  • It's a crew show! Matt's car is broken in!!! The day has finally arrived (sort of). He took it on a 800 mile trip and will give us all the details. Plus, a deep dive into the McLaren Artura and why it's the best McLaren yet (besides the F1, of course).
Then we answer questions about GR markups, Elantra N sure things, dailies for enthusiasts that live in snowy places, and what marked our greatest successes of the year.

For what it's worth, favorite content this year for me has been, in no particular order.
    - All Cars Go to Heaven 3, then watching All Cars Go to Heaven 1 on a projector.
    - interview with the Turn Signal app founder.
    - Interview with Vinn, talking about his new, new forever car.
    - Larry Chen episode talking about Baja and helicopters
    - Autopian Show w Torch, David, and The financier / Car enthusiast. I want to say Beau, but not sure I'm correct.
    - Bronco Raptor review
    - Inside baseball about Supercars, anytime
As a civil drafting tech; the Westside Collector Car Storage structure is endlessly fascinating. Just the ramp into the underground parking is nuts. That 99.9% perfect slope, finished to sheet drain, while allowing supercars to park?!
The rebar and code revisions, the L.I.D. and how it impacts owners. Really just the whole dang thing is impressive.

I just wanted to take a moment to state some of the top reasons I appreciate both of your channels, and more often check out your content compared to the other auto channels in my subscription feed is both the breadth (including non-auto) of content and the ethics/integrity that you both bring to the table. You own your mistakes when made occasionally, are quick to correct the record or address possible controversies, and all the while correcting those that misquote you when talking about the FiST/E46 M3.
    Keep up the great radio.

If you pay ADM on anything, I am not your friend. Even if you are rich enough to do it, that's not how you stay rich. Just take the day or two of time it takes to call out of state and find an MSRP dealer. Even if you have to pay 1 to 2k in shipping, it gives business to the awesome dealers out there and shows the "mandatory dealer accessories" guys that they can't pull one over on their customers anymore. Just too many people with way more money than patience these days unfortunately.
Recently bought a Veloster N at 1k below sticker in my state. (Oregon) Every other dealer I asked had a 5 to 10k markup on all N models but I called around and used autotrader and happened to find one below MSRP. I thought surely they would at least ask for MSRP when I got to the dealer, but it was in a small town and it must have been sitting for awhile as I was able to drive away an hour later for the 34k plus DMV fees.

Re: the water temp. Higher water temps reduce NOX in the exhaust.
BMW's have been doing this trick since the late 1990s. The constant cycling of the water temp from 220 down 180 and back again is the main cause of their exploding coolant systems. They heat cycle out all the plastic and it gets brittle.
The Boostane will turn your plugs orange, could poison the converter over time, and I don't think it's legal in CA. It also will make you sick if you get it on your skin. Stuff works, but be careful. I wear gloves when I'm mixing it.

the temp difference is probably at least partially due to it leaning out the fuel mix for better mpg in normal mode, and in sport it richens up the mixture, gives it more fuel basically, which cools everything down. Lean is mean, lean raises temps, the atomization and vaporization of the fuel actually cools down an engine.

1:07:43 My Cayman GTS 4.0 also stays around ~210-215 when fully warmed up when cruising around - initially it freaked me out when temps didn't maintain (fan turning on / thermostat opening, etc) around ~190 and kept climbing, but apparently it's just how Porsche programmed it for reasons you described. when i dig into sport / sport+ and heavier throttle, the temps stay 200~220 and never move around more than that.

  • @z06van21
    @z06van21 ปีที่แล้ว

Matt: You should look into adding MCS coil-overs to your Spyder to complete it. I added MCS 2-ways on my GT4 and it makes a BIG difference when the roads starts to turn to crap. I am in the Bay Area and our roads I think are even worse that LA area. You have lots of sharp impact road imperfections there in LA area, but we have larger bumps and dips and my stock GT4 got very unsettled at speed when trying to deal with them, especially on the rebound stroke.
The stock GT4/Spyder is amazing when the roads are smooth, but leaves A LOT to be desired when the roads really turn to crap.

Most hybrids and all EVs charge the low-voltage battery from the high-voltage system when they are on. However, not all of them are designed with the ability in their internal computer to turn the HV battery on when the car is off and not charging. Given that modern cars all have fairly high drain, McLaren made a sensible design choice, and in the future all cars will do the same thing, at least until the HV battery reaches a certain minimum level.

Not your successfulness based off of the choices you were making. WW helps you understand that if you eat that donut, this is what you should eat the rest of the day if you want to achieve your goals. My goal was to be healthy and reach a healthy BMI. Me losing 80 pounds over the past year is just the result of consistently making the right choice.

Bit of a Mclaren fan here..
V6 engine: no thanks, V6's are some of the most unbalanced engines both in terms of primary secondary and tertiary vibration, I6 and V12 are perfect but a V8 or I4 isn't terrible, but V6 is the worst.
The mclaren F1 did 241mph with a 6speed so why does this need 33% more gears to do less?).
From what I know in the industry the reasons for more gears tends to be based around EPA testing on emissions because for any speed you're more likely to be in the peak efficiency part of the rpm band...cool so your car is more expensive and heavier to meet rolling road emissions because the engine has good *peak* hp and torque numbers but only in a really tiny little area. So peak efficiency at 3000rpm (nerfed fueling map), peak torque at 6000rpm and peak horsepower at 8000rpm but relying on the electric motor to pick up the slack everywhere else to prevent it feeling like its powered by a dremel, Atleast its light.

Ok let me start off I love your shows.... BUT.....can you keep the politics off your shows. We know your liberal you don't have to continue to speak against conservatives.....Again please keep your shows off of politics. We come for cars NOT politics. Thx.
