Ryan, I am unironically so happy you made this video. Hans has designed most of my all time favorite LEGO Star Wars sets. The marketing for the gunship (not the fault of Hans but rather the marketing team) and minifig controversy always angered me because it really undermined the work that went into the actual build. He deserves every bit of praise!!
Hans really is a great designer and gave our community so much. His one oopsy in the Gunship was unfortunate but is most likely more so the marketing’s fault (btw Hans himself is a good sport and very self aware of this if you look into his brickset notes).
While that was the marketing teams fault and even the people who edited the video not noticing the mistake, any somewhat knowledgeable star wars fan would know that it was wrong.
Of course i did but i do not follow hans and i thought that maybe he did not bring it up because everyone else already knew but i did not so that is why.
Of course i did but i do not follow hans and i thought that maybe he did not bring it up because everyone else already knew but i did not so that is why.
It's interesting how some people give the set designers a hard time for the minifigures, when in reality, it is actually a whole other design branch of LEGO Star Wars.
Hans is a legend in the Lego community, and this video proves it. He will never be forgotten, he’s given us meme worthy quotes, an interview with Ryan, and many great sets; he will me missed. RIP Hans 2015-2023 May the Gonks live on ❤❤❤
Even though every time I think about Hans I think about the whole gunship thing, he really designed some great sets. May he rest in peace as a great Lego designer Rip Hans 2015-2023
I was surprised to learn he only designed 28 sets, I feel like hes been around longer than 2015. That man has talent to manage budgets, part counts, part colours and the corporate greed of Lego, while producing so many banger sets.
The gonk droids are a highlight of the advent calendars for me. I even went back and put together the gonks from advent calendar's before I started getting them. The inclusion of a gonk in the Tie Bomber was genuinely a factor in my decision to buy the set. I love gonks.
The UCS falcon will always be my favorite set. It’s an amazing rendition with a great build process. I know it’s cliche to say, but always wanting the original as a kid, now owning them side by side shows what an improvement was made.
Great video! Minor correction, but Vadar Castle was tied to the VR experience Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire (Not Vader Immortal). This was a location based experience like a theme park ride. This was the first media to feature the Imperial Transport Pilot. 🤓
I find it really amusing that so many people are commenting that they have half or more of these sets while I have none 😂 However, from this I learned that of the 3 advent calendars I have, Hans designed the 2 Star Wars ones and he absolutely nailed them! Almost all of them are great micro builds or minifigures with no useless weapon racks or random targets.
Some really iconic sets on this list. Gotta appreciate some of those super clean vehicle designs especially. I don't buy a lot of UCS sets but the Venator and UCS Slave 1 are at the top of my list for future sets I would like to pick up.
100% I don’t understand why he has put the venator at such a low spot, just because it’s from the clone wars, I prefer the red version of the venator but I have the venator and love it so much, some of these Lego creators critique these sets too much when they are great.
Best box art with the UCS Falcon too. I know you personally hate the UCS Gunship because he slipped up but man the build is so good. He can't hurt you anymore.
First and most important is Thank you Hans for evolving the Star Wars theme to what it is now. Second Thank you Sir (Ryan) for making a tribute to Hans’ career history with LEGO. And finally my GOAT set is THÉ UCS Millennium Falcon 🙌🏻. Your top 10 is solid 👌🏻, but I just can’t see any set shakin’ the Falcon outta first place.😅
Seems like I gotta thank Hans for being such an amazing designer/builder. I only own 3 lego builds. My first was the Slave I, then I got the A wing, and I just got the Millennium Falcon for Christmas!
The UCS Republic Gunship is the top here if we are just looking at the design. It looks amazing and the build is so good. Bad marketing and a lack of mini figs can't take away from that.
He deservea a lot of credit for his work. Big thanks to him! I would say that the biggest problems with lego comes from them cheaping out on figures and quality, not from the designers. They usualy do a great job. Good to see that you give him credit, not just rant on him 😂
I’m bummed I missed out on cloud city. I do think the A Wing is an incredible set. I plan on getting the UCS Falcon some time this year myself as I don’t want to miss out on it. Is it true that they are retiring this one at the end of the year? Great list. He was involved in quite a few good ones for sure.
I love the UCS Gunship even though the mini-figs are terrible. I filled mine with clones. It's one of the sturdiest lego sets for its size and it was an amazingly fun build.
i mean its a meme but when you ignore the figs and the whole controversy, the gunship is just a masterpiece of a set, in its beauty unlike anything I've ever seen before its soo good. but yeah other than that, this video's ranking is well justified except for the ventator i think should've been higher
He has disigned some of my favorite lego sets i own but i still cant get passed the "original trilogy" tragedy... the tragedy of UCS gunship the wise...
Honestly I understand some of the valid criticisms of the p2 Rex but as someone who owns it (granted I added a waistcape on) the rest of the figure is honestly near perfect and it holds up next to many custom clones I have in terms of detail and crispness. imo way too overheated, yes lego should have included a waistcape but other than that any complaints are just nitpicks that get blown out of proportion, just my take though
I know I probably hold an unpopular opinion, but I think when he said “Original Trilogy” he meant the trilogy that takes place first. I doubt English is his first language and Star Wars’ release order makes it confusing for a lot of people. Maybe I’m making excuses but it seems like a normal thing for a foreign man to say accidentally
He also said a Clone Commander doubles as a pilot which certainly wasn’t lost in translation. Either way this video isn’t about that, that topic has been covered.
The best thing about all of those sets, is that they're all from the original trilogy. Jokes aside, good luck Hans on working on Icons! You will always be remembered by the Lego Star Wars community.
I posses half of this sets, honestly I don't know exactly which is my favorite one, but the firs order star destroyer, the Vader Castle and krennic's shuttle are on the podium, all of them are so gorgeous! Very thanks Hans❤, and very thanks Rayan, you're always the best!!💪🏻
They just need new Minifigure people. The builds at this point (with few exceptions) are excellent. The theme is suffering on the Minifigure front more than anything.
The Slave 1 was my first UCS Star Wars set and is probably my second favorite. The Millennium Falcon for me is my number one set and thus my favorite Hans designed set. You mentioned Hans influenced having a Gonk droid included with the TIE bomber. How much influence do you think designers have on the minifigures included in a set?
Honestly, given that english is not his first language, I'm willing to forgive the gunship gaffe. Also - look at all the fantastic home run sets he designed, especially the UCS ones. Icons just got a great designer. Hopefully whoever's brought up/in to replace him brings the same attention to detail that the UCS falcon and Slave I had.
RYAN YOU'RE A MADMAN haha! Jokes aside, Hans was definitely one of their best designers, so many great sets. Unfortunately the way he spoke to fans wasn't tolerable to nobody!
Hans is a top G. He knows the disney trilogy sucks and called the prequels the other original trilogy. And I agree with him. In all seriousness - awesome designer that gave us some of the best sw sets. Especially in the ucs line.
Thumbnail coming soon. Only early viewers will know what it was. 😂
Yes at first I'd didn't know it was you
The gonk droids, Ngl like the thumbnail id say keep it!
I was so confused you made me think he died
Early squad wya
Gotta be one of my fav thumbnails wouldn't even mind it being left 😂
Love the video :)

Unironically, the UCS Gunship is definitely one of the best ships despite the minifigs
The republic gunship is a set for the original trilogy too that’s that cool too we need more of those
should be buying a set for the set not the figs
@@thesmallchild3565Don't remember the gunship being in the original trilogy
Yeah. What makes the set bad is how they handled it

His note on the 2022 advent calendar: "Also, the popular clone commander is back to fly the Republic Gunship again!"
@@andrewstrange6777well thats a good comment xD glad they're chill about all that 😅

@@thegreatpiginthesky3904 I mean he definitely knows it was wrong, he misspoke and the marketing team didn’t catch it during the editing process.
Hans designed the Resistance Transport!? Peak, all time Lego designer, he will be missed
Is he dead.?
no, he's just not on the lego star wars team anymore

I’ve only known Hans for his legendary mess up but I never realized that he designed all these GREAT SETS! Loved the video!
It's interesting how some people give the set designers a hard time for the minifigures, when in reality, it is actually a whole other design branch of LEGO Star Wars.
Hans in his prime was unstoppable, thanks for all the great moments!

RIP Hans 2015-2023
May the Gonks live on ❤❤❤
I like this new format, thanks Ryan
the republic gunship is uhh a set from the original trilogy 🔥
Definitely well deserved praise. He is an artist!
Well, even though he is moving on, I think he went out with a bang with the UCS Venator. Thank you for your service sir.

The first order Star destroyer is honestly one of my favorite sets, especially when you fill out the interior with figs
Was looking 4 this comment it’s so underrated

What a great celebration for just lego Star Wars and Lego in general he really has made some ICONic sets for the community
Got to respect Ryan for giving Hans his flowers 🔥.

He made 2 of my favorite Star Wars sets in the slave one and Krennics Shuttle. Truly amazing sets only few can compare to those in my opinion
To date, the UCS A-Wing is one of my all time favorite sets. Totally agree with that being top 5! Definitely underrated.
Glad to see another Top 10 video
This is truly the Mandr video of all time

He is by far my favorite lego designer
Ask Mandr: do you think they will ever make death troopers again or an imperial battle pack? That would very cool in my opinion.
It feels like a random video but its amazing! Keep it up ur the best content creator in the lego starwars community. 👍👍👍
no ucs gunship is a crime! But fantastic designs over the years from Hans
By far the best mandr video I've ever almost watched
Seems like I gotta thank Hans for being such an amazing designer/builder.
I only own 3 lego builds.
My first was the Slave I, then I got the A wing, and I just got the Millennium Falcon for Christmas!
Now this is a creative video idea for LSW! Great list and idea Ryan to spin this into something positive
I hope they continue to put these christmassy GONK Droids in the advent calenders 😍
I started collecting them! 😂
Slave 1 was my first ucs set. It will always be my fav Lego Star Wars set
The UCS Republic Gunship is the top here if we are just looking at the design. It looks amazing and the build is so good. Bad marketing and a lack of mini figs can't take away from that.
Bro did Hans dirty.
But this is now my favorite video of all time.
Great video I'd like seeing more of these around other designers.
Never knew that some of my favorite sets were made by him
Memes, goofs and jokes aside, he makes really astonishing models and is a very talented man. Props to Hans!
I got the falcon a week ago and dont regret it at all. it looks fantastic with the slave 1 and razor crest
Am I the only one that loves the fact that the UCS venator is a clone wars version instead of ep. 3?

Hey Ryan - you have impeccable taste and my jaw always drops whenever I see all the beautiful sets you review and rank. Thanks as always.
I think the Scythe actually came in underrated, one of my favorite LEGO playscale ships for sure. But the top three were pretty obvious

R.I.P Hans. The Venator is so beautiful. Thank you.
The best thing about all of those sets, is that they're all from the original trilogy.

Oh, I read this as “design SECRETS” from Hans… I was excited for some inside knowledge.

Love this video from Ryan. you can tell he loves lego designs.
He needs to take the rest of the design team except Jens with him. The whole LSW team needs a revamp!
They just need new Minifigure people. The builds at this point (with few exceptions) are excellent. The theme is suffering on the Minifigure front more than anything.
D droid gunship from episode 3 looks soo cool same thing with the D tie fighter drop bommer.
bruh i missed out on the transport scythe and now i dont know when im gonna have an oppurtunity to get it since its retired

As someone’s who’s primarily a Lego Star Wars fan, this makes me sad. As someone who’s also super into Lego icons im hyped
