This song has portrayed the love story of "Sohni and Mahiwaal" just like Romeo and Julie, as you poined it is written beautifully to tell us their storys end and also give a message which gott perfectly, the story has a tragic end, Sohni the girl and Mahiwal the boy true lovers and that time and that night river was on flood but Sohni decided to meet his lover living other side of the river but her sister in law changed Gharah (clay pot) that night with unbacked clay pot and due to this Sohni drowned in the middle of the river and Mahiwal also jumped into river to save her but he also died. I love Noori band they are both brothers and that was thir mothe playing Sagar Veena an instrument invented by her father and only she and few other can play, would love to see you react to more of their songs i recommend another one Aik Alif by Noori and Sain Zahoor and Hor Vi Neevan Ho from Coke Studio earlier seasons produced by original creator of Coke Studios Rohail Hayat

The song is in three parts,
first: (Male singer) The clay pot warning Sohni to not take the journey across the river.
second: (Female singer) Sohni replying to the clay pot and is adamant on taking the journey anyway even if its at the cost of her life.
third: (Male singer): voice of hope which is motivating Sohni to take the journey. Its manifested by Sohni herself because of her true love for Mahiwal.

6:35 I can't remember if I've already told you this since I've mentioned it on quite a few other channels but this instrument is the 'sagar veena' a Pakistani plucked string instrument and the woman playing it is the mother of the two lead male singers. It's wonderful.
Oh that elec guitar solo you were bopping your head too was also one of my fav parts 👩‍🎤

That hollowed instrument he's playing is a clay pot(we call it Gharya in Urdu\Punjabi which the singers were saying on repeat) used in rural areas in Pakistan to keep the water cool in extremely hot season(which is most of the year in Pakistan). It makes very interesting sound that a lot of folk artists use. Since this clay pot is hollowed woman and children also use it to cross the river, they'd use this clay pot like you would use life jacket these days.
This song is based on really old folk lore where the woman was so desperate to see her lover she tried to cross the river in high tides using the clay pot and drowned in the process. This folk lore has been passed down from one generation to another for hundreds of years and still part of our collective memory.

The instrument youre talking about the is a folk instrument and the musician is the last known person who plays it.
Also fun fact, she is the mother of the lead male singers Ali Noor and Ali Hamza.
She is Ma’am Noor Zehra Kazim and she is a legend.

The instrument is called sagar veena and the instrument is played by her norri brother mom herself.
She is the only person in the world who knows how to play that as they invented that instrument themselves

Claypot which is baked in heat becomes strong and is able to float in water. Sohni used to swim across the river with the help of a ghara (as a floating device) to meet her lover. But on this fateful night her sister in law replaced the baked pot with a kacha ghara (unbaked claypot) which was unstable and it melted away in the water. This song is a dialogue between Sohni and this kacha ghara.

    loved your reaction!
This is a folk lore of Chenab river in Punjab, also known as river of love, in this tale Sohni is trying to get his lover Mahiwal(previously a rich merchant, who became buffalo herder in sohni's love), he is across the river, using a claypot She put aside a solid pot a day before she was planning to do it but some one replaced it with weak one, to float over the water but in the attempt the pot break mid stream and she drowned, Mahiwal at that moment saw Sohni and also jumped into river attempting to save her but also drowned. They both died yet their story became eternal! There is a also a mystic side to this song, i.e a person trying to get close to GOd.
at 6:30 that was Sagar weena instrument, that lady is the lead singers mother and she is only couple few people in the world who can play Sagar weena.
2:40 it is indeed a Clay pot , it is used to carry water, also can be played as it is hollow and makes beautiful sound.

The lyrics of the song are an depiction of a conversation between the clay pot and Sohni the girl who would bake the clay pot and use it as a mean of transportation to take her across the river at night to meet her lover who lived there.
The clay pot is warning her to not take the journey that one un-fateful night when Sohni's sister in law found out about Sohni's plans and she replaced her clay pot with an unbaked one so to prevent her from sneaking off to meet her lover in the night but Sohni decided to go any way and ended up drowning and her lover Mahiwaal also jumped into the river after her but also drowned. Its a folk tale based on a true story. There is a mausoleum build in the middle of the Chenab river in Pakistan to honour their love.

The story is she didn’t know how to swim and used clay pot as her prop to stay afloat. The villain of story switched the baked clay pitcher with unbaked one that perished in river and she drowned.

The 'girl' is yourself, her beloved is God, clay-pot is your belief in God, river is this world and heavy tides in the river are the distractions. So the concept is that if ones belief is strong then you can cross the river and your clay pot won't break in the river. But if you love worldly lustful distractions then the clay pot will break and you can't reach to your God. Of course in the story she died because her jealous cousin changes the pot with a half baked one. So all poets through the centuries have been singing that we should watch for our pot before heading to the river

Sir, greetings from Pakistan. Wonderful reaction to a great song. I loved it. Excellent observations and conclusion too.
Sir, yourself is correct in identifying the "Jug-type" instrument as "Clay pot", which is named as "Gharriya" in our language. It's use in this song also has a significance as explained in the following lines. The other instrument played by the graceful gey-haired lady is called "Sagar Veena". It's reported that this instrument was invented by her father and at the moment she is the only one in the World who knows how to play that instrument. Incidentally, she is the mother of both male singers in the song from a very popular band "Noori". The other female singer is from India who collaborated brilliantly on this song. "Paar Channa De" means Across the river Chenab.
Sir, the song is based on a tragic folktale of two passionate lovers "Sohni-Mahiwal". There was a village on the banks of the River "Chenab" in which a very famous potter used to live. The girl named "Sohni", which means beautiful was his daughter. All the pots were well baked and quite solid. Sohni used to help her father in making the pots. One day a trader from some other land came to buy the pots and while finalizing a deal with her father, he saw Sohni and immediately fell in love. The trader started to regularly visit the shop on one pretext or the other just to see Sohni. It so happened that Sohni's father hired the trader as a Water buffalo herder and thus his name "Mahiwal", which means Buffalo man. Both started seeing each other and fell in love. In those days, such kind of love was forbidden in that village. In the meantime, the potter arranged marriage of his daughter with another potter but the love between Sohni and Mahiwal had grown strong. Sohni's husband was a pottery merchant and therefore had to move out of village frequently for days for his work. Sohni started to use the baked clay pot to swim across the river to the other side to be with Mahiwal. She didn't know how to swim but used to cling on to the pot. One night Sohni's Sister-in-law saw her and being jealous of her replaced the baked pot with unbaked one which was extremely weak. The next night when she took the pot for her journey, the pot started to behave differently and began to sink after sometime right in the middle of the river. She cried out for Mahiwal who on hearing her screams / cries jumped into the river but the waves were so strong that day and both of them drowned in the river while holding each other hands.
So, the song is beautifully written and sung depicting the time when it's the last moments of Sohni just before she along with Mahiwal drowned. Sir, a heartbreaking tale indeed. Sohni-Mahiwal is one of the most famous tales of our region just like Romeo and Juliet. This tale is from a city called Gujrat in Pakistan, which is still a city here in Pakistan on the banks of River Chenab.
Sir, amazing reaction and best wishes for your channel.
    Regards
