    Hello Brian and Marceil. I noticed you also didn't mention Council rates or land tax in your monthly costs or don't you have to pay them for some reason. I presume you don't pay house insurance because your house wouldn't be so expensive to repair or rebuild if it was damaged by an earthquake or typhoon, so you must think the cost of the insurance isn't worth it. Also I think it is good to have at least third party property insurance for your vehicle which at least covers the cost of damage caused by your vehicle to someone else's vehicle or property. Oh, and also in Australia they have third party compulsory insurance which covers people injured in an accident caused by your vehicle which I think is an absolute must. I prefer you quoting everything in pesos, then I can just convert everything fr pesos and not have to worry about converting from US dollars to Australian dollars. Thank you both for your videos. I enjoy watching them. Please take care. Regards Jason

    My monthly expenses are 10 to 12,5k Peso for me and my gf. When i was single in Cebu City it was 7,5k to 10k Peso a month. Always including Visa fees as a Tourist. My monthly rent is 2000Peso a month and together we need 110Peso on average per day for food and water.

    GREAT video. Simple but nice.
    You got a nice lady not a good digger. I'm American and found a great lady also. Her family learned not to ask her for money because we're on a budget. Our son comes first she told them. They see me as a Filipino since I speak the language good. They forgot I'm a "foreigner". When we can we give 2k here n there. Lucky they're 2 day's away on bus.

    Living in the province like bohol is too cheaper unlike other provinces which are 1st class...if you are retired american and find ordinary wife and spend your monthly pension in Philippines you will be rich foreigner with that no lavish lifestyle..1000 us dollars pension spend in phil is pretty good but mr brian try to treat your wife going out for dinner at least once a month so she could experience life which is not ordinary life...

      Plain PhilHealth is not the best insurance, but is certainly better than none! My Uncle got sick with a gut parasite two years ago. 4 days, and 3 nights in a Hospital cost him about 15,000php. If he had Philhealth, the bill would have been about half that amount! He will gladly pay the lousy $326.00 yearly premium if he takes his wife and kid home to Mindanao for a visit! I'm planning to do the same this December, when I fly to Phills.

      When I went home in Cebu I inquire n asked I will soon be senior 3years after n the lady said, it depends how I shld pay my health insurance, so I decided to pay it full b4 I reach my senior age. N my decision to such payment are....no more worries n no more due date to pay. I stayed in the hospital for only two days. The total cost is 64k pesos. From my PhilHealth n my SSS acct# 55k pesos was deducted. I only payed 19k from my own savings.. These includes all x-rays, medicines, room accommodation, doctors n nurses services.

    Brian, I have followed different lives in the philipines. I once heard that the exchange rate was 35 to the dollar. I remember you saying your life style is not based on the exchange rate. I have to ask do you feel it safe to not have life insurance, health insurance and vehicle insurance. If you base your life style on the lower rate you can possibly adjust to cover these things and adjust to inflation. I've heard expats say that because of insurance in a vehicle accident they did not have to bicker about people trying to sue or drain you dry. Your constantly climbing and also getting older, as you know it's your responsibility to ensure Maricel do not have to struggle paying for circumstances so life and health insurance is necessary. Brian lessen the burden on Maricel. I know that you may feel the things you are investing in now will see her through. Always remember there is a time of adjustment when something happens it's a huge burden. Please plan to ensure some form of relief financially is in place to hold Maricel over even if it's just enough to cover the help so she can care for you properly. Find what it takes for you both to live comfortablely, pay the staff and there benefits and plan for the unkown. As you know it is said an accident will happen, it's just how you have prepared yourself to absorb the blow.

    When I heard Brian commenting on the cost of apartments in Manila or Cebu I about choked! Yeah, you can spend that if that's your lifestyle but 15-25k pesos will get you a nice apartment in either. I lived in Angeles in 1999 and I paid 7k peso for a nice 2 bedroom 2 bath up and down apartment. That was 1999 but now you can get the same in Angeles for 10-15k peso for an unfurnished apartment. I'm moving back to the Philippines in a couple of years when my civil service disability converts to a regular annuity. I'll have CS, military and SSDI pensions coming in. I don't live extravagant but I wouldn't move to the PI on less than 4k a month and a minimum of 50k in savings. That's just me.

    My wife and I have a place over in Alabang Muntinlupa Metro Manila that is paid for. But I bought like a two horse aircon for the main living room and a .5 horse for our bedroom. I ran them 24/7 thinking they would be cheap. When the electric bill cam due I almost had a heart attack it was 12,500 pesos! LOL! My electric bill in the USA only runs like a$100.00 US and our small two bedroom home is all electric. After that I paid like 55,000 pesos for a Samsung split inverter air con for our Manila home and it is much more efficient. Live and learn! : )

That's about $60 USD then p3000 for our girl, that's another $60 the rest we spend on groceries, gas, and miscellaneous stuff we want. We live a pretty good life on that $650, and never run out of money by the end of the month.

However now our health is on a decline. If you two are married and you plan on staying in the Philippines like I did then become a permanent resident. It is not cheap so check it out early so you will know how much to save. And your first child is probably less then a year away. Oh well my wife just said tama na it is your business not mine. I told her I mean it in a helpful way I hope. Enjoy life as I am back living in the land of ice and snow due to health reasons. Best to you guys.

    Hi Brain & Maricel.. Our normal power bill is 5K up 7 k a month but we have my loving fiance`s nephews and inang mother & Apong / Lolo = grandfather living with us we help put the 6 kids nieces & nephews through their schooling to help the pamilya as mch as I can ..but I too am very blessed also we work together, my adorable loving fiance` Merlita is the one who Manages keeps the books & our budget under Awesome control, Especially when I have to have the Aircon on during the part of the afternoon & specially at night , Except the Rainy Season Power bill goes down, cause it is cool air here...haha Not like back in Pacific North west Washington winter time or back East or Mid west /Central part of the Country.. But around harvesting the rice Season time in the fields it get very hard to breath the air for anyone I feel so bad for the young kids & the Elderly having to breath this damaging smoke in their Lungs But nothing I can do and Sadly as my Doctor told me that I have Bronchopneumonia So I have to stay in doors this time of Season as the nasty Burning of the Rice stocks piles get going at times Can get Very bad here for the people with Lung problems Living in the Ilocos Sur. Yes, there is mandatory car insurance in the Philippines. It is required during yearly vehicle registration. One is required to purchase at least a Third Party Liability (TPL) insurance for one year before you can register your car. If you are making installment payments on your vehicle, the Comprehensive Insurance (CI) is already built in, as a mandatory requirement, in your monthly amortization. Thanks for your wonderful informative videos. What makes them interesting is that they are not too long, like others. Concise and not boring.

I buy 500 at a time. Food? We eat out 1/3 of the time. TV 800, rent 15000-30000 depending on where we are. Oh well, you get the idea. It would be nice to be living in the province farming 😁👍

    I can live in Texas for 2000 US a month and that is including my 772.00 mortgage. I believe I could live on 1500.00 US in the Philippines and live a western lifestyle comfortably. 3000.00 a month to live in the Philippines?????

    • @jackfrost-fu7hz
      @jackfrost-fu7hz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I live in Texas, near Dallas, in an average house and my property taxes are 9k. Texas is very expensive.

    • @richardcole2893
      @richardcole2893 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jackfrost-fu7hz My tax rate is 1.452% I have a 3/2 brick ranch 2000 sq ft. in a quiet neighborhood with very low crime. I have a very roomy nice comfortable home. Appraised between 115-125000$ I'm assuming you live in Dallas Co. where the property tax is 2.173%. That means your home is around 410-420000 according to the Dallas, Co. appraisers office, average home, for 2018? Austin is 1.973%. Houston, TX is 2.259% on your home. You have to also take into consideration, Dallas is a Blue city, like Austin, Houston, San Antonio. Democrat areas always cost more to live in. Bet your gas & energy prices are higher too. I just filled up my pickup and car, 1.86 at Exxon and being I used my Exxon Credit card I will get another.03 discount per gallon. Is gas 1.83 a gallon in Dallas? My sister lives in Pt. Neches, TX on the coast, she told me she paid 1.72 a gallon.
      If you live in the big city, you are going to pay a whole lot more. Manila, Makati is expensive. Angeles City can be expensive, Cebu can be expensive. You are living in a home that is appraised at almost a half million dollars. Take that same home and put it in any major city on the west coast or east coast from the Carolinas up to Maine and see what your tax level would. My ex-wife's Aunt lived in Pt. Jervis, NY she was paying 10000$ on a 400000$ home 20-25 years ago. I can't imagine what it is now. She lives in the middle of the state. It depends a lot on where you want to live in our country. I prefer the country. It's cleaner, safer and much cheaper than the big city. If you shop around, you find what you want. The taxes where I live for your home would be 6000$ My taxes are 1742$ a year. That's pretty cheap.

    Phil health used to cover a married couple for that money! But, it'll cost you about $400.00 per year, Brian. I'm not sure if any upgraded coverages are available for expats, but i know the "Z" plan, for cancer and such, is not available to non-citizens. Vehicle insurance in the PI's appears to be 90% worthless, but I have read some vloggers' posts stating western style insurance can be had, but only via a few reliable companies. It's not anywhere near as bad as driving uninsured in Mexico! LOL! I wouldn't drive without it in any good sized city personally... $3,000.00 per month is more like an Angeles city party animal's budget, to be sure! lol! Satellite TV is 3,600php or so, then you load the system via phone 120-150 php per month on Mindanao. YMMV!

I am looking for ways for us to make money that does not involve me working online and the graveyard schedule (US times). So that's why your channel is helpful. I hope to learn from your trials and have a business that I can just live out in the country and not worry or stress about if we will have income. My wife has land in her province and we are seriously thinking to do the same type of setup as you. See this is the honest videos on cost of living I like cause you are correct. I can come here on my vacation and I don’t even spend 1,500 for my 2 weeks here and that includes motel and eating out plus cabs most places 90% of traveling plus tip for driver. So someone who has to live on 3,000 a month has very high standards and I just want necessarily items 1) home 2) vehicle with air con 3) sleeping in air con.
