      +Leo Nidas That's an extremely common mistake action movie goons make, holding a gun inches away from a person's face; there must be a thousand Krav Maga, CQC , Judo, Aïkido or whatnot holds to get away from such position.
      In that scene I guess you could argue that the goon only wanted Vincent's wallet and planned to use his gun as a mere threat (it's downtown, someone could hear gunshots, he's on foot, etc.)

    • @sunslap
      @sunslap 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      because it's paced weird, has weird scene transitions, and the chemistry between cruise and fox seems extremely forced and awkward in multiple scenes, not enough characters to keep the run time interesting, not to mention the whole movie feels like it's filmed with some sort of old soap opera camera making the quality of the entire film feel pretty cheap. I think cruises gunwork and his "hey homie, is that my briefcase? " line were great, but I do not think for one second this movie is underrated. IMO if Cruise wasn't in this movie, with that one scene, nobody would talk about it.

      So I think there is different type of favoritism at play here (alot of ass kissing and strong arming ) besides the the ole give give your tribe all the accolades thingy that everyone with victim mentally seem to be peddling as fact on the net these days.
      I always found it weird how ppl can really dig a person's work but talk down on their lineage.
      And somehow never figure out that the work they love came from somewhere long before the person who created it was even born.

It seems very show-boaty, until you notice how fast Cruise is going. Then he's in the helicopter they used for filming. Not just in it, flying it. Not just flying it, he does a loop! Countless movies like Collateral, he does what others rely on stunt men for. When you see him doing it, check it out, he really is doing it.

      Sino Deutsch It's fun, but certainly not better than Collateral. The latter wins in terms of cool factor AND realism, and it bothered me how much John Wick was CGI'd. Mann's authentic gunplay is always unparalleled. And there's just so much more going on in his action scenes, emotionally and intellectually. Nothing against John Wick, but it was your run of the mill "kill everything" revenge flick. The action scenes in Collateral have more substance built beneath them.

    Michael Mann is such a truly excellent director. The films he's made over the last two decades I've been a parade of masterpieces. He doesn't get as much brand recognition as some of the pop culture blockbusters, but his aesthetic is truly a joy to experience

    I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. I was lucky enough to meet Mr Cruise years ago in London. It was a purely by chance kind of thing, and he was very personable and friendly. I was a complete stranger to him but he took the time out to greet my friends and I. While I think Scientology may be out there on the fringe I don't think that places everyone who practices it on the fringe as well. I've enjoyed all his movies so far and will probably continue to

    It is ridiculous that people don't give this guy the credit he deserves. He works incredibly hard, really nice guy and gifted actor. Keeps his political opinions to himself gives a 200% every movie. It's incredible how people think his mission impossible franchise is a comfort zone look at the stuff he does in that film that's not what I'd call comfort. All his cast members love him and more importantly respect him.

      How do you figure? He's one of the highest paid actors, always draws a smashing box office, is loved by almost everyone in this comments section (despite his wackiness), and only gets more popular with every movie in which he stars.
      I'd say he absolutely gets the credit he deserves.

Simply magnific. Actually this scene is being used alot by shooting instructors because it serves pretty well to show something realistic and closer to the real deal. Tom cruise is badass.

    The thing that I liked about the “Vincent” character is that you can tell he’s an “ex” something. Ex, Ranger, SEAL, delta-etc. I liked that the audience never really knew what kind of person he was before becoming a hit man.
    I liked the fact that Vincent adapted to the environment. When Vincent lost his work ups (hit list) he adapted quick and sent in a gofer to get the rest of the list. If max got killed-it was no skin off Vincent’s back- he’d move on-find another way to get the list. He keeps his amenity intact.
