    I have watched a few of your videos so far, and they get me real excited. These past ten years have been hell for me living in the US. If I move to the Philippines I just want a one acre homestead growing enough food for two people.

    I experienced tin roofs on Boy Scout campgrounds when I was a kid. I too love the sound of the rain, although it can be noisy. In the future you might consider just narrating a slide show of still photos when giving a tour. Your camera movement is a little unsettling at times. Beautiful place. You sound so relaxed.

    I used bamboo furniture inside until I could afford better furniture inside. I put the bamboo outside on the porch. My walls were finished both inside and outside. I had two c/r s and a heating coil to take the cold ting off the water. I made my own blocks. I cut trees for the purlins for the roof.
    Our 1300 Square foot home was about $15,000. You did better than I did.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Just a suggestion - before spending on anything else, strengthen those roof truss anchors. Also, add teks screws for your GI roof. It's only a matter of time before the next big typhoon hits. These measures won't cost much.

    Brian excuse my ignorance why build / construct a well in the format that you have done as what we do is Drill / bore drop an 8 to 10 inch shaft to normally 60 to 100 ft place a submersible pump into the shaft pump water on demand and also to 1000 liter PVC storage tank in the attic space or highest point of the house for toilet hot water cylinder as an open well can be prone to contamination

    • @aforeignerfarminginthephil3374
      @aforeignerfarminginthephil3374  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I did the well the way it is because it's generally the way it is done here. Deep wells are not common so compotent drillers aren't either. Deep wells here half the time get saltwater because I am only 1 kilometer from the ocean. Magnitude 5+ earthquakes happen at least 2-3 times in a 10 year period of time usually destroying the casing. Any 1 of those except the first are reason enough for me...☺

    My house isn't finished yet. It is up and has a roof. But need to finish. Had to dump 20 truck loads of gravel for road. And several thousand feet of power line. It is in pangasinan north central Luzon. Pretty much been planning on doing what you and your lovely wife are doing. So it is with keen interest that I keep track of your vids.

    Just curious , why not use metal studs and drywall partitions in the interior partition of the house instead of hollow blocks and concrete beams ? drywall partitions are lighter materials meaning its easy to handle :-))....or it's not available in the area ?

    Hi Brian! You mentioned that Maricel is from Mindanao . You’re lot is big . How’s the real state situation in your area now? We have land up northern Luzon but it’s getting crowded now and I want to live like where you at! Pls give me advise on terms of land price.thank you!!

    • @aforeignerfarminginthephil3374
      @aforeignerfarminginthephil3374  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The price really depends on the quality of the land and what you want to do on it/with it. Most reasonable flat vacant close to a decent road is 100+ peso per sq. meter. I wouldn't got over 200 unless just a small residential lot.

      Your comment illustrates the sickness that is rampant in the US. Over indulgence. When i was a child in the 60's and 70's our family of 6 lived in a house this size. Now a 800+ square foot house is considered "tiny"...

    Thats a very nice video Brian. I would like to go back to the simple life I was used to growing up in the Philippines. As of now, I'm taking the stressful life, working in the US, helping my husband pay the bills and the house and preparing for his retirement plan. We are helping each other and in 8 yrs or less, if we can have enough savings, we will move to the Phils. We are done with our first step which is buying a land in Palawan. Oh gosh, I'm jealous of those Pinays who got married to foreigners without coming here in the US. But I think God's plan is better than mine.

I'd like just ask how are You prepared if your area will be hit by typhoon or earthquake? I'm thinking about moving to Philippines and do some farming too, just to have some income and live in coutryside. I'd like to build a house and doing some research how to make it resistant to these elements. Thank You and all the best. Pavel

    Amazing, simply amazing;) You sir like Terence are living the dream:) You guys are living like we should be. I feel that man has gotten so far from how God has intended us to live, that we don't even recognize the fake struggle we have allowed to be created by those in expensive suites. I have been living as off grid and basic as I can for the last 3 yrs and love it. I plan to go even more basic as soon as possible. The only thing great about advanced communication is being able to find others like your self and learn and share experiences. Great video:) Blessings to you both:)

    Brian, what type of job did you have in the states. You know your stuff. Love the way you layed out your garden. Did you drill some small holes in the Pvc piping and add a water connection will help watering plants. It also will be a nice place to relax after planting season. A few chairs and a table will be good for when you have gatherings. Just an idea. Hope you didn't hurt your back to badly. Relax and stay rubbed down. Take care you and Maricel many blessings. Nice holding tank also. Wish I was there to help, I used to have my own home repair and Hvac business and I went to trade school for plumbing also. Your ideas are spot on. I'm a retired Steam Plant Engineer and Navy Veteran. Also I did some hotel maintenance also. Man I was a workaholic. Lol. I see you are too. The area around the trees should have some good Petemose under the leaves and Beth and Terance can bring you some chicken poop (let dry first) that will help your plants grow larger and bigger Chicken poop is a good fertilizer and you don't have to use a lot one good spread over your garden is good. Than you can use lime to protect your plants from insects. Egg shell around your eggplants will keep worms from around their stems. Dusting with lime lightly after your plants are leafing couple times. I hope this helps. Just some suggestions. I did this when I planted my garden and the results were amazing.

    Hollow blocks have any rebar in them or are they just going to crack up in earthquake? About the foundation what's the size of the foundation and how much rebar is in that? All the stuff people don't worry about until something goes bad like an earth quake there was big one just yesterday off of Davao in the ocean.
    Also I heard that Bohol is possibly on top of shelves similar to parts of manila. Is that true?
