This is great high level barbering content, but still articulated for the masses! 💪🏾

I met Will in 2018. At his shop off Cobb parkway. Good guy.

Love these Gem talks. I’m opening a salon/barbershop in September. I have been in a suite since 7/15/2020. Business has been amazing and I’ve grown from a standard suite paying $355/wk to a two chair suite with only me in it for $573/wk. I miss the team aspect of the industry and I want to scale. I’ve decided I’ll lead a commission model. I am not a fan of booth rent. The one thing no one is mentioning is there is are your associates W-2 or 1099? If They are W-2, you have to pay them a guarantee of the state’s minimum wage. If they are 1099, they receive no guarantee. Is this correct? I’m in Maryland, but it seems the guarantee is a Federal and State thing.

    70-80% commission is MASSIVE
You will never see that amount in my city. Any barber or stylist getting that amount of commission should be extremely grateful. Bossio has a massive brand and it is extremely difficult to create a shop like that, why haven’t all your barbers left and made their own shop with 7+ stores? Cause it’s hard as hell man. The amount of hard work, advertising, charisma, and good luck, all goes into that. Commission is not bad AT ALL for most barbers especially at 70-80%.
Let’s do the math if you made 15k a month at 80% commission you keep 12k
If you rented out a suite you would make like 12.5-13k maybe less depending on rent and supplies and advertising!
    Come on Chris…😂

This is exactly the dilemma I have been dealing with, I recently went up to charging one haircut (50$) a day for booth rent and now I lost 50% of my barbers.
there is a huge misconception about the difference between booth renters and commission.
Booth renters should be in charge of building their own clientele.

I went to a suite Jan. 2024 with the idea of proving lead generation concepts to then expand 2-4 years from now into a barbershop. Also, building my financials to then ask for a business loan to open a barbershop in that 2-4 yr range. I understand Will’s take on barbers who go to suites but I urge you to consider changing your mind on this as well. With the right mindset, I believe the suite model makes sense.

I agree with a lot that was said but one thing I don’t like owners act like barbers that work for them are benefiting from them which is true but the owners benefit too because imagine if they had nobody to work for there business especially if ur short staff

The question I have is why he switched it up after explicitly stating in his old video he did not agree with commission model because he himself would never work in a shop like that and then went on to proclaim it was a matter of “integrity” ,the exact word he used. So the integrity no longer matters ? Money is usually the culprit smh
