to familiarise myself with the notes on the violin finger board. As a child I had piano lessons for 9 years and studied up to grade 6 (ABRSM). This gave me a slight advantage as I already had the knowledge of music theory and performance.
Learning the violin has always been something I’ve wanted to do, and from 2020 I decided to learn properly with a teacher (October 28th 2020). I wanted to prove that it is possible to learn the violin as an adult and that it really is NEVER too late to learn.
To this day I have been playing the violin for 2 years and 7 months and I created this video during my anniversary last year. I hope this video will inspire many others to pick up the violin or any other musical instrument.

Still stunned how nice you are able to phrase from the very beginning! I just played your 2-years progress to my boyfriend and he guessed that you're already playing for 5 years 😄👏
Thank you Lilly, always so kind 😊Hahaha wow I'll take that massive compliment! Honestly watching your progression has kept me inspired along with our other Instagram friends 😁🙏
Omg you played Sherlock that's why I want to get into playing the violin! Can I just say that you have the best taste in music? Kudos to you, amazing and insane progress in just 2 years! Ty for sharing your progress, sending love from France :)
Thank you so much for your kind words, I really appreciate it! Omg I'm the same, Sherlock was one of the reasons why I wanted to learn the violin! I'm going to be editing my 3 years video soon so stay tuned! 😁
I hope that in two years I will play the violin as well as you.
I'm sure you will, keep at it!
Wow this is so impressive. I just bought a violin and got a teacher. My dream has always been to play the violin but I had this idea that it is too late. Now I just turned 30 and decided to go for my dream. This video got me so excited and you are playing many of the pieces I want to play 😍
Amazing work !!
Amazing, I'm glad you've decided to pick up the violin, it truly is an amazing journey. Honestly it is never too late to learn. I first picked up the violin when I was 26 and I'm turning 30 this year. To this day I'm still consistently playing and taking regular lessons 😄🎻
Bravo!
Wow the 1year11months vibrato is super impressive!!!
Thank you very much! 😄🙏
Pretty cool
Amazing progress for 2 years, keep up the great work.
Thank you very much, that's very kind of you 😊
amazing progress man. congratulation.
Thank you very much my friend 😄🎻
I've just released my 3 years progress video if you're interested 👍
Thank you for showing us your progress on the violin during those 2 years. I am a 36-year-old person who has been learning the violin self-taught for 4 months. These videos help me get inspired and not despair. Could you include the list of songs you were learning in this video?
Now I'm trying to learn Minuet 1 by S.Bach. it's hard to sound very clean
No problem at all, I'm glad it inspired you 🙂 Most of the pieces I played in this video is from the Suzuki volumes. Any others are pieces from films, games etc. Ah yes the Minuet, I also struggled to make this sound clean. My teacher helped me out a lot with this which I was very grateful for. All the best with your journey! Please check out my other videos if you haven't already. I also recently uploaded my 3 years progression video 👍
Great progress! Keep it up 👍
Thank you so much! 🙏
Amazing progress dude! 💞 Whos that handsome guy playing piano back there 😅😅
Haha he's a very talented guy 😉
This is amazing keep it up. Subbed 👍
Thank you so much for your support! 😊🙏
Incredible progress in 2 years, you had vibrato masted at 1 year! How long did you play before finding a teacher? I found I could only progress so far going the self-taught route (developed some bad habits also).
Thank you very much! I was self-taught on and off for about 2 years prior. I totally agree, I was afraid I would develop bad habits and decided to find a teach for professional guidance.
@@peterquanmusic Wow, 2 years is a long time learning on your own. I see you do play other instruments so you can read music and tell if your in or out of tune😉
Fantastic progress in just 2 years. I've been learning the violin entirely from scratch for 3 months now, and your video is very inspiring. Can you share what do you often practice in a session?
Thank you very much and all the best with your violin journey! I made a video which shows the type of exercises that I normally go through in my routine: th-cam.com/video/V0K_ZWzN_eQ/w-d-xo.html

What is the name of the piece you were playing at the 1yr 4 month mark please? I've been playing violin for 3 months now and this video is motivational and inspiring :)
Thank you very much for your kind words! It is from a famous Chinese song called "Ni Zen Me Shuo". I played this all by ear so unfortunately there aren't any music sheets I can share. 3 months wow! Keep going with it, you've embarked on a wonderful journey!
How did your vibrato develop so fast
My teacher thankfully taught me very early. I spent many many hours on it to figure out what worked and what didn't 😁
But you said did nt have a teacher the first year
No way bro knows vibrato in one year
Nothing but hard work 😉
I don't understand why people lie!
vibrato the 1st month 😂
It isn't a lie. It was during my self-taught stage so I was trying it. I didn't say I perfected it 😉
what is the piece of music you were playing 3:32
Shostakovich - Waltz No. 2 👍
Bravo hai imparato presto il vibrato
Thank you very much!
Im in my 7th yr and I cant even play that good 🥺😭
I'm sure you play perfectly well 😉🎻
Can you please tell me how much you practiced in a day ?
For the first 2 years I practised for a few hours every day. Nowadays I practise for 1 hour for a few days a week 🙂
How did you learn vibrato so fast?
My teacher taught me very early and very well. I'm so thankful for her as I didn't ask to learn it at all 🙏
@peterquanmusic one day can you make a video on how?
@@missdatoo9590 I actually have on my Instagram @peterquanmusic You're not the first person to ask me this. I may have to upload it to TH-cam 😝
Hi there, I have now uploaded my vibrato tutorial to my channel. I hope this helps you 😉
@@peterquanmusic thanks!
You are too good! I followed you on instagram. I'm a little jealous 😹, my progress is slower 😄
Thank you so much! Don't think about speed of progression, as long as you enjoy it and you're learning nothing else matters 😁
Thank you, I'll try 😀
Bravo !
