    PAUL C IN HEAVEN RIGHT NOW LIKE "man wit those extra 10 secs..." but for real, dope video Cookin. For those that don't know about Paul C, trace his lineage. There is a reason Rakim had a sp1200 dedicated shrine to him in his house.
    Hope Large Pro gets hands on one of these. Rossum killed this and we all owe him a lot of thanks.

      @HipHopHobbyKlub I was just commenting on the legacy of Paul C and showing respect. Yeah it’s a drum machine and sampler. It’s a instrument in the right person hands. I know that you had one also. I believe I seen a video on a channel where a lady beatmaker said that you gave her yours if I’m not mistaken. I subscribed to her channel.

      @@hiphophobbyklub with a very specific sound signiture that makes beats, specifically snares crack! So it isn't "just a machine." Remake hip hop classic made on it in software, or even 2000xl, sp404 or asr10 & see if you can get it to sound the same... They'll all sound different.

      Only someone not old enough would say that. Nothing touches the 80's.
      80's was king in music period... EVERYTHING was "stupid dope fresh".
      The 90's was dope too but it was the beginning of the end. Things just hit different after the 90's where Nas had to make an album about it. I am sorry but the 80's was bananas and off the chain. Music on a whole blew it's load in the 80's.

    Question: Why would you want HipHop to sound any other way?
    The beauty about boom-bap is that whether it’s jazz or rock influenced, the percussion takes centre stage, whilst all other instruments compliment and enhance the audio creation that you are witnessing.

    • @RossumElectroMusic
      @RossumElectroMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      No, the SP-1200 reissue does not heat up noticeably like a classic vintage instrument. You can comfortably touch any part of the case, for example to reach over the back to adjust the filter sliders. All of the vents have been removed as they are no longer necessary. Also, the power brick uses a locking XLR-style connector that won't come loose during a performance.

    I have no regrets selling my original sp1200 which i had from brand new.
    The price point to me is good considering the build quality and believe me it will last for at least 30 years, so divide that 3k over years months weeks
    For me tho the best thing about the sp1200 series is the actual fun it is using them, the layout, the ease of use, it all just feels great.
    With that being said, different strokes for different folks just enjoy and kill it

    This aesthetically looks dope as hell, and I’ve been contemplating getting one. To settle this shit once and for all, we need a side by side of an original SP1200 with the SSM2044 chip, a later model SP with the SSI2144 and an Isla S2400, which also has the SSI2144. Then we can all decide for ourselves which sounds the best. You had 2 of them side by side, yet we get an off camera comparison. Let’s see it in real action.

    • @fawkkyutuu8851
      @fawkkyutuu8851 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's already known that the SSM2044 chips are still the best and you can listen to SSM2044 vs SSI2144 side by side and there's a noticable advantage with the SSM2044 , but I honestly can't hear any difference In this video. You can hear It In the new Prophet 5 reissues vs the original Prophet 5's which have the SSM2044. New SP1200 sounds close enough that's all that matters , imo It really sounds 100% exact even though It's not because It's using the new 2144 chips and they aren't exact. Better to spend $4000 rather than 8k on old potentially unreliable originals , that's alot of money to gamble with.

    While I agree that it is better than the OG one thing to remember is the longevity of the uint and while this new one is built better with more robust casing likely better sliders and knobs and an external power supply you must also consider that the new one has certain components, which can be view on the board at Dave's site, that are surface mounted and while these components are no doubt reliable future repairs or replacements on tiny surface mounted components can only be done by an expert tech with years of skill, it's not something a layman can do at home with a basic soldering iron. Most companies simply replace the board when these items go bad which is not going to be an option here. Yes it can be repaired but you have to go to a specialist.

      @@cookinsoul As far as I know he hasn't updated the midi implementation on this, really wished he added that as it wouldn't make a big departure from the OG. I think I am right in saying it's pretty limited and by that I mean the OG. I don't think you can use a pitch wheel? Let's say you were playing a bassline on a synth and you want to add a pitch bend to a note which is something I may find myself doing without thinking about it. But still with all this said it sound reigns supreme to this day, nothing and I mean nothing beats it for drums IMO, and the new one is just as good. All this means is I have now to buy one now. Hopefully should get an order in before the end of the year.

    If you had to choose between the Rossum SP-1200 or a vintage Akai MPC3000, which one would be the winner?
