- Clout was an original all-female South African rock group formed in Johannesburg in 1977, best known for their hit single, "Substitute".
Clout's first and biggest hit, "Substitute", was a new arrangement of a Righteous Brothers song, composed by Willie Wilson. In 1978, their version reached No. 1 in South Africa, New Zealand, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Denmark and Belgium. It also reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart and remained in the UK charts for 15 weeks. Due to sanctions against South African artists and performers by UK's Equity at the time, the BBC's Top of the Pops TV programme used the group's performance of the song on the Dutch TV programme TopPop from 8 April 1978 to present the hit song for its top ten countdown.
A major success in Europe, Clout scored more Top 10 singles, notably "Save Me", "You've Got All of Me" and "Under Fire".

because it was...now a days its the same song over n over, made by same few ghost producers in the industry, thereby voiding any real originality for a sure thing, not to mention that attention span lowered so we went from 7-8 mins for originals and 4-5 minutes for radio edits down to as little as 1:30, the songs now a days lack soul and love, its all about streaming numbers and profits
cause it still is even now-great singalong music with a beat!

Es gab damals jeden Freitag um 18 Uhr die Top 10 Hitparade im Radio! Mein Radiokassettenrecorder war bereit für die Aufnahme eines evtl. neu angekündigten Hits. Die Kassette an die richtige Stelle gespult, saß ich nun total aufgeregt auf dem Teppichboden und hörte dem Moderator zu! Kennt ihr das auch noch alle? Jetzt bin ich 59 Jahre alt, aber dieser Song wirft mich in meine Jugend zurück...! Ach, war das toll - wo ist die Zeit nur geblieben?
Ist schon faszinierend, dass ich mich jetzt wie meine Großeltern anhöre! 😂
Kassettenrecorder kenne ich auch noch. War ne geile Zeit, wenn das Band gerissen ist schnell mit Tesa "gerettet".

Toppop mag weer terug komen op de televisie als het aan mij ligt
Denk er wel aan: het zal er van afhangen of de muziek die ze er nu zouden laten horen, je nog steeds bevalt. Zelf zou ik dan het liefste zien dat ze er aandacht gaan besteden aan bands die momenteel via moderne kanalen als TH-cam en Myspace hun fans proberen te bereiken, en nagenoeg door radio en tv worden genegeerd. Vaak zit daar nog steeds erg interessante muziek tussen: ik noem bijvoorbeeld The Lemon Twigs. Claypool Lennon Delirium en een plaatselijke band uit het zuiden waarvan ik de gitarist ken: The Failed Hipsters. Dikke aanraders.

Paar voordelen zijn dat je met een keuzeknop verschillende beroemde gitaargeluiden uit dezelfde versterker kunt halen: van de oergrom van Black Sabbath via jangle-geluiden van Byrds en Beatles, en galmende sustain van vroege Genesis, tot en met de scheur van Brian May. Ik kan wel zeggen dat ik me hiermee een gelukkige amateurmuzikant voel.
