This is interesting, but I always use vinegar and baking soda as wash load additives for the clothes. The vinegar softens--no need for dryer sheets. And the baking soda deionizes, removes odors

My washer was making a grinding sound when it spun. I found if you take the dasher off the bottom and in the there may white residue on the ring in the middle , you may need to scrape it off so the dasher can run freely again. You ought se a shiny ring. I think the water kind of calcifyies on it.
