    I learned an sp1200 in 1997 with a bag of dro and a room full of records in about 5 hours I was already sampling/ making beats it looks complex but it's not , on these types of machines it's all done by ears you close your eyes and go by ear and passion but that's what forces you to become creative and it's actually faster and fun your going by feeling/ funk just like a dj would by controlling a crowd but it's Hella funky I still got my o.g Grey sp1200 and it still rocks

    Love this review. Make sense if you have the original. Still thinking about getting one even though I have the ISLA 2400. It’s just knowing that I have that piece of history which I would never sell to sit alongside my MPC3000 and my my MOOG Model D reissue.

    This is a solid, educated, factual - while opinionated- review, from a real producer-- and THANK YOU for it. TH-cam needs more reviews like this.

    Would love one but the sky high obscene 4k price tag is holding me back especially since I already own an Octatrack and SP 404MK2 that do way more and easier to work with on a regular basis. I rather wait for a new Oberheim DMX drum synth or buy something else. Rossum Assimil8or is great option for modular users.

    I'm sure the isla2400 has more features, but this is familiar with me, sad both don't have same chip Isla/rossum (there are chip differences from original sp1200 ssm2044 chip and these ssm2144 Isla rossum chips)

    Imma MPC man, I own a MPC One, and, have owned the older units, but, never having any experience with an actual Sp1200, I learned my way around the Low Hiss version within a couple of days, so I can translate that to an actual unit, I recommend a person try the Low Hiss, to get familiar with how the unit works

    Seems to sound somewhat more hi-fi than the original - perhaps due to the parts they had to change due to old parts being out of production. Otherwise, it does sound very similar - even down to such aspects as almost identical aliasing at various settings.

    Yoo real dope review, still wondering if the filters have the fast attack slope that the og sp has, cause that made them less usuable for lowpassing stuff, which i also believe contributed to why people used the 950, thanks!

    • @illegist
      @illegist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the Rossum does not have any control over the filter's fast decay setting. It's the same fast attack as an OG unit. The only added control is Resonance, and the Frequency control is moved from inside the unit to the rear panel. My Emu SP's have both been modded to filter without that fast attack like the S950. I may mod the Rossum to match my other units.

    • @disxiple_113
      @disxiple_113 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Technically you do have some control over the envelopes over filters one and two. You can now shut said envelopes completely off. Jazzcat filters on the way for me. Can’t wait. 🎉

    Not too many videos out there at the moment on the Rossum 1200 beside yours. Nice review mate!.
    As someone who has been working on an SP1200 as my main sampler for many years now, I am looking to pick up one of these Rossum units soon.
    Should give me time to do some repairs on my unit.
    Just one question..How are the drum trigger pads? Have you popped one off to see if it is still the spring/pin contact action. Do they feel more firm and springy than the originals.. if that makes sense haha?
    Cheers, O.

    My thing is if you going to remake the sp1200 they should of made the same sound output but with more modern features and capabilities. Its too pricey to have the same ole old stuff and capabilities. To me its overpriced. However i do own the original and appreciate the old Sp. But if you gonna remake it, have it come with some updates
