    This is so nice. Inspiring as well. We have a ~5hectare farm in Gensan with 80 mango trees in a part of it, but we havent really maximized the land use and everything about the farm. Im on the process of accumulating enough capital for it. Anyone who is interested to venture up, pls send me a msg.

    Suggestion here Brian.Plant root crops like taro , ube, karlang, kamoteng kahoy or cassava and sweet potato or kamote.Leaves of kamote, karlang and gabi could also be use as foods for the pigs by cooking it.You can also cook the root which is the "unod".These root crops are vitamins and minerals rich.I knew you know it. As for
    how to cook this ask Maricel , she surely knows.. For cassava leaves , always mix with fresh grated coconut every time you cook it as pigs food.When you already have lots of left over produce of these crops.Sun drying or air drying it helps preserve it from spoilage.All these helps lessen your feed cost.

    Great investment you have started there, connect a pipe from the pigs septic tank to the talapia pond, it's great for growing algae for the fish, and correction, the fish don't eat the poop, they eat the algae, in addition, make another fish pond for milk fish, they eat the green algae that grow well by manure.

We have a much smaller operation due to lack of land right now, but it is possible to make a little profit for the family. It is much better than their usual fishing and provides when the sea does not.

    Yes you are a business man. Great video. The excellent planning and outlook for future gtowth. Keep up your hard work and daily planning. Do you do a monthly caculation of your insurance payments, Total income, household expenses, Taxes for annual payments and do you keep receipts. It will help you determining how many additional livestock you need to produce to be profitable. You love your wife. It's nothing like a man who prepares a system of lifelong prosperity for his family. Great job. I hope and I pray God rain down his blessings on you and all you do.

    Thank mate for an honest break down of your pig farm .
    Gives me a rough break down cost i will need to start mine
    We are plaining to retire in the Philippines in july 2021.
    We already own our house and lot with 3 shops in the front we rent out
    Have 5 acres for rice and fish pond
    And have 15 acres to build for a pig farm and mangoes.
    Am also thinging of putting a few cows on it as well there.
    We have been planning our retirement and doing thing to set us up there for more then 18years now . Only thing i will still get is a new 12 seater van for our us and to hire out to pay for all the up keep of the van ,but we will buy it when we retire.
    Will look forward to more of your video mate .wish you and your wife all the best

    In 1977 a fellow flier a C-130 flight engineer retired to San Fernando La Union and just like his dad in Iowa started a pig farm in La Union. He specialized in the huge American sows. Up until then the American hog was not being commercially farmed in the Philippines. His pigs were so popular that by the end of the first year he had expanded his piggery twice. Within 3-years with some slick marketing supporting some major food chains in Manila he was a US $ multi-millionaire. I left the Philippines in 1980 for Europe and never saw or heard about my friend the retiree again.
    Brian, I would like to comment on another video of yours when you showed the great property with the bluff overlooking the ocean and the night lights of Cebu. As a born and raised Southern California brat there were many opportunities for property when I was growing up. My parents did not see fit to invest in any of these opportunities. However, as I was looking how close Cebu is to Bohol it is not unreasonable to believe working in Cebu and commuting via ferry to and from work from Bohol. Living a life of luxury in the country side while being paid a healthy city salary working in Cebu can be anyone's dream. Let's face it Cebu is the second largest city in the Philippines and is only getting larger. Cebu is also just a short flight to Hong Kong and Macau. (another opportunity to commute?) I predict this is what's going to happen in Bohol. Wouldn't we love to own some hectares in Bulacan right now when it could have been purchased on the cheap? The Japanese are donating a fast moving light rail system for commuters from Bulacan to Manila. How sweet is that? God bless you and yours...John and Jean from Vegas. ps. Good luck with your piggery. We're rooting for you all the way.

    Hey Bryan(hope I got the spelling correct)....thanks for the honest detailed sharing of numbers. I'm not sure what your neighborhood is like but was wondering if you could set up a garbage collection process where in you can tell your neighbors to keep the kitchen wastes(vegetable or fruits) of the day for you. Also if they are any restaurants nearby that can provide you with the waste. You can use this waste to feed the pigs. It might not be that much but I'm sure it will help bring down the cost of feeding them a bit.

    • @aforeignerfarminginthephil3374
      @aforeignerfarminginthephil3374  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      actually it with am "i" but no worries. when I raised pigs in the states I did exactly the things you are suggesting such as plate scraps, day old doughnuts etc. but I have not tried anything like that here mainly because it's a different culture here than in the west...NOTHING is wasted here. anyone owning or working in a place that might have left over or dated food has 20 realitives waiting for it to be brought home...that being said, I will ask around. you never know

    Brian why don't they feed grass to the pigs to help reduce the cost of feed there??
    We always let our pigs eat the grass and weeds on our farm when i was a kid.. We also let the sows have an area for recovering after the litters were done just a small place they can rest and be in the mud and water just to heal up and have fun, my dad;s pig's averaged 16 per litter (live).. just an idea.. Plus we never butcher on our place because dad said the pigs would know that and it adds stress to them

    • @aforeignerfarminginthephil3374
      @aforeignerfarminginthephil3374  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      very good comment and suggestions. I based my litter survival rate as a "worst case" scenario. I to have had sustained survival rates of 13-14 piglets per litter. As for letting the sows roam on grass I don't really have the room and the nutrient value of grass is almost 0 when compared to a balanced feed.

    • @mikejarzynka7269
      @mikejarzynka7269 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

  • @10OZDuster
    @10OZDuster 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    normally a rice farmer would farm pigs as the rice hulls and other things that grow on the farm will be the main source of free food if you had to "buy" feeds might not be profitable but not all is about profit you raise them because you want to have control and for personal consumption which most people do...but being a tropical country and with small farmland there are many sources-plants easily grown as pigs eat almost anything and plants grown on their own with minimal to no intervention or effort...find out locally which plants pigs eat...you'll be surprised..

    Sounds like you have some Hog raising experience but I will through in my peso's worth. ;) Been a while but used to work for my Uncle on a big (medium for US) Hog operation that later was taken over by Murphy. One key point to remember is keep your pigs Isolated from others to keep disease away. The one thing that can really ruin a larger pig operation. Disinfect feet, etc. of visitors and quarantine any new pigs until you are sure they are ok. Good luck,

    Brian, you are very humble and a nice person. I am not a farmer, but your videos are very interesting and descriptive. Are you guys on Bohol? If so, your wife speaks some Bisayan. Take care and God bless!

    That's a real good living in Phils. Considering the cost of living is quite low. But of course as a foreigner you have to watch that some stores try to overcharge, etc.
