Couple Sells San Francisco House to Live in a Tiny Teardrop Camper Trailer

  • Valerie & Jessi from Happy Camper Wives are a lesbian couple exploring long term travel while living full-time in a tiny T@b Teardrop Trailer home. Check out their TH-cam channel: / @happycamperwives
    They sold their house in San Francisco, downsized their stuff and became minimalist nomads just over four months ago. At first they thought they'd travel for a year in the tiny teardrop trailer and then maybe move to Florida. But after four months, they've realized they love this lifestyle and want to continue the adventure in Europe and New Zealand once they've conquered North America.
    Jessi finds work online as a web designer, and Valerie is the logistics manager of the trip and she makes it all happen smoothly.
    Some of the challenges they've faced with their new lifestyle is choosing locations to travel to based on weather since they live an indoor/outdoor lifestyle. High speed internet is another challenge they've had to overcome. Campground WiFi just isn't fast enough to do a full day of online work so they've bought a Verizon Jet Pack.
    We think these two ladies have an awesomely positive attitude and we love their willingness to give up physical stuff in order to spend more time doing what they love and spending time together. We're excited to follow them on social! Here are their links:

      Everything you would ever need or want is in there. We've traveled in our for five years now and haven't regretted it for a minute. Air conditioned, heat, stove, refrigerator, shower and toilet, king size bed and cabinets - even an entertainment center. We love it! As seniors, we spend our time in national and state parks for maybe $20 a night.

    Minimalism is what makes life a lot more enjoyable, whether it be a small camper, a van, a car, a tiny home, or a smaller home and apartment. If you don't worry about accumulating stuff or competing against "the jones" then you will have less stress because you will work less and have more time. Time is the only thing you can't buy and all of us have a set amount of it, eventually it will run out.

    • @recycled3654
      @recycled3654 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True that. Plus the fact that you could do more with your life than working to live only a few years to RV around the country and then get too sick to travel. One of the biggest regrets of dying people is that they didn't experience more in their lives and wished they explored more when they were younger.

    • @recycled3654
      @recycled3654 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not about having nothing, it's about getting out of the illusion that things make you happy. It's like escaping the trap of consumerism that enslaves people into work/buying/debt lifestyle that traditional society dictates how you should live. Which leads us into differing political ideologies......so maybe it's not for some people. When you say homeless, are you using contempt ? Different kinds of homeless today. Homeless vs home less often, two different concepts actually.

      350 dollar a month for internet is really awkward as well. I pay (in the Netherlands) 35 euro a month for 12 Mbit down, 3 Mbit upstream (solid continuous speed). Pay 20 dollar for limitless highspeed internet, phone, sms on my mobile phone (including two full months in other European countries).
      And for the camping fee, 900 dollar seems rather luxurious. You could house sit, rent a backyard, boondock or things like that and save lots of money.
      But i guess they haven't really dived into those things because the luxury was good enough to them which offcourse is completely fine.
      Well, have been looking into this kind of lifestyle, but i rather convert and use a boxtruck or a moving van (or, as the Netherlands contains the worlds largest flower auction sites, an insulated boxtruck previously used for flower sales).

    Nice to see a REAL video of REAL people, who are living tiny! I am so wanting a camper to go places, ok let me get real here, GLAMPING!
    My husband would like one that drives, full contained but the cost on those, unless used maybe, is unreasonable. We never go camping/glamping but the small rv camper has been something we are looking at.
    Unless your’e retired and maybe with enough money, working still is sorta inevitable. My husband is a consultant and I am a Licensed Medical Massage practitioner. Easy for him to do remote work, a slight bit more challenging for myself!
    Just wanted to thank you for this insight you gave into “Tiny Living”.

The welcome letter excitedly informed me to start an online account so that I can "start spending immediately". I will not be doing so. The entire collective consciousness for modern living involves debt. You have to make a specific conscious decision to avoid it. If you just go with the flow, the flow is debt. This is why credit education has had to crop up to help counteract too many of us unwashed masses from going bankrupt, a necessary problem in such a society, but TOO many of us in bankruptcy is bad.
      You have to make a specific decision to avoid debt in order to participate in modern society.

      epSos.de It's prolly way cheaper than where they were living. Plus they're traveling all over the county, whereas your "flat" is stationary.

      I kind of get it that they used to live in a very expensive city. They could just have moved to a cheaper and smaller city, and then make road trips.
      They will get to this conclusion one day, but for now they seem to experiment and to enjoy their trips.

    • @kolaida
      @kolaida 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      epSos.de- I Totally agree. I don't understand where they are getting all this money from? They aren't selling things on ebay. I mean there are a lot of employers that are utilizing people at the house and allowing them to work remotely. Even so, I imagine they have to be working round the clock to earn that kind of money. I own a house and am spending way less than them. I also make fairly decent money and I'm unsure I could or would want to afford $1250/mth on fees for internet and campground fees. I mean it kind of defeats saving money. And they aren't even getting equity. It'd be one thing if they were spending less than $500/mthly for ALL their needs then it would be the life. I just learned I never want to do this, LOL!

    • @misswwonka

      I learned from my personal experience that's not really true. I had a one bedroom place just one block from the beach in Long Beach for 825. And my gas and electric bills were never over $35 dollars. New upgrades on everything.
      I looked in the area for about 2 weeks. Places close to there are more expensive and also more cheap. I took what I found at the time and later discovered there was more. Some where crappy and more cheap. Some where crappy and more expensive. Some where better and more cheap. Some where better and more expensive.
      At the end of the day it taught me the best way to look for a great place that you want is using every tool consistently every single day. Either way I would do just fine in a tiny house or a regular house because I know how to look and shop.
      So think about it next time you may look for a place. Oh and this crazy old man laughed at me when I told him my price range and he told me I would never fond anything in that area cheaper or better. That place had no upgrades right on the beach and I would be embarrassed to have guest there.
      My place was just a few hundred feet away and much much nicer. Also I could just cross the street to walk on the sand. So check better next time you look. There's nice places and affordable everywhere. Just don't listen to people. Use all the tools. Penny saver, leasing offices, and their list, and their website, online, your feet, and driving.
      I learned that most nice places that are affordable don't publish everywhere. The way they do it is almost as if they get the right person in that they want to rent to. Without having to tell a bunch of people we don't want you to live here. While I lived there I even heard of nicer communities like Naples near by that had cheaper places too.

    Great message! I have been looking at downsizing from a 1,012 Sq ft house, to a tiny house. I hadn't considered a teardrop until now. Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Safe travels :)

    Loved this! I could so live that life (especially if my tow vehicle was a van to haul a couple motorcycles in the back of)
