Comment any questions you have about ShareX! Did you know you don't even need to have it as an "open" window for it to work? Just as long as it's running in the background, you can use your hotkeys to take screenshots that auto-save. Lifesaver.

Had I come across this a week ago, I could have saved the US$100 that I spent for a nice screen capture with audio to mp4 "pro" app. It's nice and does what I want but this app you have introduced me to is free and in some ways I already can see even more. Including the animated GIF creator, the variable delay to capture start, and of course the whole automatic uploading (which I don't need currently).

I went to Google and typed open source screen recorder. It recommended share X, then I took share X and put it in TH-cam. Your video came up. I am downloading share X when I get home. I am sold

Thank you for all. I finally found a way to put my warm up text into the lesson. I make a word document with the script I want them to use. I open it and use sharex to capture that screen on my laptop display. Then I crop that sharex capture to the size I want and save that copy. Then I "add a blank page" into the it lesson. Then on that page, I select and add the png image I saved. I have used this 20 times this week and it saves typing the scripts over and over into the lesson. Thank you for your assistance in all things iT.

I promise you that you can just follow my steps to set it up and it's super easy! Even if you just use the "PRT-SCRN" (print screen button) with the program installed, it'll automatically save your screenshots in dated folders. Easy-peasy!

For Mac users:
• Screen Capture desktop (Like Window's Print Screen) - Command Shift 3
• Screen Capture a region - Command Shift 4 - Hold left click, then draw a box with your cursor
• Screen Capture a region - Command Shift 5 - Drag and resize the box then press return
• Screen Record - Command Shift 5
• Screen Capture the window you are hovering over, even if there is a window layered on top it won't mask anything out - Command Shift 4, then Spacebar
The screenshots automatically go to your desktop!

I initially couldn't record sound with with video capture but eventually found a way to set sound source to microphone. Can also set other hotkeys e.g. to open main window or scrolling window capture. Great free program. Thanks for inspiring me to give it another try.

Most of what you are surprised about can be done WITHIN WINDOWS WITHOUT INSTALLING ANY PROGRAMS, it is called xbox wind+shift+G then snip and snip and sketch wind+shift+s your program just offer more options and flexibility on set ups, then you can change the path to wherever you want, could be desktop and distribute at your needs, change file name etc.

I,ve been using snagit screemshot and they gotten bad now when I take a screenshot and save as it goes straight my GIMP my photo shop. This shareX has been amazing so far I just downloaded it today, Didn't like it at first but once I started tp play around with it I go WOW. I decided to start watching tutorials Your the first one. MY God it records your voice while your recording the screen there's another WOW! thank you

You probably know this by now but 7:35 instead of having it open the folder every time you hotkey.
Just go into application settings and change the Paths to where ever you want.
Having it open the folder each time can be annoying whilst in full screen.

@@JoeMilneEnglish One other as well in the Task Menu, disabling Play sound after capture is made, Play sound after task is completed and After task is completed: Show nothing (removes preview box lower right of the screen and all the sounds which I imagine will become repetitive). I love you for this, I was using Gyazo a hour ago, thanks for making this video, it really helped with the initial confusion lol.

Thanks for your comment, Simona. I think you might be best using OBS Studio as ShareX only allows one sound input, so you won't be able to get sound from both your microphone input and desktop output.

The problem with Share X is that it only allows you to record from one audio source. You can either record the audio coming from your system (example: a TH-cam video that's playing) or you can record the audio going into your microphone(you talking). It doesn't allow you to do both. Have you found a way to record both audio sources at the same time using ShareX? I know that OBS allows you to.
I don't use ShareX to record my screen, GeForce or OBS is best for that.
you want to separate all your audio channel Of your desktop and softwares :
use Voicemeter Banana free version (not demo)
Its is actualy use by a lot of creator on twitch and youtube
Take and redirect audio(input or output) from wherever you want to whereever you want

AWESOME tutorial, BUT.....I could use further INSIGHT PLEASE :) I just completed your tutorial WHICH was SUPERB. Sadly though, I am using SHAREX for screen recording YT videos of all different sorts of things WHILE adding my commentary as an OVERLAY. THE ISSUE: When using ShareX to screen record these videos I notice in playback that the content I captured is VERY CHOPPY and the voices don't match up with the mouths and what not......Any recommendations would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! THANKS MATE!

I don't think ShareX records sound you should check out OBS Studio, I have videos on that. 😊

You can upload images/files automatically to hosting sites like imgur.com - is that what you mean? I'm not 100% sure what you mean, if you email me a screenshot to itutorjoe@gmail.com I might be able to help.
ShareX Scrooling capture unfortunately not working! Scrolls entire page but only creates and image for the very top!???🤔🤔🤔
I think I had this issue but there's a workaround, I can't quite remember but try fiddling with settings.
Thank you Joe for your video. I have just downloaded Sharex as a replacement for Jing (as of 2020) will no longer capture - only black screen. Am experiencing the same black screen capture with ShareX Region. Is ShareX still working for you?

I really recommend recording your screen with OBS, it's a free software. I have a video from scratch for it. Go to my channel and find the OBS tutorial to see how. 😊

hey joe, i tried recording for 1hr 30 mins, but when i stopped and checked it on my file computer and tried playing the windows media player i got this msg *Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.* can u help? :((
What is the file format? It might be .mkv. If six you can play it through VLC media player (quick and easy download), or change your settings in OBS Studio to make sure the recorded format is .mp4, not .mkv.
Scrolling capture doesn't really work, i.e. it only captures a small part of the scrolled area, even though it looks like it scrolls nicely from top to bottom, the resulting image is basically the same as regular screenshot.
You know, it used to work perfectly for me up until recently too. You have to play around with the scrolling capture settings, I think. I'll have a play with it later and see if I can provide a fix for you.
